Chapter 3 - The Legend of the Treasure

Lucas stared at the map as if it might suddenly come alive.

"You're telling me this leads to a real treasure?" he asked.

Ethan nodded. "That's what it looks like."

Maya tapped one of the strange symbols with her pencil. "But it's not that simple. These markings warn about traps, dangers… and something called the Guardian."

Lucas leaned back in his chair.

"Okay, I'm excited… but also slightly terrified."

Ethan rolled the map halfway closed.

"There's only one person in Raven Hollow who might know more about this."

Maya already knew who he meant.

"Old Samuel."

Old Samuel's shop stood at the far edge of town. The small wooden building looked ancient, filled with dusty artifacts, books, and strange objects collected from travelers.

A small bell rang when they pushed the door open.

Old Samuel sat behind a wooden desk, polishing an old compass.

Without looking up, he spoke.

"I was wondering when someone would bring that map to me."

The three friends froze.

"You… knew about it?" Ethan asked.

Samuel slowly raised his eyes.

"I knew your grandfather, Ethan," he said calmly. "And I knew one day someone would come asking about the Forbidden Treasure."

Ethan carefully placed the map on the table.

Samuel studied it quietly for a moment.

"This map leads to the Blackstone Mountains," he said. "But what lies there is far more dangerous than gold."

Lucas frowned. "Wait… so the treasure isn't gold?"

Samuel shook his head.

"Long ago, before Raven Hollow existed, an ancient civilization lived in those mountains. They were powerful and wise, but they discovered something… something dangerous."

"What was it?" Maya asked.

Samuel leaned closer.

"A mysterious artifact."

He pointed to the symbol at the center of the map.

"This artifact holds incredible power.

Some say it can control energy itself.

Others believe it can reshape the world."

Lucas swallowed.

"Yeah… that definitely sounds like something we shouldn't mess with."

Samuel continued.

"The people of that civilization feared the artifact would fall into the wrong hands. So they hid it deep beneath the mountains and created a protector."

"The Guardian," Ethan said quietly.

Samuel nodded.

"The Mountain Guardian was sworn to protect the treasure forever."

The shop grew silent.

"So what happened to the civilization?" Maya asked.

"No one knows," Samuel replied. "One day they simply vanished."

Lucas crossed his arms.

"Okay, this story just went from treasure hunt to horror movie."

Samuel suddenly looked serious.

"You must listen carefully," he said.

"Many people have searched for the Forbidden Treasure."

He paused.

"None of them returned."

A cold chill ran through Ethan.

But instead of fear, he felt something stronger.

Determination.

"My grandfather had this map," Ethan said. "That means he believed the treasure could be found."

Samuel looked at him carefully.

"Your grandfather once searched for it himself," he said quietly.

Ethan's eyes widened.

"What?"

Samuel nodded.

"But he turned back."

"Why?" Maya asked.

Samuel slowly rolled the map back up and handed it to Ethan.

Because he realized some treasures are never meant to be claimed."

Before Ethan could ask another question, the door of the shop suddenly slammed open.

A strong gust of wind blew through the room.

Outside, dark clouds were gathering over Raven Hollow.

Samuel looked toward the mountains in the distance.

"They're already moving," he murmured.

"Who?" Lucas asked nervously.

Samuel's face grew grave.

"Treasure hunters."

And somewhere far beyond the forest, in a black armored vehicle driving toward Raven Hollow, Victor Draven watched the mountains through the window.

He smiled coldly.

"The hunt begins."
