Chapter 7 - 7

Academy Arc – Lightning Speed vs Precision

The Challenge Begins

The training field had never been this quiet before.

Twenty students stood around the sparring ring carved into the academy grounds.

Everyone knew this match mattered.

Not officially.

But symbolically.

The number one student versus the most competitive rival in the class.

Instructor Tetsuma stepped between them.

"Rules are simple."

"No lethal strikes."

"No weapons."

"Taijutsu only."

His eyes moved between the two boys.

"Begin when I signal."

Raizen stood calmly with his hands relaxed at his sides.

Across from him, Daigo rolled his shoulders with excitement.

"Ready to lose your uniform?"

Raizen tilted his head slightly.

"You'll have to take it first."

Daigo grinned.

"Gladly."

Instructor Tetsuma raised his hand.

"Begin."

The moment his hand dropped, Daigo moved.

But it didn't look like normal speed.

His muscles tightened as faint sparks of lightning chakra flickered along his arms and legs.

Inside Raizen's mind Astra reacted instantly.

"Lightning chakra detected."

"Technique identified: Raikose Clan nervous-system acceleration."

The technique allowed members of the Raikose Clan to stimulate their muscles using lightning chakra.

The result?

Explosive speed.

And Daigo closed the distance almost instantly.

First Impact

Raizen barely raised his guard in time.

Daigo's punch slammed into his forearms.

The force pushed Raizen back several steps.

The watching students gasped.

"That was fast!"

Inside Raizen's mind Astra spoke quickly.

"Opponent speed exceeds host by approximately 27%."

Raizen steadied his stance.

"Yeah… I noticed."

Daigo didn't wait.

He attacked again.

This time with a spinning kick.

Raizen ducked.

But the kick still grazed his shoulder.

The crowd murmured again.

For the first time since entering the academy…

Raizen looked pressured.

Adapting

Raizen exhaled slowly.

Daigo rushed again, faster than before.

Inside Raizen's mind Astra calculated rapidly.

"Pattern detected."

"Opponent relies on linear acceleration."

"Prediction model forming."

Raizen smiled faintly.

"Then let's test it."

Daigo launched another lightning-fast punch.

But this time Raizen stepped slightly earlier than expected.

He redirected the strike just enough to throw off Daigo's balance.

Not a counterattack.

Just disruption.

Daigo frowned.

"Huh?"

The fight continued.

Daigo remained faster.

His lightning-enhanced strikes forced Raizen onto the defensive.

But slowly…

Raizen began adjusting.

Each time Daigo attacked, Raizen moved just a little earlier.

Just a little smarter.

Inside his mind Astra updated predictions constantly.

"Reaction timing improving."

"Opponent attack rhythm becoming predictable."

Daigo grew frustrated.

"Stop dodging!"

Raizen shrugged slightly while stepping away from another kick.

"You're the one missing."

The class laughed quietly.

Daigo's temper flared.

Lightning chakra surged around Daigo's legs again.

He dashed forward with his fastest attack yet.

A straight punch aimed directly at Raizen's chest.

Inside his mind Astra spoke quickly.

"Maximum acceleration detected."

"Counter window: 0.32 seconds."

Raizen stepped forward instead of backward.

Daigo's eyes widened slightly.

At the last second Raizen redirected the punch with his palm and rotated his body.

Daigo's momentum carried him past.

Raizen delivered a sharp strike to Daigo's ribs followed by a controlled tap to the back of his neck.

Instructor Tetsuma raised his hand instantly.

"Stop."

The match ended.

For a moment the field was completely silent.

Then the students erupted into whispers.

"He beat Daigo?"

"How did he do that?"

"Daigo was way faster!"

Even Kento from the Goruma Clan looked impressed.

Daigo stood frozen.

Then slowly turned around.

"…You tricked me."

Raizen shrugged.

"You attacked the same way every time."

Daigo groaned.

"Ugh."

But after a moment he laughed.

"…You're still annoying."

Aikari's Perspective

Across the field, Aikari watched the fight with wide eyes.

She knew her brother's speed better than anyone.

Yet Raizen had adapted to it mid-fight.

That wasn't normal for a six-year-old.

She felt her cheeks warm slightly.

He's even cooler than I thought…

Instructor Tetsuma's Assessment

Instructor Tetsuma stepped forward.

"Well done."

He looked at Daigo.

"Excellent speed."

Then he turned to Raizen.

"Excellent analysis."

His eyes moved across the entire class.

"This is why combat training matters."

He pointed toward Raizen.

"He didn't win because he was stronger."

"Or faster."

"He won because he understood his opponent."

The lesson was clear.

Inside Raizen's mind Astra spoke softly.

"Host performance exceeded prediction parameters."

Raizen stretched his arms.

"Not bad for the first week."

"Affirmative."

As the students began leaving the field, Daigo walked beside Raizen.

"I'm still going to beat you."

Raizen smiled slightly.

"I'm counting on it."

Because rivals made training more interesting.

And in the elite academy of Kumogakure…

Only the strongest minds and bodies would survive.
