Chapter 1 - Education Through Poetry

This is a poetry collection for English Literature Terms

Archaism: Shakespeare showing up in a modern action film, talking in ancient language, and confusing everyone.

Characterization: Oh no, it feels like someone is peeping up on me when I sleep. Why is that 'clock' going tic tock tic tock in the darkness? Why is the 'Book pages' flipping without the wind? Why is that 'doll' looking towards my direction with that creepy smile of its? HELP! They are all alive, they are all alive, just like 'characters' coming out from a horror story.

Conflict: A dramatic battle between husband and wife, or a showdown between gods and mortals—basically, everything in life is a conflict.

Consonance: The annoying repetition of consonant sounds that just won't stop—like an endless "Hickory Dickory Dock."

Couplet: That one guy who always rhymes everything in two lines to make his point sound important.

Catastrophe: Losing your answer sheet in the river—utter disaster!

Chorus: That one girl singing in the bathtub to make everything relaxing and chill.

Classicism: The pretentious scholarly guy whose art is all about Greek and Roman standards, and you just want to punch his shiny teeth away.

Circumlocution/Periphrasis: That person who talks endlessly, describing a book in such detail that you can't even understand they mean "book."

Comic Relief: A headache worthy friend who just can't shut his damn mouth in serious moments. Always messing up the atmosphere.

Connotation: I am such a bird to be able to answer the questions so freely and with flying colors.

Conceit: Trying to explain something so complex, it's like the difference between heaven and earth.

Chiasmus: "Crispy is Chiasmus, and Chiasmus is crispy"—a perfectly symmetrical and flipped sentence.

Diction: The dude who takes forever to organize his words but still sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

Double Entendre: That one dude who talks in Chinese.

Didactic: The senior who can't stop offering unsolicited advice about everything, leaving you to just daydream in response.

Epigram: Oh, don't know what it means. Cause the meaning is so easy to spot on that I sometimes get 'lost' looking for it.

Epigraph: This answer is about how to answer this question. Continue reading ahead.

Euphemism: Softening a harsh reality like "I'm gonna pass away answering this question" instead of just saying you're dying.

Ellipsis: "Say something"

"..."

"Come on, didn't you want to say something"

"..."

"How about talking in sign language instead?"

Epiphany: The genius who magically aces every test as if God is feeding him the answers.

Epithet: It's "Question the Hardest" out there. I don't know how to face it.

Exposition: That part of the story where your embarrassing past gets brought up and you just want to shut it down.

Enjambment: That guy who can't finish his sentence and just keeps talking over multiple lines, but somehow it still makes sense.

End-stopped: The guy who says exactly what needs to be said in one go—straight to the point, no nonsense.

Foreshadowing: The sneaky fortune teller who gives you hints about the future, but you're too busy to realize them.

Figures of Speech: I don't know what Hickory dickory fck this is. Ah! Don't mind my rudeness, that was just a figure of speech.

Hamartia: Your ignorance about asking me this dumb question might bring down your downfall.

Hyperbole: A girl running away in tears, exaggerating a small rock falling as "Oh no, the sky is falling apart, the earth is darkening out, the end is coming, how do I escape around?"
