"Oh, forgive me," Sairis said. "I did not realise you had exhausted all your other options before murdering my entire family. That makes it much more reasonable."
Her jaw tightened. "We negotiated with your father for two years," Greta said. "Two years of offers. Two years of meetings and terms and proposals that he rejected every single time without a second thought. He did not even consider them."
Her voice rose slightly. "He sat across from me and dismissed everything I put in front of him like I was a child asking for something that was never mine to ask for." She added.
"Because it was never yours to ask for," Sairis said.
"We were losing everything," she said. "Do you understand what that means? Shipment after shipment gone before it reached the border. Our resources draining season after season with nothing to show for it. We were not asking him to give it away for nothing. We offered fair payment. More than fair." Greta said.
