Chapter 62 - chapter fifty five

"How was it?"

"A minor road accident, nothing to worry about. There were a few things to clean up but they let me through."

"First time I hear you waited for the police so deligently."

"I did once, with Blane."

The man on the bed had been looking at us from the moment we walked in till now, not saying a thing. I had çalled for the eldest available and youngest to come over yet they were taking their sweet time.

Minutes later, while we'd made ourselves comfortable, a balding lawyer came in, looking out if breathe together with those two...both boys. The man really was endowed with great jewels, producing a bunch of men and only two females.

"I am late, sorry to have kept you waiting."

"Dad!"

"When young, my parents always loved my brother. He was the youngest but made all type of achievements. While the others and I fought, he deligently went to school, studies and made sure not to be a crook.

We'd thought they were supporting him until they died and we learnt his studies had always been through aids from others. His work was genuine, even after their death, he failed some subjects and picked up.

While we'd killed each other over land and property that he'd left to someone else.

Ironically enough, it was not theirs to begin with yet they tragically died over it and we finished each other over it. I got a job, married the big boss's daughter, he helped me out.

Some time later he got ill, there was an upheaval, he couldn't take care of himself how could he take care of us?"

"How does your life history help us?"

"Even my own children don't know this."

His voice was hoarse. He wasn't right though, I knew about this. I knew everything and Quint knew some, he lost interest. He said he didn't care about what went only, only wanted one thing.

At the end, the lawyer was the one who read the notes he had written to help relieve him. He talked about how his youngest brother had helped him and the then pregnant wife.

"Helped me get a job, helped me start a new. He was just beginning himself...had a few falls and standing up as the years went on. The he married someone who helped him out of the desperate situation.

Soon they were swimming in luxury, jealousy overcame me."

At this point, we sat up straight, looking at him, waiting for those magic words.

"I am sorry Quint!"

"You killed them?"

"I had not been doing so well and had debts pilling up and he had everything. One thing led to the other and I was hiring someone. I knew either one of us was the next of kin...it was you. But you were just a kid..."

"You admit to having committed murder?"

"You've wanted to hear that...yes, I did."

I wanted to check his reaction...he just had a blank face...I knew those words hadn't meant anything. He'd said them like he was talking about the weather...it hadn't changed a thing, he wasn't sorry about it.

"Quint?"

"Isn't it funny, after everything he just says it like the next thing happening."

Quint laughed while standing up.

"This means that he wasn't gonna say how he killed the same boss, his wife's father and was followed around. Did his wife know about it?"

"Y..you!"

"And do your kids know how their mom died? Such a nice bed time story."

"STOP IT!"

"Nice keeping in touch...hope hell's fire feels nice on you. And by the way, you should tell them that even though they are out fighting for property, none of them gets it. Maybe they'll kill you faster."

"You gave it to him?"

"Nope! Your old man has another kid...nice right?"

He walked towards the door, opened it and walked out. I followed him, whatever would follow didn't have anything to do with us...I hope.

He was dead even before we got to our cars...looking at the car Quint had come in, I couldn't help but laugh. Couldn't he have take something else? He still carried the small accident car.

"You need a check up, this wreck of a car is better of thrown out."

"Hey!"

We turned to see Blane with someone behind him wanting to bury himself and merge with him with the way he was carrying himself.

"Who's this?"

"You!"

"What?"

"I, I nearly knocked him over earlier, I called out to him but he took off. I didn't mean to okay, were you hurt, I was in a hurry."

"You need yourself checked up, we can do that together."

"I don't need a hospital."

"Right now, what I say goes..."

"Boss!"

"Is he gone already?"

"Yes boss!"

"Well, to be expected."

I turned to look at Quint who still had on a don't care written all over his face. Looks like it's shock or he really doesn't give a damn.

That night, we all came to the main house, had our meal, looking around, this was family.

We sat around the table eating junk food while drinking wine. We told stories of the past and somehow got intoxicated enough to sleep there, maybe we were tired, or just didn't want to leave each other's side. Thank heavens for the butler that covered us with blankets...it was still winter season even though there was no snow. The cold at night was enough to finish someone off so I was thankful for the insulation.

This is the end of this part. Thank you for the past month...I know it might be sloppy, let's meet on the next book.
