Sairis's POV
Sairis stepped forward, reaching out to touch Loreen's arm lightly, a quiet attempt to ground him.
"I am fine," Sairis said under his breath. "Can we leave now? We were done here anyway."
Loreen exhaled slowly, his shoulders still tense. Then he gave a short nod. "Good. Not like this… whatever this is, was going to continue anyway. Let's go."
He turned at once and started toward the door. Sairis followed a step behind, his thoughts still racing, his senses sharp. That was when he noticed Marsden.
So the beta had been the one who had gasped earlier.
Just as Sairis turned to follow Loreen out, the queen began to laugh, making them both stop in their tracks.
Not softly. Not politely. It was sharp, almost mocking, cutting through the room with ease.
"I cannot believe this," she said between breaths. "Is happening right in front of me."
Her eyes locked onto Loreen as she continued. "The prince favors a male omega."
The words landed hard.
