Chapter 114: Obtaining the Pet "Sun-Moon," A Devouring Quality Upgrade!

...

God's Domain, Floor 25.

Home of Pets.

Returning to this familiar floor, Seito headed toward Dr. Kant's previous location. After about five minutes, he spotted the ragged doctor standing in front of a dilapidated wooden shack.

Stepping up to him, Seito said, "Doctor, I'm here to turn in the quest."

"So soon?!" Dr. Kant was stunned, then burst into a wild, booming laugh. "Hahaha...! He's finally dead!"

As he laughed, his voice cracked into sobs. The Baron had slaughtered his entire family; now that his great vengeance was fulfilled, a massive weight had been lifted from his soul. Wiping his tears, Dr. Kant pulled out a pet egg and handed it to Seito.

"Adventurer, this is your reward."

[Congratulations to player "Sei" for completing the quest.]

[Obtained Reward: "Mysterious Pet Egg".]

[Mysterious Pet Egg (?): A pet egg found by Dr. Kant years ago. Despite a lifetime of research, he never discovered what creature lies inside—only that it contains immense power!]

[Usage: Just add a drop of blood.]

"Thank you." Seito accepted the egg. "What do you plan to do now?"

"Next?" Dr. Kant looked at the egg in Seito's hands. "I plan to continue my research. I am finally free of my shackles."

Seito nodded and bid him farewell. He headed to a local inn, rented a room, and bit his finger, letting a single drop of blood fall onto the shell.

Hummm—!

Crack! Crack!

The egg trembled violently. Fine cracks spider-webbed across the surface as shards of shell began to flake away. Seito watched intently until a tiny, milky-white head poked through.

"Meow~~"

"A... cat?" Seito was floored. He stared at the tiny kitten hatching from the egg, momentarily speechless. All that build-up for a "Mysterious Pet" and it was just a kitten?

Still, it had snow-white fur and an adorable face. If he gave this to Yukino Yukinoshita, she'd probably melt.

[Pet: Unnamed]

[Level: 1]

[HP: 100/100 | MP: 100/100]

[Quality: White (Devouring Upgrade)]

[Atk: 5 | Def: 5 | Mag: 5 | Spd: 5]

[Skill: Scratch]

[Devouring Upgrade: Possesses a unique talent for evolution. To upgrade current quality to "Green," pet must devour 100+ monsters of Level 10.]

"This talent!!!" Seito shouted in surprise when he saw the quality bar. This was broken! "Devouring Upgrade" meant this little kitten could potentially eat its way up to Golden quality—or even God-tier. This reward was a massive win!

Whoosh—!

The eggshells dissolved into white light, forming a Pet Ring that flew into Seito's hand. He slipped it onto his right middle finger.

"From now on, I'll call you Little Sun-Moon," Seito decided, cradling the kitten. The name was simple: Sun and Moon over the mountains and rivers, a vast legacy.

(T/N: Just so you know the cat name is Sun-Moon, he just add 'little'.)

"Meow~" Little Sun-Moon gave a tiny, milky cry and curled up in Seito's arms, falling fast asleep. Its fur was incredibly soft and carried a pleasant, faint fragrance. Seito recalled the pet into the ring and logged out.

The day had been incredibly productive: territory seized, pet obtained.

Seito's Bedroom.

Amou and Kanade had already left. As Seito pulled off his gaming helmet, he glanced at his right hand. Sure enough, the Pet Ring had manifested in reality. This meant Little Sun-Moon was inside. Exhausted, he closed his eyes and drifted off.

The next morning at 7:00 AM, Seito woke up and lounged for a few minutes before getting dressed. He walked out to the dining area to find Amou and Kanade already eating.

"You're up early today," Amou said, surprised.

"Yeah, I logged off right after turning in the quest last night," Seito replied, taking a seat.

Breakfast was a mix of traditional Japanese fare and deep-fried dough sticks (youtiao) with soy milk. Amou must have gone out to buy the latter; Seito used to take her to eat them all the time back in middle school. He took a bite of a dough stick—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Perfect.

"So, what kind of pet was in the egg?"

Kanade asked calmly. She had been there when they took the quest, so she was naturally curious.

Seito raised his right hand. "Little Sun-Moon, come out."

Whoosh—!

In a flash of light, a pure white kitten appeared before them. Its adorable appearance instantly captured Kanade's attention.

"Meow!" Little Sun-Moon chirped and leaped onto Seito's shoulder, perching there proudly.

Amou was utterly stunned. "What... what is that? It just appeared?" She hadn't expected the game's influence to be quite this literal yet. Seito took a moment to explain the situation to her.

"So," Amou said, still processing, "does this mean you're basically invincible in this world now?"

"Pretty much," Seito nodded.

"If game abilities are manifesting in reality, haven't the world governments noticed?"

Amou wondered. Surely if a country like Japan knew, the top player in God's Domain would be under a microscope. Yet, Seito seemed perfectly unbothered.

"I'm not sure," Seito shook his head. "Maybe the higher-ups know, maybe they don't. Either way, it doesn't really change what I'm doing."
