Chapter 62 — The Cliff Confrontation
The northern Scottish cliffs were unforgiving. Mist swirled around jagged rocks, waves crashed violently against the cliffs, and a bone-chilling wind cut through every layer of clothing. The 18-person team had surrounded the area, each member frozen for a split second, sensing the tension in the air.
"Remember your roles," Care whispered, voice low but firm, her asthma flaring slightly from the cold. Her inhaler was ready in Cole's hands. "Kevin wants chaos. We give him none."
Cole's hand brushed her arm. "We move together. Ash comes back in one piece. End of story."
Lyra's hands were tight on the tracking device. "He's here. He's somewhere on the cliff edge."
JJ checked the live drone feed. "Visual confirmed. Kevin's rigged multiple decoys. He's baiting us. Watch the ledges, the rocks, everything."
Endrix's voice buzzed through the comms. "I've mapped the cliffside for traps. Some are physical, some digital… every signal he can control is monitored. But it's incomplete—he's a step ahead, and dangerous."
Ash in Danger
Kevin's dark silhouette appeared on a narrow ledge. Ash sat bound to a chair, unconscious, her hair blowing in the wind, the same drug still coursing through her veins.
"Sleep well, my little Ash," Kevin whispered, a malicious smile touching his lips. He traced a finger lightly across her cheek. The cold, calculated danger in his eyes made even Keifer tense.
Care's heart clenched. "Cole… she's not going to make it if we don't act now."
Cole's eyes were icy. "We don't just rush. That's exactly what he wants. I go in with you. Keifer, JJ, cover the flanks."
Strategic Assault
Care's voice sliced through the group. "Nova, Ben—prepare medkits. Lyra, Daisy—track Ash's vitals. Joong, Alex—be ready for legal fallout, but right now, we save her. Percy, Honey, Rakhi, Freya, Aries, Ella, Cin—cover exits, prevent escape."
The main four—Care, Cole, Keifer, JJ—moved carefully up the jagged cliff. Every footstep could trigger a deadly slide, every rope or support Kevin could have placed might snap.
Ash stirred, groaning. Kevin leaned close. "Almost time… almost free."
Care's fists clenched. "He won't get her alive."
First Contact
Cole led the charge, keeping his body low, eyes locked on Kevin. Care followed, inhaler in hand, each step burning her lungs with effort. JJ coordinated from a higher point, calling out enemy trap locations. Keifer's eyes scanned the surroundings, anticipating every possible maneuver.
"Kevin! Release her!" Cole's voice thundered across the cliff.
Kevin's lips curved. "Ah, the loyal pets finally arrive. Too late?"
Ash groaned weakly, starting to wake, confusion and fear in her eyes. Her breaths were shallow.
Care's chest tightened. "Stay conscious, Ash. Help is here."
Chaos Explodes
Kevin pulled a small firearm from his coat. A warning shot cracked across the cliffside air, echoing through the mist.
Everyone flinched. Percy shouted from the group: "Take cover!"
Lyra ducked instinctively, while Daisy grabbed her, pulling her down.
Kevin's grin widened. "One step closer, and someone dies. Don't worry—I'll choose carefully."
Care's asthma was spiking. Her breaths came ragged. Cole immediately placed the inhaler in her hands, guiding her through quick puffs. "Focus, not panic. Every second counts."
Keifer and JJ flanked Kevin, coordinating silently. "He's baiting us… but he miscalculated," JJ muttered.
Cole edged closer, voice steady but cold. "Step away from her. One move—"
The Struggle
Kevin laughed, a chilling sound over the howling wind. He shoved Ash's chair toward the edge. Her bound hands scraped the chair, panic flashing in her eyes as she woke.
"Kevin! Stop!" Care screamed.
Kevin smirked. "Or what? You'll fall too?"
Cole lunged, grabbing Ash's chair. The drug still weakened her muscles; she slumped forward against Cole. Care lunged alongside, fingers gripping the ropes Kevin had used to secure Ash.
A chaotic fight ensued. Kevin's movements were precise, but he hadn't counted on the coordination of four highly skilled individuals who had trained together.
Keifer intercepted a thrown knife. JJ disabled a rigged pulley that could have sent Ash over the cliff. Cole shielded Ash from debris. Care, despite her asthma, worked with Cole to free Ash's bindings.
The Fatal Shot
Kevin, realizing the coordinated assault was overwhelming, pulled out the gun again. His eyes scanned the group. His finger tightened on the trigger.
A gunshot rang out.
Chaos.
A scream.
Lyra staggered, blood spraying across the cliff's stone, her leg buckling. She fell to the side, screaming, as Daisy and Alex lunged to catch her.
Kevin's grin remained. "One down. Others? Escape at your peril."
Care's chest heaved. Her inhaler barely keeping her alive. Cole gritted his teeth, furious. "You bastard!"
Care shoved Cole back, ignoring her own pain. "Focus! Ash!"
Cole grabbed her. Together, they reached Ash, cradling her as Care's mind raced. Every second, every heartbeat mattered.
Emotional Fallout
Ash, still groggy, blinked in fear. "Care… Cole… help…"
Care's voice cracked, exhaustion and fear flooding her. "I've got you. We've got you. No one touches you, Ash. Not now. Not ever."
Cole's eyes glinted, jaw tight, protective. "Kevin made a huge mistake. We will end this tonight."
JJ and Keifer moved to secure Kevin's flank, while Endrix, watching remotely, already traced his exit routes, cutting off escape.
Lyra, bandaged quickly by Nova, cried softly, adrenaline and pain mixing. "He… he almost…"
Care, for the first time, allowed herself a silent tear. "We won't let him win. Not him. Not ever."
The Cliff Edge
Kevin, realizing his trap had failed, stepped back toward the cliff. The tide crashed below. His plan—meticulously prepared—was collapsing.
Care stood, trembling, her asthma stabilized just enough. Cole and Keifer flanked him. JJ had eyes on every escape route.
Care's voice rang, calm but deadly: "Kevin Patel… this ends. Right here. Right now."
Kevin's grin faltered. For the first time, he sensed the storm of 18 people, coordinated, skilled, emotionally unstoppable closing in.
Ash, still weak, whispered to Care: "I… I knew… you'd come."
Care's hand squeezed hers. "Always. I'll never leave you. Not ever."
Cole's hand gripped Kevin's shoulder, ready to pull him down. Keifer and JJ had the flanks. Endrix and the team had communications jammed.
The northern cliff was alive with tension, wind, crashing waves, adrenaline, and fear.
Kevin had made his move.
But Care and the team were ready to end it.
