"Welcome back to the land of the living."
I opened my eyes to the beautiful doctor glaring at me.
Even with her hair tied in an untidy bun, she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She was studying my chart, talking to Fei.
I didn't like that he was smiling at something she said.
But when she smiled… two small dimples peeked out. The light twinkled in her eyes.
Something stirred in me.
I hadn't felt this way about anyone before, especially not a stranger I'd just met.
And I definitely didn't like her smiling at another man.
Even if it was Fei.
"I'm the patient," I said coolly. "Not my friend. You should focus on me… Doctor."
She turned slowly. And just stared at me without saying a word. She held my gaze without blinking. I didn't look away. I liked the subtle flash of mischievousness dancing in her eyes.
She tilted her head, slightly studying me. I am used to women staring at me. I have the looks. It is something I have always known... but most women would have looked away by now.
She didn't.
And it was… sexy.
Then, she leaned closer and placed a hand on my forehead.
"You are not running a fever," she said calmly.
I shook my head. "No. I am much better. I am a very strong man."
"I know you're better," she replied, crossing her arms. "I am your doctor. So why do you keep talking like you lost your mind?"
"You can't speak to a patient like that?" Dr. Chen gasped.
I blinked. I noticed he was in the room for the first time.
"My head is fine," I said smoothly. "I just want to know the name of the doctor who saved my life," I said, lowering my voice slightly. "You are so fine, my brain is working overtime. Who should go out sometime?... eh?"
She physically recoiled.
Actually shuddered.
Then, she shoved the chart into Dr. Chen's hands.
"He is all yours. I stand him."
She stormed out, but halfway to the door, she turned back and looked at me again in disbelief.
Then she left.
Did she just look at me with disgust?
"Uh… I…" Dr. Chen glanced toward the corridor where Dr. Sang had disappeared, then back at me. "I'll come check on you later."
And before I could say anything else. He also fled.
"BahaHAHAHAAAAAHA!"
I turned slowly, rolling my eyes.
Fei was clutching his chest, tears streaming down his face.
"And what is so funny?" I asked coldly.
"Nothing," he wheezed.
I was horrified.
Why did I say that to her? Fei won't let me live this down, and the doctor thinks I am a pervert!
"Just leave," I muttered.
He was still laughing.
"I have never seen a woman run so fast from you before. Let me enjoy this," he said, walking over to my side of the bed.
"Whatever." I rolled my eyes.
"Don't be sad because you finally met the one woman who won't fall for your charm." He said softly, but I knew he was laughing at me.
"I can get any woman I want," I shot back.
"Just not the good doctor." He replied casually. "Some women like a real man… like me."
"You?" I eyed him suspiciously.
"Yeah, Dr. Sang invited me on a date," he said with a devishlish smirk.
My blood froze. My eyes almost popped out of my socket.
"She… what?"
He leaned in close, inches from my face.
"When a woman wants you, you'll know. They take the initiative," he smirked. "So, I said yes."
She is mine. The thought growled inside my head before I could stop it.
Fei's smile widened.
Something in his eyes made him made me stop and look at him anew.
"You won't go after a girl your best friend likes, right? Only a bastard would do that." His eyes locked onto mine. "You're not a bastard, are you, Lin Wen?"
I opened my mouth.
Nothing came out.
I turned away. "Leave me alone."
"Hey. You didn't answer me."
"Why would I like a woman that you like?" I scoffed. "We have different preferences."
"Good," he said, straightening. "I feel much better now."
I closed my eyes.
"When am I getting discharged? I want to get the hell out of this place."
"Tomorrow," Fei replied, barely hiding a laugh.
"Get my discharge papers today."
"Can't," Fei smacked his lips and continued. "Machete called."
My eyes snapped open. "What?" Shit.
"I told him you had surgery. He said you'd better not leave this time without a doctor's order."
"You did what?"
"And…" Fei grinned. "We're on leave."
The anger disappeared from my face. Machete gave us leave. Just like that?
"We are on vacation? Really?" I asked, holding my breath.
Fei nodded enthusiastically, almost jumping.
"YES!" I shouted, then winced from the pain in my side.
"We can drink!" Fei cheered. "We can party. We can do anything we want!"
"Yes, we can drink," I said excitedly. "We will get so, so drunk."
"You just had surgery, and you are planning to drink?"
The temperature in the room dropped.
Doctor Sang stood at the door.
I shook my head immediately, "I wasn't going to actually—"
She cuts in.
"--You are the first patient I have had to re-stitch in the same place because he reopened his wound in less than twenty-four hours," she said flatly. "Are you trying to make it three times?"
"No, you misunderstand. That is just how men talk," I tried to explain.
She didn't look convinced.
"And you," she said coldly, turning to Fei. "I thought you were different. He is your friend, and you are encouraging him?"
Fei's head dropped instantly. He looked almost ashamed.
"But, I wasn't," he said softly. "He suggested it. I was about to tell him it was wrong."
My jaw dropped.
Doctor Sang slowly turned back toward me. She looked at me like I was the Devil incarnate.
"He… He…" I pointed at Fei, speechless.
"He what?!" Dr. Sang snapped. "Are you seriously trying to pin this on him now?"
"But he was the one who said we should drink!" I protested. "It was seriously him."
She shook her head in disgust. "Men like you are the worst!"
Behind her, Fei lifted his head. He was laughing at me.
My eyes darkened.
I might actually… kill him.
