Chapter 46 - Storage ring

"There are plenty of things I can teach you about magic. I'll write a paper later and give it to you so that you can understand magic in detail." —Victor

"It's gonna be much better than anything you'd find anywhere in the continent, I assure you." —Victor

"Now for the important part..." —Victor

Victor took out a ring and placed it onto the map.

"Take this and follow me. I'll teach you how to safely remove instability from your body while still keeping it in a useful state." —Victor

Following Victor out of the room, Jack looked at his back and drifted in thought as they walked.

Victor is surprisingly a chatterbox... He also seems to know a lot about magic and instability. If I keep interacting with him like this, I may be able to learn a lot.

I may also be able to rise up socially as well.

The two of them eventually entered a room that looked like a laboratory; it was messy with papers that had writings everywhere.

Victor took out a paper and a crayon and placed it on a table that was clear and gestured to Jack to come closer.

"First part about using instability safely is understanding that while it can accomplish anything, it has a certain degree of randomness while using it." —Victor

"To mitigate this, one needs to provide a narrow degree of freedom while using it as well as be precise with what you want. Instability is not magic." —Victor

"Does this tie to the 99% of the work being done by this Creator?" —Jack

"Yes, and also you need to know that the Creator is less a deity in the traditional sense and more like a universal law. There is no way for you to get the favor of 'It'; at most you'd be able to amuse an Avatar of The Creator." —Victor

"I'll explain more about this in the paper I will give you." —Victor

Victor then took the paper and drew a circle on the paper; underneath, he wrote a few statements.

'All the stated effects will apply to the ring contained within this circle that is drawn on this paper and only the ring.'

Below it, slightly offset, the next statement was:

'Let all instability given be moved and stored inside the ring. Let it be contained inside it without it moving outside without the wearer's consent.'

'The ring will record the current state and move back towards it when the state is changed from it.'

'The ring will always be able to store more instability while ensuring that it will remain below Containment Space threshold.'

'This ring will deem the one that first inserted instability inside of it as its owner.'

'The ring will always find its way back to the owner by the usage of coincidences and by slightly nudging the decision making of any creatures that may come in contact with it.'

Victor lifted the paper and looked at it before saying, "Hmm... This is a good draft, but it still needs refinement. Here, read it and say if you have any suggestions to making this better."

"Alright." —Jack

With both Jack and Victor working towards this, they both eventually came up with the final version of the statements.

'All stated effects apply only to the ring contained within the defined boundary and do not extend beyond it.'

'All instability directed into the ring will be relocated into its internal structure and remain contained within it.'

'Instability contained within the ring will not propagate outside of it unless explicitly permitted by the owner.'

'The ring will maintain a defined stable state and return to it when deviations occur.'

'The ring is defined to re-establish physical proximity to its owner within a 3-meter spatial distance when separation occurs, by manifesting outcomes that result in its return without causing direct physical harm to the owner.'

Jack looked at the statements and asked, "Will this really work? Even if it's magic, it feels way too... unrestrained."

"Tsk! Tsk! Remember this, Instability is not a form of Contained Energy like Mana. It is unstable reality being stabilized to your desire." —Victor

"It doesn't need to be realistic; it needs to be well defined, and the world will do the rest." —Victor

"Then if it's like this, then why doesn't everybody use it?" —Jack

Victor rubbed his eyes while exhaling.

"...I'll explain this in the paper I'll give you later. It's hard to explain it without going into detail." —Victor

"Now just begin moving the instability into the paper and think or speak, 'Let everything written on this paper come true.'" —Victor
