Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: First Encounter

Night fell again.

The meeting place was a quiet rooftop café overlooking the city.

Elara arrived early.

Her instincts were alert.

Every shadow felt suspicious.

Then she sensed someone behind her.

"Miss Valen."

The voice was calm.

Deep.

She turned slowly.

The man standing there was taller than she expected.

Dark hair.

Sharp eyes.

A presence that commanded attention without effort.

Lucian Vale.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Lucian studied her carefully.

"You're younger than I expected," he said.

Elara crossed her arms.

"And you're more dramatic than necessary."

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

Interesting.

Most people trembled when meeting him.

But this girl…

She challenged him.

Lucian stepped closer.

"I assume you verified my identity."

"Three separate databases," Elara replied.

"And?"

"You're exactly who you claim to be."

Lucian nodded approvingly.

"Good."

Silence stretched between them.

Finally Elara spoke.

"You said you knew about the crash."

Lucian's expression darkened.

"I do."

"And you said it connects to my family."

"Yes."

Her voice sharpened.

"Explain."

Lucian looked out over the city lights.

Then back at her.

"The Valen corporation," he said quietly, "is part of a financial network manipulating global markets."

Elara felt her stomach tighten.

"And my father?"

Lucian's gaze held hers.

"He's one of the architects."

The world seemed to tilt for a moment.

But Elara forced herself to remain calm.

"Why are you telling me this?"

Lucian stepped closer again.

His voice softened slightly.

"Because you're the only person smart enough to stop him."

Their eyes met.

For a brief second…

Something unexpected passed between them.

Not fear.

Not suspicion.

Something far more dangerous.

Recognition.

Lucian spoke again.

"Work with me, Elara."

Her heart beat faster.

"And if I refuse?"

Lucian's gaze became unreadable.

"Then you'll face them alone."

The wind swept across the rooftop.

Elara looked at the city below.

Then back at Lucian.

And she realized something terrifying.

Her life had just stepped onto a battlefield.

And the man standing in front of her…

Might be her greatest ally.

Or her most dangerous mistake.
