Chapter 6: The Living Classroom
The first day of the second semester didn't begin with a bell or a lecture hall. Instead, a massive holographic notification, powered by the Gold System Stone, appeared in the center of the campus: "All Freshmen and Year 2 Students: Report to the North Gate. Dress for a Jungle."
Professor Leo Heart stood at the edge of the Verdant Rift, a territory that hadn't existed seventy-two hours ago. Where there used to be a flat training field, there was now a vertical rainforest of glowing blue vines and trees that pulsed with a rhythmic, subterranean heartbeat.
The Lecture: The Myth of Control
As the three hundred students gathered, murmuring in a mix of excitement and fear, Leo stepped onto a floating root of a World-Tree Sapling. Beside him, the Origin-Grade Solar-Phoenix preened its golden feathers, its heat keeping the damp mountain mist at bay.
"Your first lesson isn't about biology," Leo's voice carried through the Sovereign's Link, reaching the back of the crowd without effort. "It's about Humility. For ten thousand years, you were taught that a Tamer is a master and a pet is a tool. That logic died with the Mist-Wall."
Leo pointed toward a Mirror-Coyote stalking through the brush. To the students' eyes, it looked like a Grade-B threat.
"Look closer," Leo commanded. "Activate your internal resonance. Don't look at its claws; look at its Source."
The Practical: Origin-Tracing
Leo walked toward the predator. It growled, its fur rippling like liquid silver. The students gasped, expecting a battle, but Leo simply sat on the ground.
"The Eye of Truth shows us that this coyote isn't aggressive," Leo explained, his eyes glowing gold. "It's Overloaded. The new mana from the Outer Lands is like a flood hitting a dry pipe. It's in pain because it doesn't know how to vent the excess energy."
Leo reached out. Instead of a binding spell, he used the Sovereign's Link to create a "Grounded Circuit." He touched the coyote's forehead, and a surge of violet sparks leaped from the beast into Leo, who channeled it harmlessly into the earth.
The coyote's eyes cleared. Its silver fur settled into a soft, glowing white. It nuzzled Leo's hand and sat down like a loyal hound.
"This is Origin-Breeding," Leo said, standing up. "You don't change the beast to fit your needs. You help the beast become the purest version of itself. Your assignment for the week: find one 'Overloaded' creature in this rift and stabilize its core. If you use a capture-ball, you fail the class."
The Challenge of the Fused World
Samuel and Marcus moved through the crowd, acting as Teaching Assistants. They handed out "Resonance Crystals" that Leo had tuned at the Heart Ranch.
"Professor!" a freshman from the Star-Sect called out. "What if the beast doesn't want to be stabilized? What if it belongs to the Maw?"
Leo's expression darkened. He looked deep into the rainforest, where the shadows seemed to move against the wind.
"Then you learn the second part of the curriculum," Leo said, his Solar-Phoenix letting out a warning cry. "The Maw doesn't breed life; it consumes it. If you encounter a shadow-seed, do not engage. Signal the Vanguard Guild immediately. This world is beautiful, but it is no longer safe."
The First Breakthrough
By the end of the afternoon, the rift was filled with the sounds of students attempting to "Sync" with the new environment.
Marcus watched as a previously timid Earth-student successfully calmed a Wind-Whisp using the techniques Leo had demonstrated. "They're learning faster than we did, Leo," Marcus noted, leaning on his World-Tree staff.
"They have to," Leo replied, his Eye of Truth catching a glimpse of a black, oily vine creeping up the trunk of a nearby tree. "The Maw's Seed is growing. This rift isn't just a classroom; it's a frontline. We're training an army of healers, Marcus. I just hope we have enough time."
As the class ended, Leo sat back on the root, watching the twin suns set. The Gold Stone at his neck felt heavy. The first lesson was over, but the exam—the one that would decide the fate of both worlds—was just beginning.
