Chapter 22 -  Every Day I Wake Up, I Get a Little Stronger

"BOOOOM—!!"

A violent explosion erupted in the sky.

The castle-like airship that Emperor Pilaf had painstakingly built could not withstand the terrifying impact.

It shattered instantly in midair, turning into a massive fireball and countless fragments.

Burning wreckage rained down like fiery meteors.

The little energy Master Roshi had just gathered instantly dispersed.

His eyes nearly popped out of his sockets again, and his jaw dropped so far it almost hit the ground.

You… you threw Demon King Piccolo's corpse… at the spaceship?!

Roshi felt like his brain could no longer process the absurd scene in front of him.

That move…

No one else could come up with something like that!

Since Piccolo's corpse had smashed directly into Piano, the tremendous impact broke every bone in his body instantly.

He died on the spot without even having time to scream.

Meanwhile, Pilaf, Mai, and Shu were thrown out of the exploding wreckage by the shockwave.

They crashed heavily onto the ground nearby.

The three of them were covered in soot and torn clothes.

They clung to each other, trembling in terror.

They were so frightened that they couldn't even cry.

Roshi forced himself to steady his weakened body and hurried over.

He stood before the three culprits with a face darker than a thunderstorm.

Seeing Roshi approach was like seeing the King of Hell.

The Pilaf trio hugged each other tightly and began bowing repeatedly, tears streaming down their faces.

"You three… were the ones who released Demon King Piccolo from the rice cooker seal, weren't you?" Roshi asked coldly.

His voice carried unquestionable authority.

"Th-this… this was just an accident… a huge misunderstanding…" Pilaf stuttered.

"You… you believe us… right?"

"Please forgive us! We'll never do it again!" Mai and Shu cried while bowing desperately.

Their foreheads were already red from hitting the ground.

"Where did you find the rice cooker that sealed Demon King Piccolo?" Roshi continued asking.

He needed confirmation.

"We… we found it by accident while diving… on the ocean floor…" Pilaf answered nervously.

"Th-that really was Demon King Piccolo?" Roshi asked again, still in disbelief.

He pointed toward the twisted green corpse lying in the distance.

"I… I think so… probably…" Pilaf said weakly, completely confused himself.

Asking About Goku

At that moment, Broly slowly walked over.

"Have you seen Goku?"

He casually described him.

"A kid carrying a staff, wearing orange clothes, not very tall… looks a bit silly."

"W-well… he…" Mai stuttered nervously, avoiding their eyes.

"What happened to him?!" Roshi demanded.

A bad feeling formed in his heart.

"I-if I say… he was killed by Demon King Piccolo…" Pilaf cried.

"You… you won't kill us out of anger… right?"

"What did you say?!" Roshi's face turned pale.

His body swayed slightly.

"So… Goku… really died?"

Even though he had mentally prepared himself, hearing the confirmation still filled Roshi with deep sorrow.

"It's fine, old man," Broly said calmly.

"Didn't we already gather all the Dragon Balls?"

"We can revive him with them."

Roshi froze for a moment.

Then he nodded slowly.

"You're right…"

He had almost forgotten their last hope.

But the grief of losing his student still weighed heavily on his heart.

What To Do With Pilaf's Group?

"What about these three?" Broly asked casually.

He looked down at the trembling Pilaf trio as if they were insects.

"Should we just kill them to avoid future trouble?"

Roshi: "..."

Roshi glanced at Broly in surprise.

He suddenly realized something.

This boy who spent every day eating and sleeping…

actually showed a surprisingly cold decisiveness toward enemies.

Had that brief battle awakened some hidden fighting instinct within him?

"NO! Please don't kill us!" Pilaf screamed.

"We'll change! We'll become good people! Please give us another chance!"

The three of them bowed frantically again.

"Get lost!" Roshi finally shouted.

"If I ever find out you're doing evil again… I won't spare you next time!"

The three of them immediately scrambled to their feet.

As if they had just received the greatest mercy in the world.

Without caring about their injuries, they ran away at top speed.

They disappeared into the distance screaming.

Broly didn't chase them.

He had no real interest in killing.

He had only asked casually.

Since the old man decided to let them go, he didn't care anymore.

Roshi's Big Question

After Pilaf's group vanished from sight, Roshi slowly turned toward Broly.

He stared at him carefully from head to toe.

As if seeing him for the first time.

"Broly… you…"

"When did you become this strong?!"

"This is ridiculously powerful!"

"I don't know," Broly said while scratching his thick black hair.

He smiled innocently.

"I just feel like…"

"Every day when I wake up, I naturally become a little stronger."

"It's not much… but it keeps increasing."

Roshi didn't reply.

He simply stared at Broly with a look that clearly said:

"Do I look like an idiot to you?"

This kid spent every day thinking about what to eat and how to sleep better.

He had never even practiced a basic horse stance.

And now he was saying he got stronger just by sleeping?

That's impossible.

There's no such thing as power gained without effort in this world!
