Chapter 2 - The Girl He Loved

Morning sunlight slowly entered the classroom of Aether High Academy.

Golden rays passed through the tall windows and touched the wooden desks where young mages prepared for another day of training.

Students talked excitedly about magic lessons, duels, and future dreams.

But at the back of the classroom, near the quiet window seat, sat Auren Vale.

Like always, he was silent.

His books were open, but his eyes were not on the pages.

They were looking somewhere else.

Or more precisely…

Someone else.

At the front of the classroom sat Elira Dawncrest.

Her long silver hair reflected the sunlight, making it look almost like glowing threads of light.

She laughed softly while talking with her friends.

Her voice was warm.

Gentle.

And strangely comforting.

Auren watched her quietly.

Not in a strange way.

Not in a selfish way.

He simply liked seeing her smile.

Because whenever she smiled, the world somehow felt lighter.

To Auren, Elira was like the morning sun.

Bright.

Beautiful.

And far away.

Someone he could admire…

But never truly reach.

For years, Auren had carried a quiet feeling in his heart.

A feeling he never dared to speak.

Love.

But it was the quiet kind of love.

The kind that lives silently in the heart.

The kind that doesn't ask for anything in return.

Sometimes, Auren wondered when it began.

Maybe it started that day when she helped him pick up his books.

Or maybe it started even earlier.

When they were in junior classes.

Back then, Auren was even quieter than he was now.

Many students ignored him.

Some even laughed at his weak magic.

But Elira never did.

One afternoon during junior class training, something happened that Auren would never forget.

Students were practicing basic magic control in the training field.

Some created small flames.

Some controlled wind.

Others summoned tiny sparks of lightning.

When it was Auren's turn, he stepped forward nervously.

The instructor crossed his arms.

"Show us your magic."

Auren raised his hand.

He tried to focus.

Tried to summon his Void Spark.

But nothing impressive happened.

Only a tiny, faint black spark appeared.

It flickered for a second…

Then disappeared.

The field became quiet.

Then someone laughed.

"That's it?"

"Is that even magic?"

More laughter followed.

Auren lowered his head.

He had already heard these words many times before.

But that didn't make them hurt less.

Just when the laughter grew louder…

A voice suddenly spoke.

"That's not funny."

The field went silent again.

Everyone turned.

It was Elira.

She stood there with calm but serious eyes.

"Everyone has different magic," she said softly.

"We shouldn't laugh at someone for trying."

Her words were simple.

But they carried honesty.

The students slowly stopped laughing.

Even the instructor nodded.

"You're right," he said.

Auren stood there quietly.

But inside his heart…

Something warm appeared.

It was not pride.

Not confidence.

Just gratitude.

That day, Elira didn't even look at him.

She simply said what she believed was right.

But for Auren…

That small moment stayed with him forever.

Because sometimes, kindness is stronger than magic.

Years passed after that.

The students grew older.

Their magic became stronger.

Dreams became clearer.

But Auren's feelings never changed.

He still loved Elira.

Quietly.

Respectfully.

From a distance.

One afternoon after school, Auren sat under a large tree near the academy courtyard.

It was his favorite place.

Peaceful.

Silent.

A gentle breeze moved the leaves above him.

He was reading a book about ancient magic history.

Or at least…

He was pretending to read.

Because his thoughts were somewhere else again.

"Are you hiding here again?"

A soft voice suddenly spoke.

Auren looked up in surprise.

It was Elira.

She stood beside the tree, smiling gently.

Auren quickly closed his book.

"I… I wasn't hiding," he said awkwardly.

Elira laughed a little.

"You always sit here alone."

She sat down on the grass nearby.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The wind moved quietly around them.

Then Elira looked at him curiously.

"You like reading, right?"

Auren nodded.

"Yes."

"What kind of books?"

"History… magic theory… sometimes stories."

Elira smiled.

"That sounds peaceful."

Then she looked at the sky.

"You're very calm, Auren."

He blinked in surprise.

"Am I?"

"Yes."

"You never fight with anyone. You never get angry."

She tilted her head slightly.

"Sometimes I wonder what you're thinking about."

Auren looked away.

If she knew the answer…

She might laugh.

Or worse…

She might feel uncomfortable.

Because the truth was simple.

Most of the time…

He was thinking about her.

But Auren only smiled slightly.

"Nothing important."

Elira didn't push further.

Instead, she stood up.

"Well, I should go. My training class starts soon."

She paused for a moment.

Then she said something unexpected.

"You're a kind person, Auren."

He looked up.

Her eyes were sincere.

"People might not notice," she said softly, "but I think kindness is a rare kind of strength."

Auren felt his chest tighten slightly.

No one had ever said something like that to him before.

"Thank you," he whispered.

Elira smiled again.

Then she walked away.

Auren watched her until she disappeared beyond the academy path.

The courtyard became quiet again.

Leaves moved gently in the wind.

Auren leaned back against the tree.

His heart felt strangely warm.

Sometimes he wondered…

If things could stay like this forever.

Just peaceful days.

Quiet conversations.

Small moments.

But deep inside…

Auren knew the truth.

Nothing in this world lasts forever.

And somewhere beyond the peaceful sky of Lunaris…

Darkness was slowly gathering.

Demons were beginning to awaken.

Ancient creatures of destruction.

They had waited for centuries.

And now…

Their time was coming.

A storm that would soon shake the entire world.

A war that would destroy cities.

And when that day arrived…

The quiet boy sitting under the tree…

Would have to make a choice.

A choice that could change everything.

Even if the world never knew.

Even if the girl he loved…

Never remembered him.
