Chapter 4 - When the Sky Turned Red

The days after Auren's confession passed slowly.

Life at Aether High Academy continued like nothing had changed.

Students attended classes.

Magic training continued in the open fields.

Teachers lectured about spell theory and ancient history.

Everything seemed normal.

But for Auren Vale, things felt different.

Every day he wondered the same question.

What would Elira say?

Would she accept his feelings?

Or would she gently reject him?

Auren didn't rush her.

She had asked for time.

And he respected that.

So he waited quietly.

Just like he always had.

Sometimes they still spoke in class.

Their conversations were normal.

Simple.

But there was a small distance now.

Not coldness.

Just hesitation.

And Auren could feel it.

Still, he did not regret telling the truth.

Because love, even when painful…

Was better than silence.

One afternoon during combat training, the instructor stood before the class.

"Today we will practice defensive barrier spells," he said loudly.

Students formed groups across the training field.

Bright magic lights began appearing everywhere.

Fire shields.

Wind walls.

Stone barriers.

Powerful magic filled the air.

But as usual, Auren stood quietly near the edge of the field.

His Void Spark magic was considered too weak for most training exercises.

Some students whispered when they saw him.

"Why is he even here?"

"He can't fight demons with that useless magic."

Auren heard the words.

But he didn't react.

He had heard them for years.

And they didn't matter anymore.

His eyes moved across the field.

Until they stopped at one person.

Elira.

She stood at the center of her group.

Golden light formed around her hands.

Her magic was beautiful.

A shield of pure light appeared in front of her.

Strong.

Elegant.

The instructor nodded with approval.

"Excellent control."

Some students clapped.

Elira smiled shyly.

But then…

Something strange happened.

The sky suddenly became darker.

At first, no one noticed.

Clouds slowly gathered above the academy.

The bright afternoon sun disappeared behind them.

A cold wind began blowing across the field.

Students looked up.

"Is a storm coming?"

The instructor frowned.

"This weather wasn't predicted."

Then the wind became stronger.

Much stronger.

The temperature dropped suddenly.

A strange pressure filled the air.

Auren felt it immediately.

His expression changed slightly.

Because that pressure…

Was not natural.

It felt dark.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Then suddenly—

BOOOOOOOOM

A loud explosion echoed far away.

Students screamed.

"What was that?!"

Another explosion followed.

This time closer.

Smoke began rising in the distance beyond the academy walls.

The instructor shouted immediately.

"Everyone stay calm!"

But panic was already spreading.

Teachers rushed across the field.

More explosions echoed across the city of Lunaris.

Then something appeared in the sky.

At first it looked like black clouds.

But soon students realized the truth.

They were not clouds.

They were flying creatures.

Hundreds of them.

Dark wings.

Red glowing eyes.

Monstrous bodies.

One student whispered in horror.

"Those are…"

Another finished the sentence.

"…Demons."

Fear spread instantly.

Demons were creatures from ancient legends.

They were enemies of humanity.

Creatures that once nearly destroyed the world centuries ago.

But they were supposed to be sealed away.

So why were they here?

Why were there so many?

The academy alarm suddenly began ringing loudly.

WOOOOOOO— WOOOOOOO—

Emergency sirens echoed everywhere.

Teachers shouted orders.

"All students inside the academy building!"

"Move quickly!"

But before anyone could move—

A massive shadow fell across the training field.

Students looked up.

And their faces turned pale.

A gigantic demon was descending from the sky.

Its wings stretched wider than a building.

Its skin was dark like burning stone.

Its eyes glowed like red fire.

And when it opened its mouth…

A deep terrifying voice echoed.

"Humans…"

The ground shook when it landed.

Dust exploded into the air.

Students screamed and ran in panic.

Some tried casting spells.

Others froze in fear.

The demon laughed.

A horrible, cruel sound.

"So weak."

It raised one massive claw.

Dark energy gathered in its palm.

The instructor shouted desperately.

"DEFENSIVE FORMATION!"

Teachers quickly created magical barriers around the students.

Bright shields of light appeared.

But the demon only laughed again.

Then it attacked.

A massive blast of dark energy exploded toward the field.

The barriers shattered instantly.

Students were thrown across the ground.

The academy buildings shook violently.

Some walls collapsed.

Screams filled the air.

Chaos had begun.

Auren stood in the middle of the destruction.

His eyes slowly scanned the battlefield.

Demons were flying everywhere above the city.

Fires were starting in the distance.

Buildings were collapsing.

The war had started.

And humanity was losing.

Then Auren saw something that made his heart tighten.

Across the broken field…

Elira had fallen.

She had protected several students with her light barrier.

But the demon's attack had been too strong.

She struggled to stand again.

The giant demon slowly walked toward the group of injured students.

Its red eyes were filled with cruel amusement.

"Pathetic humans."

Dark energy gathered in its claws again.

Elira tried to stand.

But she was too weak.

The students behind her trembled in fear.

Someone whispered,

"We're going to die…"

At that moment…

Auren quietly took one step forward.

His expression was calm.

Too calm for someone standing in the middle of a demon invasion.

The wind moved gently around him.

His eyes looked toward the massive demon.

And for the first time…

Something ancient stirred inside his soul.

A power older than magic itself.

A power capable of rewriting reality.

But Auren whispered quietly to himself.

"Not yet."

Because if he used that power now…

Everything would change.

And Auren had never wanted the world to know.
