Chapter 23 - Chapter 24: The Place No One Expected

The phone call lasted only a few seconds.

When Mengmeng ended it, the living room was silent.

Everyone looked at her.

Feng spoke first.

"What did they say?"

Mengmeng thought for a moment before answering.

"They confirmed something."

Her voice was calm but serious.

"The attackers were not targeting the Gu family."

The room went quiet.

"Then who were they targeting?" Feng's father asked.

Mengmeng didn't answer immediately.

Instead she said something else.

"They also confirmed the messages are still being sent."

Feng frowned.

"You mean someone is still tracking us?"

"Yes."

"And the strange part," she continued, "is that my hackers cannot find them."

Everyone looked confused.

"Your hackers?" Feng's mother asked.

Mengmeng simply nodded.

"They checked phones, networks, cameras, everything."

"And still nothing."

That meant one thing.

Whoever was behind this…

Was extremely careful.

Or extremely powerful.

Mengmeng stood up.

"I've made a decision."

Everyone looked at her.

"You're all coming with me."

"Where?" Feng's father asked.

"To my house."

Feng blinked slightly.

Her house.

But he knew exactly which house she meant.

The underworld villa.

The safest place in the entire city.

The others didn't know that.

They only assumed it was another house she owned somewhere nearby.

Feng's mother nodded.

"If it's safer, then we should go."

His grandmother agreed immediately.

"Yes. Staying together is better."

Only Feng understood what was really happening.

But he stayed silent.

An hour later several black cars left the Gu mansion.

No one spoke much during the ride.

Feng's sister looked curious.

"So Mengmeng, where exactly is this house?"

"It's still in the city," Mengmeng replied calmly.

"That's all you need to know."

The cars drove for nearly forty minutes.

Finally they stopped in front of massive iron gates.

Feng's parents stared.

"This… is your house?"

The gates slowly opened.

And the convoy entered.

The moment they stepped out of the cars…

Feng's family froze.

The enormous villa stretched across the dark hill.

Tall black stone buildings.

Huge courtyards.

Dark elegant architecture.

It looked less like a house…

And more like the headquarters of a powerful empire.

"This place is huge," Feng's father whispered.

But the real shock came when they stepped inside.

Rows upon rows of people stood across the enormous courtyard.

Thousands of them.

All wearing black.

The moment Mengmeng appeared—

They all lowered their heads.

"Boss."

"Boss."

The voices echoed across the entire villa.

Some of them respectfully greeted Feng's family.

"Mr. Gu."

"Mrs. Gu."

"Welcome."

But every single one of them addressed only one person as Boss.

Never by name.

Never as Mengmeng.

Feng's mother looked confused.

"Why are they calling you that?"

His father looked even more serious.

"…What exactly is this place?"

His grandmother slowly turned to Feng.

"I think you should explain."

Feng sighed quietly.

He knew this moment would come eventually.

"Mengmeng…" he began.

"…isn't just a business CEO."

Everyone looked at him.

Feng continued calmly.

"She's the leader of the entire underworld in this city."

Silence.

Complete silence.

His mother's eyes widened.

"What?"

His father stared at Mengmeng.

"…You're serious?"

Feng nodded.

"She's known as the Dark Queen."

His grandmother looked stunned.

Feng's sister, however, looked amazed.

"That's actually so cool."

Everyone turned to her.

"What?" she shrugged. "It is!"

Feng then told them the rest.

About the kidnapping.

About the warehouse.

About how Mengmeng had rescued him.

When he finished speaking, the room remained quiet.

His parents were still processing everything.

His grandmother looked thoughtful.

And Feng's sister was still impressed.

Meanwhile Mengmeng stood calmly like always.

As if none of this surprised her.

Just then one of her men rushed toward her.

He lowered his head.

"Boss."

Mengmeng turned slightly.

"What is it?"

The man looked serious.

"We received another message."

Everyone in the room immediately went quiet again.

Mengmeng's eyes narrowed slightly.

Because this meant something important.

Whoever was behind those attacks…

Had somehow found them again.
