Chapter 3 - chapter 3:dinner alone

As she slowly opened her eyes again, the memories inside her mind began to settle.

"So… this girl's name is Shen Yueling."

She whispered the name quietly.

From the memories she received, the Shen family was one of the four largest families in City A. Not a newly rich family, but an old and noble one with deep roots.

Old money. Old reputation.

Her father was Shen Jingchuan, the CEO of Shen Enterprises.

From the memories, he seemed like a very calm and rational man. Always composed. Always strict. The kind of person who rarely showed emotions.

In fact, Shen Yueling could not remember a single time when he lost control of his emotions.

Not once.

Her mother, Su Zhishan, also came from a prominent family. She was elegant, intelligent, and always behaved like the perfect lady of high society.

She treated Shen Yueling kindly.

But that kindness always felt… distant.

Polite.

Controlled.

There was no real warmth in it.

No pampering. No motherly affection. Nothing overly loving like how parents usually treat their only daughter.

Everything was maintained at a careful distance.

"This family is really complicated…" she muttered.

And cold.

Very cold.

She scratched her head lightly and sighed.

"What exactly did I ask for before coming here?"

If she remembered correctly, she had asked the old man for a rich life. A comfortable one.

A life where she could relax, slack off, and enjoy herself without worrying about money.

But looking at the situation now…

It seemed her peaceful days were already over.

"The old man really sent me here to become a fake rich girl…"

From the memories, this family cared more about reputation than anything else.

Just as she was lost in thought—

Knock knock.

Someone knocked on the door.

A maid's voice came from outside.

"Miss, dinner is ready. you should come downstairs."

Shen Yueling blinked.

"…Dinner already?"

She turned her head toward the window and realized the sky outside had already darkened.

"So it's night already…"

She slowly got up and walked out of the room.

The Shen mansion was quiet as usual.

As she walked down the long staircase, she looked around the mansion.

It was huge.

Spacious halls, tall ceilings, expensive decorations everywhere.

"Seriously… this place really screams money," she muttered quietly.

Soon she reached the dining room.

Before entering, she paused for a moment.

"What should I even say to them…?"

After all, those two people were technically her new father and mother.

But when she stepped inside the dining room—

She immediately realized something.

The seats at the table were empty.

Her father wasn't there.

Her mother wasn't there either.

Only the servants were standing nearby.

One of them spoke politely.

"Master and Madam are busy tonight. They asked Miss to have dinner first."

Shen Yueling blinked again.

"…Of course."

From the memories, this seemed to happen quite often.

Her parents were always busy.

Sometimes they joined dinner.

Sometimes they didn't.

She walked over and sat in her seat quietly.

The large dining table felt even bigger with only one person sitting there.

She was the only daughter in the family.

No brothers.

No sisters.

Just her.

"…If I knew things would turn out like this," she muttered under her breath, "I would have argued with that old man more before coming here."

Then she suddenly frowned.

"Wait… where is that damn system anyway?"

The old man said he would send help.

But until now—nothing had appeared.

No voice.

No system.

Nothing.

"Tch… unreliable old man."

She sighed and started eating.

While eating, she continued sorting through the memories in her head.

Actually, the incident that revealed her identity was quite simple.

Not some dramatic accident like in novels.

No car crash.

No kidnapping.

No secret conspiracy.

Nothing like that.

The original Shen Yueling had simply studied too hard.

Her body was already weak.

But she pushed herself too much with her studies.

Eventually she collapsed from exhaustion and was taken to the hospital.

During the examination, the doctor checked her blood type.

And that was when the problem appeared.

Her blood type didn't match either of her parents.

At first they thought it was a mistake.

So they tested again.

Same result.

After that, they conducted a DNA test.

And the truth came out.

She wasn't their daughter.

"That's it?"

Shen Yueling blinked.

"…That's how the whole drama started?"

She couldn't help but laugh quietly.

"Wow. What a ridiculous way to discover something like that."

In novels, such secrets were usually revealed through huge dramatic events.

But here?

Just over-studying and fainting.

"Honestly… that sounds a bit silly," she muttered.

By the time she finished dinner, her mind had already sorted through most of the memories.

She stood up and returned to her room.

Once inside, she sat down on the bed and closed her eyes.

"Alright…"

"Let's review these memories properly."

From what she understood so far, one thing was clear.

The real daughter of the Shen family had not been found yet.

And strangely enough, it didn't seem like the typical intentional baby-swap drama that appeared in novels.

No one knew how it happened.

It just… happened.

She opened her eyes slowly.

"…This situation is really strange."

For now, there was only one thing she could do.

"First, let's go through all the memories carefully."

"Maybe I missed something."
