Chapter 141: Evil Orb—An Orb Tainted by the Breath of an Evil God.
....
"Ah, much better."
Seito narrowed his eyes, leaning back lazily into his throne. He scanned the Executives before his gaze finally settled on the Principal.
"Chairwoman, remember to recruit more people for the guild. Let's open up about 100,000 slots."
Previously, players had helped build the city just for a chance to join the Fatui. Now that he was setting a 100,000-member quota, it would surely drive them into a frenzy.
"I understand," Minami Kotori nodded.
Seito let out a yawn and stood up. "Let's go. To the 51st floor."
The lower floors could no longer satisfy their leveling needs; only the 51st floor would do. The others nodded in unison, and the group teleported away.
One hour later...
God's Domain, 51st Floor.
Inside a derelict skyscraper.
Seito looked at the scene before him, his brow furrowed. They had just arrived at the 51st floor and hadn't even gained much XP before stumbling into this building.
But... why was there an NPC here?
Everyone was stunned. How could there be an NPC on the 51st floor? It was an enigma.
Ahead of them, a little girl about five years old watched them timidly.
[Yue]
Level: 10
Yue was skin and bones, her complexion sallow and waxy. It looked like she hadn't had a full meal in a long time. Given the environment, it was a miracle she was still alive. Her large eyes were filled with curiosity; this was the first time she had seen humans other than herself in a long while.
"Who... who are you?" Yue's voice trembled.
"Little sister," Seito crouched down, asking gently, "Why are you here? Where are your mommy and daddy?"
At the mention of her parents, Yue's eyes welled with tears. "They're... dead... They're all dead..."
The group exchanged glances and continued to ask her about what had happened. Yue didn't push them away and answered their questions one by one.
It turned out that while the 51st floor had no safe zones, humans did exist there.
However, they lived entirely underground. Since the Great War of the Ancient Gods, they had relied on technology to survive. But the device providing artificial sunlight to the underground habitat had failed. Many had ventured out to find parts to repair it, but they had underestimated the horrors of the monsters.
The monsters had tracked their scent back to their final refuge and slaughtered everyone. Yue was the only survivor to escape.
A heavy silence fell over the group.
"Seito-chan, let's take Yue away from the 51st floor," Haruno Yukinoshita said, reaching out to stroke the girl's matted hair, her maternal instincts kicking in.
"We can do that," Seito nodded. He had no intention of leaving a little girl to fend for herself here. In her current state, she would likely starve to death within days.
Hearing that they were taking her away, Yue's eyes filled with a mix of grievance and relief, and tears flowed uncontrollably. She was more than willing to go with them; humans were far more comforting than the monsters outside.
Skreeee—!!
Hiss!!
Suddenly, a piercing, insect-like screech erupted! Seito and the others whipped their heads toward the window. A massive insectoid creature was staring into the building, drooling at the sight of them. It was a Mini-Boss they had been staying alert for!
"Get into the Kamui Dimension, now!"
Seito's Dimensional Rubik's Cubes began to levitate around him as he gripped his straight-bladed katana. He used Kamui to instantly warp the Executives and Luo Xin into his personal space.
Whoosh!
Seito soared into the air!
"Dimensional Deconstruction!"
Twenty-seven cubes swarmed toward the Mini-Boss, launching a frenzied assault!
Boom!
Rumble!!
-1.28m
-1.49m
-1.16m
...
After a full rotation of attacks, Seito frowned. The Boss's defense was higher than he expected! Even though his Speed stat was now pushing ten million, he was only chipping away about a million HP per hit. Judging by its status, the Boss had a massive health pool.
Grimacing, he used Spatial Displacement to close the gap, hacking at the Boss with the Spatial Dragon Blade.
Boom!
-82.69m
-82.50m
-72.68m
...
The Dragon Blade dealt massive damage, but Seito noticed a terrifying trait: the higher his attack power, the higher the Boss's defense scaled! Fortunately, the raw damage of the Spatial Dragon Blade was high enough that he could eventually grind it down.
Half an hour later...
With a final thrust into the creature's core, the Boss finally collapsed. Its massive corpse hit the ground, making the entire building shudder.
[Congratulations! Level up! Current Level: 58]
[Gained 10,000 Free Attribute Points]
[Your "Spatial Dragon Blade" triggered its Set Effect: Gained 100 Divine Power!]
"One hundred Divine Power?!" Seito froze.
That was a massive reward! His eyes lit up as he looked at the Boss's corpse like it was a prime cut of wagyu.
"Wait, what's this?"
Among the loot, a glowing green orb caught his eye. He descended to the ground and picked it up.
[Evil Orb: This is an orb tainted by a wisp of an Evil God's breath. If the breath is absorbed directly, the user will explode and die!]
"This is..." Seito was baffled. An orb tainted by an Evil God? It was eerily similar to the reward he got from the first event. However, it seemed it couldn't be used directly.
He tucked it away. Regardless, this was a top-tier drop—anything from a Level 100+ Mini-Boss was a treasure.
