Lili walked forward to the massive walk-in closet, her eyes scanning the rows of silk, satin, and tailored fabrics.
She pulled out several options, determined to find the perfect look for tonight.
The first dress she tried on was far too simple—not at all the type she wanted for a special night out with Leo.
She quickly took it off and tried the next one, but it felt entirely too casual, looking more like something she would wear to a quiet afternoon tea than a formal evening date.
Frustrated, she reached for a third option, but this one was far too extreme, with dramatic cuts that didn't feel like her at all.
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, surrounded by rejected fabrics, Lili sighed in frustration.
"I don't know what to wear," she whispered to herself.
She kept trying on dress after dress, but nothing seemed right.
After an hour of pulling zippers, adjusting hems, and changing in and out of outfits, Lili was completely exhausted.
Overwhelmed by the choices, she finally gave up and collapsed onto the massive bed.
"I am so tired," Lili groaned, staring up at the ceiling as she lay there for a minute to catch her breath.
Just as she was resting, a soft, polite sound fractured the quiet of the bedroom.
Knock, knock.
"Ma'am, may I come in?" a respectful voice called out from the hallway.
Lili sat up slightly, smoothing down her hair. "Come in," she called out.
The door opened, and a maid stepped into the room carrying a collection of dresses that Lili had completely unexpected.
The maid smiled politely, presenting the garments.
"Ma'am, these are some dresses that Sir asked me to bring to you. You can choose a dress from here."
Excited, Lili jumped up from the bed and ran over to stand in front of the dresses. She quickly tried on two of them, and the second one was absolutely perfect. She loved it instantly.
Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she whispered, "Perfect."
The dress was a long, stunning red gown. It featured an elegant neckline that beautifully exposed her collarbone, and the bottom of the skirt flowed into a gorgeous, sweeping train.
Lili turned to the maid and asked, "How do I look?"
The maid smiled warmly and replied, "Gorgeous, Miss. You look absolutely stunning."
After the maid left the room, Lili realized it was getting late.
She quickly started getting ready, applying her makeup with practiced care before twisting her hair up into an elegant, polished bun.
Everything was ready now; Lili was completely prepared.
On the other side of the house, Leo came home and sat down on the living room sofa. He turned to his maid and told her to check if Lili was ready or not.
Suddenly, the soft sound of approaching footsteps caught his ears. He looked over toward the staircase, and his heart skipped a beat.
Lili was coming down.
Leo stared up at her, noticing her every step. He tracked the elegant flow of her red dress, the radiance of her face, the warmth in her eyes, and the sophisticated way her hair was pinned back, beautifully exposing her neck.
Completely mesmerized, he whispered under his breath,
"Gorgeous."
He simply couldn't take his eyes off her.
Leo stood up and stepped forward toward the stairs to take Lili's hand. He stood right there at the bottom, waiting for her.
As Lili reached the top of the staircase, she took a deep breath and began descending the steps.
She noticed that Leo had already come back, and she saw him suddenly look up, freeze, and then walk closer to the base of the stairs. For a long moment, both of them remained completely silent, simply staring into each other's eyes.
Finally breaking out of their trance, Leo reached out, offering her his hand. "Shall we go?" he asked gently.
Lili placed her hand in his and softly replied, "Yes." With that, Leo led Lili out of the house and toward the waiting car.
Leo opened the car door for her, and Lili slid inside, the crimson fabric of her gown pooling around her gracefully.
Leo then sat beside her on the leather seat and instructed the driver to start the car. The driver nodded, shifted into gear, and smoothly pulled away from the estate.
Turning to her in the quiet cabin, Leo told Lili that he was going to blindfold her.
Lili looked at him, surprised. "Why?" she asked.
Leo smiled softly, a warm light in his eyes. "It's a surprise," he replied.
He leaned in a bit closer, looking directly into her eyes. "Do you trust me?"
Lili didn't hesitate. "Yes," she whispered.
With her permission, Leo gently wrapped the blindfold over her eyes, tying it securely but softly behind her head.
For the rest of the journey, wrapped in the dark anticipation of the surprise, they simply held each other's hands,
their fingers tightly interlaced as the car carried them through the city night.
The drive was a little long.
Lili rested her head gently on Leo's shoulder while he sat quietly, looking out of the window.
The road took them through the heart of the city and then stretched out toward the outskirts, until the view beyond the glass gradually shifted from skyscrapers and streetlights to the dark, sweeping expanse of the seaside.
Because of the blindfold, Lili couldn't see any of it. She had no idea where they were going, and a thousand different thoughts raced through her mind as the steady hum of the engine carried them closer to their mysterious destination.
Leo opened his mobile phone and quickly typed out a text message to someone. After watching the screen for a moment, a gentle, satisfied smile appeared on his face as he read the reply.
Noticing the movement beside her, Lili asked, "What are you doing, Leo?"
"Nothing," Leo replied smoothly, closing his phone and slipping it back into his pocket.
Lili returned to sitting quietly in the seat, her heart fluttering with excitement as she wondered what kind of surprise Leo had prepared for her at the end of this dark journey.
