Chapter 21 - Chapter 22: The Way Home

Morning arrived slowly at the Dark Queen's villa.

The sky outside was pale and quiet.

Feng woke up in a large black-themed guest room. For a moment he forgot where he was.

Then the memories of the night before returned.

The kidnapping.

The fight.

The thousands of people greeting Mengmeng.

The terrifying power she held.

He sat up slowly.

"…So that wasn't a dream."

Just then the door opened.

Mengmeng walked in.

She was dressed normally again, calm and elegant like the Mengmeng he knew at home.

"You're awake," she said.

Feng nodded.

"Yeah."

She glanced at the bandage on his arm.

"How does it feel?"

"Better."

There was a short silence.

Then she said simply,

"We're going back."

A few minutes later the black cars prepared outside the villa again.

But this time Feng noticed something.

Everyone who passed Mengmeng lowered their heads respectfully.

"Queen."

"Boss."

Feng still couldn't get used to hearing those words.

He looked at her while they walked toward the car.

"So… this is your real world."

Mengmeng opened the car door.

"It's one part of it."

Feng sat inside beside her.

The convoy slowly left the giant gates behind.

For a while neither of them spoke.

The city roads slowly appeared again.

Normal life.

Normal people.

As if the world they had just left didn't exist.

Finally Feng broke the silence.

"You saved me."

Mengmeng looked out the window.

"Yes."

"Thank you."

She didn't respond.

Instead she asked quietly,

"Are you afraid of me now?"

Feng blinked.

"…Why would I be?"

"You saw everything last night."

"The underworld."

"My people."

"My power."

Feng looked at her carefully.

Then he gave a small smile.

"I already knew you were dangerous."

Mengmeng raised an eyebrow slightly.

"When?"

"The first day we met."

She almost smiled.

Almost.

An hour later the Gu mansion gates appeared again.

The cars stopped.

The moment Feng and Mengmeng stepped out—

The front door suddenly opened.

His mother ran outside first.

"Feng!"

She immediately hugged him.

"Are you alright?!"

His sister rushed over next.

"We were so worried!"

Even his father looked relieved.

"We couldn't reach either of you."

His grandmother walked forward calmly.

Her sharp eyes quickly examined both of them.

"You're both safe."

Then she smiled slightly.

"That's good."

No one asked too many questions.

Everyone was simply relieved.

They believed Feng and Mengmeng had somehow escaped the kidnappers together.

Only two people in the entire mansion knew the real truth.

Feng.

And Mengmeng.

Later that evening…

Inside their room, Feng sat quietly on the bed.

Mengmeng stood near the window like usual.

The sunlight slowly faded outside.

Feng watched her silently.

Now that he knew her true identity…

Everything about her felt even more fascinating.

More powerful.

More mysterious.

He leaned back and sighed softly.

How did I end up marrying someone like her…?

Across the room Mengmeng spoke calmly.

"Stop staring."

Feng laughed quietly.

"Can't help it."

She turned slightly.

"Why?"

Feng thought for a second.

Then he answered honestly.

"Because my wife happens to be the most powerful woman in the city."

Mengmeng didn't reply.

But for the first time in a while—

The cold distance between them felt slightly smaller.
