Chapter 5: That Afternoon Under the Krushnachura Tree
5:00 PM. A light rain has started. Nilima reached the old spot wrapped in a blue scarf. From a distance, she saw a tall shadow standing under the Krushnachura tree. He was wearing the same old-style shirt, but the restless Sayan of the past was much calmer today.
As she approached, Sayan turned around. Nilima saw that there were no complaints in Sayan's eyes today, only a mountain of waiting. Sayan said in a low voice, "I knew you would come, Nilima. In these three years, I have looked at this tree at least once every afternoon."
Nilima burst into tears. Sayan took a worn-out blue envelope from his pocket. "This is the letter I wanted to give you the day I left. But you didn't pick up the phone."
