"Noel, you're crazy," I shook my head, moving away from him. I slammed my back hard against the passenger door, just wanting some distance. "No. No way. We're not doing this again. I already told you no the first time, Noel! I am not going back there to be some... some trophy or whatever game you and your brothers are playing."
"Eli, please. Just listen to me for one second. Don't just say no," he pleaded. His voice cracked, rough and broken in a way I'd never heard before. He looked at me, and his eyes were burning so hot it actually made my chest ache.
He wouldn't let this go. It was the second time he was bringing up this crazy marriage idea, and the desperation on his face was terrifying.
He looked completely starved, like a man drowning who saw me as his only way to breathe."Why me, Noel?" I demanded, my voice kept shaking as I stared at him.
