Chapter 129 - Goods crossing the south border

Loreen's POV

"A lord came to see me past midnight because he could not obtain a permit for grain." Loreen said.

Recognition flickered across Huron's face before he could hide it.

Loreen noticed. His eyes narrowed slightly. "You know exactly who I am speaking about."

"Lord Thorn," Huron said carefully.

"You know his name."

Huron nodded slowly. "His office has contacted mine several times." He whispered.

"And yet the permit was never issued."

"There were delays."

Loreen stared at him. "Delays," he said quietly.

Huron sighed and pressed his fingers to his temple. "We had reason to suspect foul play from the Lord," he said. "And the review process was not yet complete."

Loreen smiled. He had his own suspicions about Lord Thorn. That was not the point. "The review process could not be completed," he said, "because your office was closed and nobody was there to complete it."
