"ROAR!!!"
With the roars of Mega Houndoom and Charizard, two terrifying streams of flames continuously swept through the ice golems. As the two fire-type attackers Ash had brought along, Mega Houndoom and Mega Charizard Y had a secret synergy: their Abilities.
Mega Charizard Y's Ability was Drought. Under the influence of this Ability, the power of Fire-type moves was boosted, while Water-type moves were weakened. At the same time, this intense sunlight triggered Mega Houndoom's Ability—Solar Power.
Solar Power was an Ability that boosted Mega Houndoom's Special Attack under harsh sunlight. The trade-off was that Houndoom itself would take damage over time.
However, things were different on Ash's side. The unique combat technique of "Deep Breathing" continuously helped Mega Houndoom heal the damage caused by Solar Power. Therefore, for Mega Houndoom, its Ability only provided a boost without any negative consequences.
And now, having withstood the baptism of Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire and absorbed some of its power using its original Flash Fire Ability, Mega Houndoom's flames had undergone a transformation.
It's important to note that because it Bond Evolved with Ash, this Mega Houndoom was different from standard Mega Houndooms. It retained its Flash Fire Ability while also gaining Solar Power.
The synergy of these dual Abilities made Mega Houndoom even more terrifying. Furthermore, after crushing Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire, Houndoom had already taken that step. Mega Houndoom was now at the Sub-Legendary tier!
"ROAR!!!"
As Mega Houndoom spewed its pitch-black flames, countless ice golems were instantly vaporized. However, Pryce wasn't the least bit angered by the destruction of his ice golems. In fact, the better Houndoom performed, the happier he became.
The stronger this Dark/Fire-type Houndoom was, the higher the chances of success when he controlled Ash to capture the Grass/Psychic-type Celebi. Therefore, Pryce ordered his Swinub, "Send in the Suicune ice golem."
"Swin."
Hearing Pryce's command, Swinub nodded. Under its control, the Suicune ice golem charged at Mega Houndoom. Seeing the Suicune ice golem approaching, Mega Houndoom let out a roar.
Subsequently, the black flames began to envelop Mega Houndoom, transforming it into the three-headed hellhound, Cerberus.
"ROAR!!!"
With a roar, the three-headed hellhound lunged at the Suicune ice golem, while the Suicune ice golem fired a Hydro Pump at it. But the moment the Hydro Pump struck the hellhound formed of black flames, it evaporated, demonstrating the terrifying temperature of those flames.
The more this happened, the more satisfied Pryce was with Mega Houndoom's capabilities. Although he considered just controlling Mega Houndoom directly, the thought that this evolutionary method might be exclusive to Ash made Pryce decide against taking the risk.
While Mega Houndoom kept the Suicune ice golem occupied, Ash's other Pokémon continuously cleared out the approaching ice golems.
Mega Charizard constantly vaporized enemies with Flamethrower. Nidoking and Nidoqueen's Precipice Blades never stopped. Realizing the Masked Man's intentions, Mega Absol slowly retreated back to Ash's side; its predictive instincts told it this was the right move. Mightyena did the same, having been warned by Absol earlier to come protect Ash. Meowth, after learning the situation from Absol, also stood guard near Ash. Pikachu used his devastating AoE skills to wipe out the ice golems.
Arbok and Honchkrow, while seemingly just clearing out ice golems, were subtly forming a protective perimeter around Ash's group. Mega Gyarados simply stayed near Ash, constantly firing Water Pumps to snipe enemies from afar.
Although Mega Aggron continuously used Flash Cannon to reduce the number of ice golems, a closer look revealed that it hadn't charged to the frontlines at all. It remained firmly planted as the vanguard of Ash's group, not moving an inch.
Meanwhile, Mega Beedrill constantly buzzed around Ash, its purpose self-evident. As for Gardevoir and Blissey, they stayed glued to Ash, refusing to budge.
Watching this scene, even Pryce, with his considerable self-control, couldn't help but find it unbearable.
"Um... I know you guys love him, but isn't it a bit much to so obviously surround and protect him?! Do I look like someone who would attack a Trainer?! He's the one who does that, isn't he?!"
Hearing Pryce say this, Ash and his team looked at him. Then, they continued:
"The barrage on the left is getting thin! More coming from the right! Don't stop attacking!"
"..." Watching Ash and the others completely ignore him, Pryce felt quite awkward. But he couldn't help it; wasn't Ash's team overdoing it a bit? Being surrounded by that many Dark-type Pokémon... Had he figured something out?
Pryce would never have guessed that the reason Absol were considered Disaster Pokémon was because they could foresee danger. Their appearances were merely to warn humans and Pokémon to be careful. And right now, Absol's premonition told it to stay close and ensure Ash's safety. Thus, Absol not only returned itself but also pulled a bunch of others back to protect Ash, Sabrina, and Green.
Inside the protective circle of his Pokémon, Ash secretly asked Sabrina, "Sabrina, how's your Alakazam doing?"
"It's fine after taking your medicine, but it'll be hard to hit that Masked Man. That Swinub of his is very strong."
"And if I create an opening for you?"
"Hmm?"
Hearing Ash say this, Sabrina was taken aback.
"You still have a plan?"
"Of course."
Saying this, Ash looked at the Zigzagoon standing on his shoulder, its eyes locked dead onto the Swinub.
