Sairis's POV
Sairis turned when he noticed the door open slightly.
He had been sitting there for a while, watching Loreen by his father's bedside. They had not spoken to each other since they were left alone in the room.
Loreen had not explained why he had asked everyone else to leave. Everyone except him. The silence in the room had been heavy, but Sairis had chosen not to break it. Whatever Loreen was feeling, it felt like something that did not need words.
He really did not want to know what Loreen was going through.
That thought unsettled him more than he liked to admit.
He had just been told that his father was dying, and there was little to nothing the royal physician could do about it.
If Sairis remembered correctly, it had been the same way Loreen's mother had fallen sick too. Quiet at first, then suddenly everything collapsing before anyone could stop it.
