Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 – The Retaliation

The city was quieter than usual, but Adam could feel the tension in the air. Kane was no longer content to sit back—he was coming for him directly.

Adam, Lina, and Selene had set up a temporary safehouse. Files were secured, maps reviewed, and plans for the next strike were ready.

But before they could relax, the sound of tires screeching echoed outside.

Adam's eyes snapped to the window. A sleek black SUV skidded to a stop in front of the building. Kane's men poured out, armed and moving with precision.

"They found us," Selene whispered, checking her device. "They knew exactly where we were."

Adam grabbed Lina's hand. "Stay close. Follow me."

The three of them moved through the back exit. Bullets ricocheted around them, breaking windows and sending shards flying. Adam led them through narrow alleys, knowing every turn from his city scouting years ago.

Lina's heart raced. "Adam… they're everywhere!"

He kept his voice calm. "We'll be fine. Just trust me."

They ducked into an abandoned building. Adam quickly barricaded the entrances, catching his breath. Outside, Kane's men were searching systematically.

Selene handed Adam a small handgun. "For protection. You won't get a second chance if they corner you."

Adam nodded. "I know."

Suddenly, one of Kane's men tried to break through a side window. Adam fired a precise shot, hitting the man's leg. He cried out, falling to the ground.

Lina gasped. "Adam…"

"Focus on staying alive," he said. "We'll get through this."

Minutes felt like hours. Finally, the attackers retreated, frustrated that their target had slipped away.

Adam exhaled slowly, turning to Lina and Selene. "This was just the opening move. Kane wants a war… and we're about to give him one."

Lina squeezed his hand. "Then we fight together. No matter what."

Adam nodded, determination blazing in his eyes. "Together."

Outside, the city lights reflected on the wet streets. A storm had passed—but another, far more dangerous, was coming.

And Adam was ready to face it head-on.
