Chapter 2 - The Mystery of the Strange House

Introduction

Mysteries have always fascinated human beings. From ancient times, people have been curious about strange places, unusual events, and unexplained stories. Old houses, abandoned buildings, and forgotten villages often carry secrets that no one fully understands. Some people are afraid of such mysteries, while others feel excited to explore them.

In a small village surrounded by forests, there was an old house that had become the center of many mysterious stories. For years, villagers believed that something strange was hidden there. Many people were afraid to even walk near the house.

However, one brave boy decided to discover the truth behind the mystery. His curiosity led him to an adventure that changed the story of the village forever.

This is the story of "The Mystery of the Strange House."

The Peaceful Village of Shalban

Many years ago, there was a small village called Shalban. It was a quiet and beautiful place surrounded by tall sal trees, green fields, and small rivers. Birds sang in the morning, and the gentle wind moved through the forest.

The villagers lived simple lives. Most of them were farmers who worked in the fields during the day. Others were fishermen who caught fish in the nearby river. The people of Shalban were kind and hardworking. They lived peacefully and helped each other in times of need.

Children played in the open fields, and elders spent their evenings sitting under large banyan trees, sharing stories about the past.

However, despite its beauty and peace, the village had one strange and mysterious place.

At the edge of the village stood an old abandoned house.

The Strange House

The house was large but broken and neglected. Its walls were covered with moss, and its windows were shattered. Tall grass and wild plants surrounded the building.

The wooden door of the house hung loosely, creaking whenever the wind blew.

For many years, no one had lived there.

The villagers believed the house was cursed.

Some people claimed that strange lights appeared in the house at night. Others said they heard footsteps and knocking sounds coming from inside.

Children were strictly warned never to go near the house.

Because of these stories, the house became known as "The Strange House."

The Story of the Landlord

The elders of the village told an old story about the house.

Many years ago, a wealthy landlord named Ramesh Chandra Roy lived there. He owned large areas of land and had a great fortune.

Despite his wealth, he lived a very lonely life.

He had no family and rarely spoke to the villagers. People often saw him walking around his house late at night, carrying papers and writing in his diary.

Some villagers believed he was hiding something.

One night, something very strange happened.

The landlord suddenly disappeared.

The next morning, the servants found the house completely empty. His room was open, his belongings were still there, but the landlord himself was gone.

The villagers searched everywhere, but he was never found.

After that mysterious incident, the house remained empty forever.

Rahul's Arrival

Many years later, a boy named Rahul came to the village from the city to visit his uncle.

Rahul was a curious and adventurous boy. He loved exploring new places and solving mysteries.

The quiet village fascinated him. Every day he walked around the fields, forests, and rivers.

One evening, while sitting with the villagers, Rahul heard the story of the strange house.

The mysterious disappearance of the landlord caught his attention.

Instead of feeling afraid, Rahul became extremely curious.

Meeting Suman

Rahul soon made friends with a boy named Suman, who lived in the village.

Suman knew many local stories.

When Rahul mentioned the strange house, Suman looked worried.

He said,

"People say the house is haunted. Strange sounds come from there at night."

Rahul laughed.

"I don't believe in such things unless I see them myself."

Suman hesitated.

"No one goes there. Even the elders avoid that place."

Rahul smiled confidently.

"Then we should go and see what is really there."

After some discussion, Suman finally agreed.

They decided to visit the house the next afternoon.

Entering the Mysterious House

The next day, Rahul and Suman walked toward the strange house.

As they approached the building, the atmosphere became quiet and uncomfortable.

The wind made the old door creak.

Rahul slowly pushed the door open.

The inside of the house was dark and dusty.

Spider webs covered the corners of the walls. Broken furniture lay scattered across the floor.

It felt like the house had been frozen in time.

Suddenly they heard a strange sound.

Knock… Knock… Knock…

Suman's face turned pale.

"Did you hear that?" he whispered.

Rahul nodded.

"Yes. Let's find where it's coming from."

The Hidden Room

They followed the sound through a narrow hallway.

At the end of the corridor, they found a small wooden door.

The door was locked but very old.

Rahul pushed it hard.

The door slowly opened.

Inside the room, they found an old wooden chest.

The knocking sound stopped.

Rahul carefully opened the chest.

Inside it, they found a dusty diary.

The Secret Diary

The diary belonged to Ramesh Chandra Roy.

Rahul opened the pages and began reading.

The diary revealed an incredible secret.

The landlord had hidden a large treasure somewhere in the house.

He was afraid that thieves would steal his wealth.

So he secretly built a hidden underground chamber.

Only he knew its location.

Discovering the Hidden Passage

Suddenly, the knocking sound returned.

This time it came from beneath the floor.

Rahul looked carefully and noticed that one wooden plank was loose.

Together they lifted it.

Underneath, they discovered a narrow staircase leading down into darkness.

Rahul turned on his torch.

They slowly walked down the stairs.

The Underground Chamber

The staircase led to a hidden underground room.

The air was cold and silent.

In the center of the room stood a large iron chest.

Rahul and Suman looked at each other nervously.

Slowly, they opened the chest.

Inside were gold coins, jewelry, and precious treasures.

They could hardly believe their eyes.

A Sudden Fear

Suddenly, they heard a loud sound behind them.

The wooden door above the stairs was closing slowly.

Fear rushed through them.

"Run!" Rahul shouted.

They quickly climbed the stairs and pushed the door open.

Finally, they escaped from the house.

Revealing the Truth

The next morning, Rahul and Suman told the villagers everything.

At first, people did not believe them.

But when they visited the house and saw the treasure, they were amazed.

After discussing the matter, the villagers made an important decision.

The treasure would be used to build schools, roads, and wells for the village.

Conclusion

After that day, the strange house was no longer feared by the villagers.

Instead, it became a symbol of courage and discovery.

Rahul's curiosity and bravery had solved a mystery that had remained unsolved for many years.

The villagers often told the story of Rahul and the strange house to their children.

And everyone agreed on one thing:

Mysteries may seem frightening, but with courage and curiosity, the truth can always be discovered.
