For those that have been reading this book all this time, thank you so much for the collections and the power stones and giving me the motivation to continue creating this world with you. It means a lot to know people are reading your book as a writer. The support means a lot too as it's my very first book. If there was something wrong with it a feedback would be nice to help me change the books to come, love you all.
blackkrystal...
It was like I had been sure we'd get ambushed at some point. The huge log in the middle was a dead give away, problem was it was place at a spot no one would have imagined.
"Don't come out and stay low."
"You aren't going out there."
"I have to or else they won't come from hiding in their own cars. Just stay here and stay low."
I got out, looking at the cars Infront of us...they must have anticipated someone would be passing this way, had they redirected the traffic though, that takes a lot of manpower and connections.
A car door was thrown open and someone stepped out.
"Where's your good wife?"
"Good wife?"
"You know, my good cousin, shouldn't he be running here to get back the shares he wanted so much as a kid?"
"You shouldn't speak nonsense Roger. He and I have never been together."
"Then you should let him out."
"I hadn't finished yet, even though we've never been, it doesn't mean I won't kill for him, were brothers."
"With all the people sorroundings you, you won't give him up?"
"Shouldn't you be at your father's deathbed asking for shares?"
It seemed that sly guy hasn't told these sons that they no longer have anything, that company was just a shell now with debts weighing it down day after day.
Quint had refused to listen to anything about that company but I had to make sure he knew before he got here or else he'd be shocked if there was a tiny place still having hope.
"Without him around, who unless us brothers will have them?"
"Like the one in jail before you?"
"He was stupid, didn't out his all in it and still got caught. I can't fail with all the manpower I threw in this ambush."
"Not enough or you'd have known he isn't with me, no one can reach him. Which means you are really out of luck."
"Will he come for you once he learns you're in trouble?"
"I don't know about that and you don't have to worry about it. Will your brothers come for you though? Get rid of the logs."
"Yes boss!"
Thank heavens for silencers and assassins huh! The gun pointing at his back must be a shock to him.
"You're involved with the underground."
"You can say that. When driving someone I love, it's not good to be covered in blood, what if he doesn't like the smell of yours?"
"Y..you...I don't have enmity with you, let me go and we forget about this."
"Sure, with a coffin to keep your old man company."
"Do you know who they are...they are the hounds, their leader won't let you off."
"The hounds?"
"Shocked, right? Unhand me now and we can talk."
"I am shocked...wonder how that old man fell, to the point of using such dirty tricks. Take him to the dungeon, looks like this time I have an old pal to meet."
I went back to the car and took off once the log moved. We need to get there before he died so that just in case I could pull those words Quint so much wanted to hear from his mouth. Who knows if he'll be able to move on if that guy doesn't say a thing...very troublesome.
"Babe!"
"Don't babe me, so everyone else also thinks you two are together huh!"
Shit, I don't even know where that had come from. Seriously, can people stop making it look like something was where it shouldn't even be?
I have a little cat tha gets jealous at the mere know of Quint and I having known each other long ago. Let alone slept in the same bed at even gone to the spa together. I thought this issues were already dealt with but it seems my guy here still holds that grudge.
"Quint while young liked someone, to him that kid was his everything until the accident that took his parents, then that kid also disappeared. The only information I have is his parents died the same day Quint's parents did.
If we find that little persimmon, we won't ever hear about him and I again...right?"
"You haven't found him all this while, why do you think you'll find him now?"
"Because I think that old man erased that kids existence from this world somehow. If we search while there's this kind of chaos..."
"You want to cause more chaos?"
"Yeah! I have wanted to do something ever since I knew these people. Just sit and help me look into the holes I missed all this while."
"There's still an if."
"Come on...I am trying here, a pat on my back would do."
He nodded then turned away as I went on driving. He was right, chaos might not help but this was the least we could do, right? A kid was lost just like that and the only lead I have was this man that death kept calling and he kept refusing.
We shouldn't have continued to cover his hospital expenses...Tut! Or maybe we should have had an altimatum to push him to speak.
But if I were him, I'd have used it to my advantage prolonging it to the end so it was one and the same thing.
But then again, getting rid of a friend's relative was a big issue, he had to hold on properly until Quint finished his fucking race and was back in the country.
"Boss!"
"Issue the warning that noone should visit him until his next of kin arrives!"
"Yes boss!"
I really want to meet this kid that has been kept behind closed doors all this time. With this if they did not know about their dad having another kid, it would be added chaos.
"It's also time some people get caught by the long arms of the law."
"Yes boss!"
Then we sit and wait. Before long the corridor that had been full of people became deserted, not before causing havoc and cursing and clashing with security. The guy was still asleep so I just looked at him from the door. He really was something huh, killed his brother and the brother's wife, Quint had been saved by his father shielding him and his mom. Which meant the last thing Quint saw was his dad's battered body that day before fainting from blood loss.
The guy was also stupid telling his son to live and not worry about whatever was happening. Not to get involved in the clashes they had... ain't that stupid?
Maybe he thought he was helping his son but the same thing could break him. All these years, Quint has had only one agenda, get those words from the man. Not even an apology, just the man admitting he was the cause of his dad's death.
And all this while the man hadn't given in. Choosing to laugh at his childishness and telling him to find something better to do.
"What next of kin?"
"Maybe it's elder brother..."
"Or Quint, if he's dead, does that mean we won't see dad?"
"You want me dead that much huh!"
It's been hours and this next of kin hasn't even shown up...he was really taking his sweet time. Quint who'd had to take several stops was here already and someone who was supposedly in the country was nowhere to be seen.
"Mr Shore, he's awake now!"
"Thank you!"
"He wants to meet a Mr. Olsen!"
I turned ro look at Quint who was leaning on the wall playing with a cigarette. However much he'd been told someone's baby didn't like them he still carried a stick on him.
"This is a hospital. Pack it away, let's go!"
The last thing he wants now is pity so I'll go hard on him and hope he isn't spiralling in there. Blane who'd been seated beside me also stood. He'd been silent all this time, looking around, likely assessing people. He was good at reading them, that I knew well. The very reason I had told him that little business.
A step towards the ward and he was hurriedly walking away telling me he's be right back and to stay with Quint. I looked at the direction he was walking towards and saw a guard already on his tail. Looks like I didn't have to worry much about it.
"What's he up to?"
"Finding you mate!"
I joked while I opened the door, the tubes, the beeping machines...I don't want to ever reach this point. Maybe it's high time I begun thinking about me in old age...if this job ever let's that time come.
