Chapter 221 - Chapter 221 A Setup

"ROAR!!!"

As Charizard's belly swelled, a powerful burst of flames blasted straight at Ash. The scorching heat radiated Charizard's raw fury.

"Interesting..."

"Woof!"

With a savage roar from Houndoom, the incoming blast of fire was effortlessly shattered into pieces with a single Bite attack. Seizing the moment Blue was stunned, Ash punched him squarely in the stomach, sending him flying backward.

"I don't know what your deal is, but if you want a fight, let's begin."

Hearing Ash's words, Blue, who had nearly lost his mind over Raticate, threw out another Poké Ball.

"Go! Rhydon! Use Drill Run!"

"Roar!"

Emerging from the Poké Ball with a roar, Rhydon spun its horn and charged directly at Houndoom. Houndoom didn't even need Ash's command; it leaped into the air to dodge, firing a Dark Pulse at Rhydon simultaneously.

But right then, Blue suddenly yelled, "Now! Attack the masked man directly!"

"Roar!"

Following Blue's order, Rhydon bypassed Houndoom and charged straight for Ash. Blue's target had never been Houndoom from the start—it was the trainer himself.

Seeing Rhydon barreling toward him, Ash didn't panic in the slightest. He calmly muttered, "Houndoom..."

"ROAR!" With a furious bark, Houndoom slammed into the charging Rhydon, knocking it off course. Immediately, Houndoom opened its jaws and clamped down viciously on Rhydon.

"Deep Bite. Until it completely loses consciousness! Show him the true power of Darkness! Bite your prey! Tear out its throat! We are the hunters! One strike, one kill!"

At Ash's words, a red glint flashed in Houndoom's eyes as its fangs sank even deeper into Rhydon's flesh.

Seeing this, Blue hurled another Poké Ball at Ash.

"Go, Arcanine! Use Flamethrower!"

Although Blue didn't know what other tricks this Sebastian guy had up his sleeve, he knew striking first was key. The moment Arcanine materialized, it fired a Flamethrower at Ash—another direct attack on the trainer.

But before Ash could say a word, another shadow bolted from the side and clamped its jaws directly onto the flames. Arcanine's fire was literally bitten to shreds by a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth. It was only then that Blue and Green saw the figure's true identity: a Mightyena.

"Awooo!!!"

Mightyena glared at Arcanine before letting out a vicious howl and pouncing on it. The terrifying speed left Arcanine no time to react, and it was pinned to the ground. Instead of using its signature Bite, Mightyena waited for Arcanine to gather flames in its mouth, then slapped Arcanine violently across the face. The strike completely dispersed the fire in Arcanine's mouth. Taking advantage of the opening, Mightyena opened its jaws and locked onto Arcanine's throat.

"Now, Arcanine! Use Flare Blitz, engulf yourself in flames and take it down! Charizard, now! Use Wing Attack on Houndoom!"

With Blue's furious shout, explosive flames erupted from Arcanine's body, completely swallowing Mightyena. Meanwhile, Blue's Charizard charged at Houndoom, its wings glowing brilliantly.

Seeing this, Houndoom tried to jump away, only to find Rhydon tightly gripping onto its body.

"Roar!" (Don't even try to escape!)

Seeing Rhydon sacrifice itself to pin Houndoom down, Blue clenched his fists. This had all been planned. He had secretly given his Pokémon their true directives moments ago: get Houndoom into close range and use Rhydon to restrain it. Though the masked man having a Mightyena was a surprise, everything was going perfectly.

"ROAR!!!"

Seeing Houndoom trapped, Charizard roared and rammed into it. But facing Charizard's Wing Attack while restrained, Houndoom flashed a sinister, savage grin.

Seeing that smile, Blue realized something was horribly wrong.

"Oh no!"

"Awoo~ ROAR!!!"

Just as Charizard's wings were about to strike, Houndoom roared. Its body erupted with an even more terrifying burst of flames, completely engulfing both Charizard and Rhydon. The pillar of fire shooting into the sky let everyone in Saffron City know something major was going down.

When the massive pillar of fire dissipated, Houndoom slowly walked back to Ash's side, stepping over the unconscious bodies of Charizard and Rhydon. On the other side, Mightyena also emerged, bathed in lingering flames. Behind it lay a knocked-out Arcanine.

"Excellent calculation. A flawless scheme, really. Using your feigned rage to make me think you'd lost your mind, while step-by-step pulling me into your trap."

Ash patted Houndoom and Mightyena's heads as he spoke. "But you forgot one crucial thing: when the gap in absolute power is too vast, any scheme can be shattered by pure, simple brute force."

Realizing his plan had been seen through, Blue dropped his angry facade and looked at Ash calmly. "It seems I'm just too weak. So, what are you going to do?" Though he spoke calmly, Blue was tightly pinching a small Poké Ball between his fingers. He was looking for an opening, a chance for his very first partner—Scyther—to sweep everyone away in a rapid retreat.

"Actually... I'm quite curious about one thing. What exactly is the deal with your Raticate?"

Hearing the man calling himself Sebastian mention Raticate, Blue nearly dropped his Poké Ball. But he held back—this opponent was simply too terrifying. He had to keep steady.

"Hmph... that's just the price I pay for being weak! My Raticate got poisoned because it was trying to protect a weakling like me. That's right, my weak self..."

Green, watching the standoff between Ash and Blue, debated whether she should make a run for it. But for some reason, she felt this 'Sebastian' was strangely familiar. Besides, it wasn't like she could just run away even if she wanted to. She could feel a group of Pokémon watching her from the shadows; one wrong move and they would strike.

While Green was conflicted, Ash listened to Blue's words, fell silent for a moment, and then snapped his fingers.

"Arbok."

At Ash's snap, a deep purple Arbok slithered out slowly from the tall grass behind Blue. Arbok gave Blue a passing glance, spat out a small orb, and then lazily slithered back to Ash's side.

Watching Arbok pass right beside him, cold sweat beaded on Blue's forehead. He had been in the danger zone from the very beginning. Blue looked down at the orb on the ground, bewildered.

"What is this...?"
