Sairis's POV

Greta had known exactly who he was and had said nothing and stood in the same palace corridors and attended the same dinners and watched him exist in the place she had built on top of his family's grave, and she had said absolutely nothing.

He felt sick. "And you took no action," Sairis said. It came out flat. Not quite a question.

She scoffed. The sound was short and sharp. "What do you think?" Greta said. "That I would walk up to the king and report that a Locke had survived? That one of the traitor family was alive and living in his palace?"

She shook her head. "Markus already regretted what had happened. I could see it in him. That guilt had been sitting on him for years, eating away at him quietly." Greta added.

Her voice hardened. "I was not about to hand him a reason to make peace with it. To correct what had been done. To bring the Locke name back into respectability and undo everything I had worked to put in place."

Sairis said nothing.
