"The Duke should be here any moment… and so would Friedrich." Candace said as she adjusted the bodice of her dress.
Eve just sat down on the vanity stool and watched her friend fuss over her appearance.
"You look perfectly fine, Candace." She said for the third time that day.
But just as before, her words fell on deaf ears.
"I was thinking of wrapping a scarf since it's cold outside, but a scarf would-"
Eve stood up abruptly and walked to her.
"You look beautiful, Candace. I don't see what you're fretting over… except you plan to woo my betrothed, that is…" As she spoke, she placed her two hands on Candace's shoulders.
Bright colour stained her cheeks. "Even I would not sink that low, Eve. I just want to look my best."
For what exactly? Eve wanted to ask, but she swallowed the question and smiled instead.
Then there was the sound of neighing horses coming from outside.
It was just past noon and the sky outside was very bright.
