Loreen's POV
Loreen was already seated when the door opened.
Two prison guards came in with Cedric between them, chains around his wrists, moving with the slow steps of a man who knew exactly where he was going and had no good options once he got there.
They dropped him into the chair across from Loreen without ceremony and stepped back.
Cedric looked worse than when Loreen had last seen him. Not mistreated, not visibly harmed, but worn down in the way of someone who had spent several days in a small room with nothing to do but think about what was coming.
His shoulders were rounded and his head was low and the confidence that had carried him through that late night office visit was entirely gone.
Loreen looked at him for a moment. Then he glanced at Kaid, who was standing in the corner with his arms crossed and his expression giving nothing away as usual.
Kaid read the look and turned to the guards. "You can leave," he said. "I will take it from here."
