"Where is the girl? Ethan?" He recognized the voice. It wasn't her, it was Beelzebub. He knew he wasn't speaking from the depths of the dark but from the world he was in. He was clearly in human form.
Ethan's facial expression got serious, for all he knew were the grief filled consequences he could get for failing. "She's not with me yet, I'm on my way to her."
He knew Beelzebub loved short yet intelligent answers. "And the body of Rune?"
"At the same location. She's complete. No harm done or wished for."
"Hmm, you seem smarter today. As for your friend or friends. They'll be safe and out of harm's way, as long as you come back fast. Seven days can be shorter." He hung up.
Ethan dropped the phone from his ear, he didn't disrespect the voice. He knew Beelzebub could be watching him through a mirror. He remained calm.
The phone screen turned dark, she asked, "Who was that? Your boss at work, he needs to take a vacation or something. Who is he anyway? What's his name? Give him a private jet to get on." Leah teased.
"Leah before we start, why do you have parchment paper here?" He asked.
"I told you I was a witch, what part of that didn't you understand. I manifest things easily, I practice only green, white, black, astrology and supposed chaos at times." She drove out of the building surrounding.
"Okay."
"Nope. You are not doing that."
He asked, "Doing what?"
She said, "You didn't answer me. My question. Who was that?"
"Would you believe me if I told you?"
"I'm a witch, the least you could do is lie."
He exhaled before asking, "Do you believe in the existence of the princes of hell?"
She hit the brakes hard. Thankfully they were the only ones at the junction. She turned to him, "You know the princes of hell? Are you a demon? A servant? Who did you talk to? Can I talk to him or even her? Anyone at all."
"Leah I work in hell for now with the hope of getting transferred to heaven. One day. My hopes are heavily high for the transfer."
She asked again, "Answer me directly. Do you know them?"
"Yeah. I do and no I won't introduce you to them either. So stop." He said.
She removed her hands from the wheel, "Who was that on the phone?"
He uttered, "Beelzebub. Lord of the flies, the head of that union I guess."
Her eyes widened in shock. "Are you serious? You've got to be joking."
"I clearly wish I was but I can't be joking. No not now or at a time like this. Really, I'm serious."
She turned the car on again, she continued driving without another word. She knew about the rules too. "Leah? Are you alright? You got caught?"
"Nope. I will not be on my way to hell simply because of you or anyone else, I promise you that. Beelzebub is not a joke, trust me. I do all sorts of crap and that one isn't the best at being nice."
Ethan laughed. She smiled at his gesture.
It's been thirty minutes since they spoke. He chewed on a bag of chips. He asked while eating, "Would you like to know more about them?"
"I studied demonology and I can tell a few things about them. A lot of them. I just can't believe you went to hell. How did you get there?"
"I died." He said shortly.
She looked at him again, "Wait Ethan so you are saying you are a zombie or a vampire?"
"Excuse me, that's fairytale. A dead man is a dead man. I'm saying, I died and went to hell because of the life I lived here. After that I started working there."
"Aren't you supposed to burn in he till eternity, forever. I mean that's how the story went right?" She said.
"Nope. That's fairytale as well. Hell isn't what you've believed it would be. I've been there for years, although I got burnt a little bit, I got kicked out by Beelzbub for missions and trips. If I kept my end of a bargain, I would make it out alive."
"What was the bargain?" She asked.
"To be obedient, to be a slave, to be a minion."
They reached their destination.
They stepped out of the car, his phone rang again. This time it was Eric. He didn't want to make any mistakes so he spoke politely.
"My lord."
Eric replied jokingly, "Yes my servant! Are you ready for me?!"
Rune let out a little laugh from the background. Constance took the phone from Eric's hands. "Ethan what's the update?"
"First of all, Eric burn in hell. And secondly, yes we are at the address. I'm here with Leah. The blonde witch."
His honesty made her turn to him. He smiled. Constance replied, "Leah is part of a coven, the coven of the union. I think that's all of them. How did she find you? Why are you with her? Where's Karen?"
"Calm down, we are walking towards her. Leah's her dark protector."
Constance didn't understand the relationship. "Give the phone to her."
"Alright miss bossy." He handed the phone over to her.
"Hey it's Leah."
"Uh hey. Leah, how long have you been her protector?" Constance asked.
"All her life. She was sworn to me from birth."
"It's a witch contract. That means some part of Karen must be a witch or a mage?"
Leah replied, "Yeah that's it. Exactly, she's with us, she's with a hidden part of the coven."
"What? Well Thank you Leah."
"No problem." She smiled.
She passed the phone to Ethan. He said, "Any updates for me?"
Constance exhaled, "Yeah the courts were in session a while ago and things are not looking funny. Your powers may be shifting due to the full moon, also a strange weather just in case and also a gate of hell will be open soon. By midnight, stay indoors."
"Alright, thanks. How's Rune?"
Constance passed the phone to Rune. "Hey what's up? It's Rune."
