Chapter 6 - 6

Academy Arc – The First Week

Foundations Before Glory

The first week at the academy passed quickly.

Instructor Tetsuma wasted no time easing the class into their training.

From the very first day, the schedule was demanding.

Morning sessions focused on physical conditioning.

Endurance runs.

Strength training.

Agility drills.

Balance exercises.

The instructors emphasized something repeatedly.

"Before you learn powerful techniques, you must build the body that can use them."

For many students, the training was exhausting.

For Raizen, it felt familiar.

His mother had already drilled similar routines into him for years.

Inside his mind Astra quietly confirmed the benefits.

"Muscular development progressing as expected."

Raizen continued running laps with steady breathing.

Unlike some students who sprinted early and collapsed later, he kept a consistent pace.

Efficiency over flash.

Classroom Theory

Afternoons were spent in classrooms studying theory.

The curriculum reflected Kumogakure's ambition to dominate the shinobi world.

Students studied:

Advanced mathematics for trajectory calculations.

Geography and international politics.

The economies of different nations.

Enemy village intelligence.

Chakra theory and elemental affinity.

Survival knowledge.

Poisons.

Medicinal plants.

Instructor Tetsuma made something very clear on the second day.

"Shinobi who rely only on strength die young."

"Shinobi who think survive."

Raizen appreciated that philosophy.

Astra especially liked it.

"Educational structure aligns with optimal shinobi development."

Chakra Control Training

Every evening the class practiced chakra control.

Walking across vertical posts.

Balancing leaves with controlled chakra flow.

Maintaining steady chakra output.

Many students struggled.

Chakra was difficult to regulate precisely at such a young age.

But Raizen performed above average.

Not the absolute best.

But consistently among the top.

Instructor Tetsuma noticed.

The academy wasn't just a training ground.

It was also a social battlefield.

Clans naturally grouped together.

Strength-oriented students gravitated toward Kento from the Goruma Clan.

Students fascinated by lightning techniques often gathered around Sora from the Kaminari Clan.

The quieter students sometimes sat near Mei of the Fubuki Clan.

Raizen didn't attach himself to any group.

Instead he observed.

Learning personalities.

Identifying rivalries.

Inside his mind Astra commented frequently.

"Social alliances forming."

"Host should maintain neutral position."

Raizen agreed.

But sometimes…

Situations required involvement.

One afternoon during weapons practice, two students began arguing over training equipment.

One accused the other of cheating during shuriken drills.

Voices grew louder.

Several students started gathering around.

Raizen watched quietly from the side.

Inside his mind Astra asked:

"Intervention recommended?"

Raizen considered.

"Not yet."

The argument escalated until one student shoved the other.

That was when Raizen stepped forward.

"Both of you are wasting time."

They turned toward him.

"Mind your own business," one snapped.

Raizen simply pointed at the instructor approaching from the far end of the field.

"If you keep fighting, neither of you will be allowed to train today."

Both boys froze.

They hadn't noticed the instructor yet.

A few seconds later Tetsuma arrived.

The argument ended instantly.

Raizen quietly returned to training.

Inside his mind Astra spoke.

"Intervention successful."

Raizen shrugged.

"Also convenient."

Throughout the week, Aikari from the Raikose Clan found herself paying increasing attention to Raizen.

He wasn't loud.

He didn't boast.

But he consistently performed well in every subject.

And more importantly…

He seemed difficult to fully understand.

One afternoon during a break between classes, she walked over to him.

"You're always observing everyone."

Raizen looked up from the scroll he was reading.

"Habit."

"From where?"

"Training."

Aikari sat beside him.

"You trained a lot before the academy?"

"Some."

She smiled slightly.

"That's a vague answer."

Raizen closed the scroll.

"Most good answers are."

Aikari laughed softly.

There it was again.

That calm mysteriousness.

He never said too much.

But he never avoided conversation either.

It made her want to learn more.

Layer by layer.

Daigo's Frustration

Across the courtyard, Daigo watched the interaction.

He crossed his arms.

"That guy…"

One of his friends asked,

"You still planning to fight him?"

"Of course."

His jaw tightened.

"I'm going to prove the entrance exam was a fluke."

Inside Raizen's mind Astra commented.

"Aikari Raikose displays increased social engagement with host."

Raizen smirked.

"You're analyzing that too?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Social dynamics influence mission success."

Raizen laughed quietly.

"Fair point."

At the end of the first week, Instructor Tetsuma gathered the class on the training field again.

"Today we continue combat evaluations."

Students immediately grew excited.

The instructor scanned the class roster.

Then he spoke the names everyone expected.

"Daigo Raikose."

Daigo stepped forward instantly.

Finally.

The instructor's eyes shifted.

"Raizen."

A ripple of excitement moved through the class.

Aikari leaned forward slightly.

She had been waiting for this.

Inside his mind Astra spoke calmly.

"Opponent specialization: speed."

"Lightning-enhanced muscle activation likely."

Raizen walked toward the sparring ring.

"Good."

Daigo cracked his knuckles and grinned.

"Let's see if you're really number one."

Lightning flickered faintly in the storm clouds above Kumogakure.

Because now the class would witness something important.

Lightning speed…

Versus

Precision and strategy.

And only one of them would walk away with their pride intact.
