Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 : The Stalker in the Shadows

Night slowly settled over Beika City.

Streetlights flickered on as the evening crowd thinned.

From the outside, everything looked ordinary.

But three different observers were watching the same man tonight.

Haruki Akizawa.

And none of them trusted him.

Observer One

Inside a convenience store across the street sat a small boy with glasses.

A juice box rested on the table in front of him.

But he hadn't taken a sip.

Conan Edogawa watched the apartment building entrance carefully.

"He lives here…"

He had spent the last two hours confirming it.

Haruki Akizawa.

Apartment 302.

Recently moved in.

No family.

No known relatives in Japan.

Conan muttered quietly.

"Your past doesn't exist…"

Every record before three years ago was blank.

That was impossible.

Which meant only two options.

A fabricated identity.

Or someone extremely skilled at covering their tracks.

Conan leaned back in his chair.

"But why live quietly in Beika?"

Observer Two

A black car parked half a block away.

Inside the vehicle sat two men.

Vodka lowered his binoculars.

"He hasn't left yet."

Beside him sat Gin.

Gin smoked silently.

Watching the same apartment building.

Vodka asked carefully.

"You really think he's worth this?"

Gin answered calmly.

"A man who appears around crimes repeatedly."

"And solves them quietly."

Smoke drifted toward the car ceiling.

"Those kinds of people are dangerous."

Vodka scratched his head.

"So what's the plan?"

Gin flicked ash out the window.

"We test him."

Observer Three

Inside Apartment 302.

Haruki Akizawa stood near the window.

Looking down at the street.

His reflection stared back at him in the glass.

Three observers.

Two confirmed.

One suspected.

Haruki adjusted his glasses slightly.

Then—

DING

[ SYSTEM ALERT ]

Danger Prediction Activated

Multiple observers detected nearby.

Threat Level: Moderate

Haruki closed his eyes briefly.

"So both sides are watching."

Conan.

And the Black Organization.

Things were accelerating faster than expected.

Then another notification appeared.

[ SYSTEM NOTIFICATION ]

Hidden Mission Generated

Mission: The Hunter's Patience

Objective:

Confirm identities of observers without exposing yourself.

Conditions:

• Avoid detection

• Gather information

Strategic Deduction System Upgrade

Haruki smiled faintly.

A rare expression.

"Now this is interesting."

10:45 PM

Haruki turned off the apartment lights.

From outside—

It looked like he had gone to sleep.

Vodka noticed immediately.

"Lights out."

Gin nodded slowly.

"Let's see if he stays inside."

But inside the apartment—

Haruki moved silently.

He opened a small drawer.

Inside were two system items.

Micro Camera Lens

Evidence Scanner Lens

He attached the micro lens to his glasses.

Then quietly opened the back window.

The fire escape ladder descended into a narrow alley.

Haruki climbed down without a sound.

Across the street.

Conan frowned.

"Something's wrong…"

The lights had turned off too early.

For someone who usually stayed up late reading.

Conan stood up.

"I'll check something."

The convenience store clerk barely looked up.

Meanwhile—

Gin suddenly spoke inside the car.

"He's gone."

Vodka blinked.

"What?"

Gin pointed.

"The apartment window."

Vodka grabbed the binoculars again.

The fire escape ladder was slightly lowered.

Vodka cursed.

"Damn it!"

Meanwhile.

Haruki walked calmly down the alley.

As if he had been there the entire time.

First target.

The convenience store.

He stepped inside quietly.

Conan had just walked outside moments earlier.

Haruki glanced at the empty table.

Juice box.

Warm.

Recently opened.

He paid for a bottle of water.

Then left casually.

"Conan Edogawa confirmed."

Next.

The black car.

Haruki approached from behind.

Danger Prediction activated again.

Hostile intent.

Haruki continued walking past the vehicle like a normal pedestrian.

Inside the car—

Vodka suddenly stiffened.

"Boss…"

Gin's eyes moved slightly.

Someone had just walked past.

Tall.

Glasses.

Calm.

Gin turned his head slowly.

Through the rearview mirror—

Haruki Akizawa continued walking down the street.

Gin smirked slightly.

"So he found us."

Vodka swallowed nervously.

"What now?"

Gin smiled faintly.

"Good."

Meanwhile.

Haruki turned the corner.

Mission objective completed.

He confirmed both observers.

But just as he relaxed slightly—

DING

[ SYSTEM ALERT ]

Danger Prediction Triggered

Immediate threat approaching.

Haruki's eyes narrowed.

A motorcycle engine roared from the street ahead.

A masked rider sped directly toward him.

Too fast.

Intentional.

Haruki stepped sideways instantly.

The motorcycle swerved.

A metal pipe swung toward his head.

Assassination attempt.

Haruki ducked.

The pipe slammed into a wall.

The rider tried to turn back—

But Haruki grabbed the back of the motorcycle jacket.

Using the rider's momentum—

He pulled hard.

The attacker crashed violently onto the pavement.

The motorcycle skidded across the road.

Haruki pinned the attacker to the ground.

But before he could remove the helmet—

The man bit down on something.

Foam filled his mouth.

Poison capsule.

The attacker died within seconds.

Haruki stood slowly.

Watching the body.

Professional suicide pill.

Classic criminal organization tactic.

But not Black Organization standard.

Too sloppy.

Too public.

Haruki realized instantly.

Someone else had moved first.

Another player had entered the game.

Across the street.

Conan had witnessed the entire fight from the shadows.

His eyes widened.

"He just disarmed a killer…"

"Like it was nothing."

Conan's mind raced.

This was no ordinary civilian.

Not even a normal detective.

Haruki Akizawa was something else entirely.

Meanwhile.

Inside the black car—

Vodka stared in shock.

"He killed the attacker!"

Gin shook his head calmly.

"No."

"He only defended himself."

Gin's eyes gleamed in the darkness.

"And now we know something important."

Vodka asked quietly.

"What?"

Gin lit another cigarette.

"He's not weak."

Police sirens approached in the distance.

Haruki stepped away from the body.

Then walked calmly into the night.

As if nothing had happened.

Conan watched him disappear into the streetlights.

His mind now certain of one thing.

"Haruki Akizawa…"

"You're hiding a huge secret."

And now—

Conan Kudo wanted the answer more than ever.
