Sairis's POV
"He is the regent," Ardent continued quietly. "He has more resources and more reach than almost anyone in this kingdom. If there is anyone who could make sure you are safe and looked after through something like this, it is the regent."
Sairis shook his head. "Just because he has the power and the resources does not mean I should take advantage of my friendship with him," he said. "That is not who I am."
Ardent looked at him. "There is a difference between taking advantage of someone and accepting help from someone who wants to give it," he said. "You know that."
Sairis said nothing. He shook his head slowly and looked down at his hands.
Asking Loreen for help was not a simple thing. It was not a matter of pride or stubbornness or not wanting to burden someone. Asking Loreen for help meant telling Loreen he was pregnant.
And the moment Loreen heard those words, he would know.
