Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 — The Forest of Trials

Chapter 3 — The Forest of Trials

Hogwarts — Age of the Founders, Year 1

The first light of dawn filtered through the ancient windows of the dungeons, but I was already moving. Today, the pit of snakes had been replaced by something far more unpredictable: the Hogwarts Forest, teeming with creatures both magical and mundane.

Slytherin walked beside me, silent, his presence both a challenge and a reassurance.

"Your trial begins," he said quietly. "Not serpents this time… creatures that test mind, body, and spirit."

I nodded. My hands itched to feel the magical energy of every living being around me, to understand instincts as clearly as thoughts.

Stage 2 — The Forest Creatures

The clearing was alive:

Mooncalves, shy and blinking in the early light, their pale skin shimmering

Forest lizards, quick and cunning, their scales reflecting faint magic

Winged serpents, gliding between branches, curious and wary

I took a deep breath. The basilisk egg below pulsed faintly as if aware that the trials were intensifying.

I began with the Mooncalves. Kneeling on the dew-soaked grass, I whispered in Parseltongue:

"Calm… see me… we are not enemies."

The Mooncalves froze, tilting heads as if listening, then slowly approached. One brushed against my shoulder.

"Who… issss this…?" the basilisk thought from inside the egg."Not… like the others… calm… patient…?"

Winged Serpents

Next, I turned to the winged serpents. They hissed, wings beating with sharp winds. I extended a hand and spoke:

"Do not fear… we move together… learn together."

One serpent hovered closer, testing me, and then another. Slytherin's eyes gleamed in approval:

"You see… leadership is not domination. Fear only breaks bonds."

The serpents slowly settled around me, forming a protective circle. The lesson was clear: command without force, guide without threat.

Purification Cycles

After the forest trial, Slytherin introduced me to the purification cycles, designed to strengthen magical creatures while aligning them to my energy.

"Bones, blood, essence… all must be harmonized," he explained."This is preparation for the basilisk. If it is to survive, it must inherit not just power… but wisdom."

I drew the runes on the forest floor. A soft hum rose as the creatures absorbed the magic. Even the basilisk egg pulsed, brighter this time, a tiny, impatient heartbeat of awareness.

"I… feel… power… but… this one… I do not hate… yet…"

Hogwarts Observes

Word of my forest trials spread quickly. Students gathered at the edge of the clearing, some hidden, some openly curious:

Gryffindors whispered fearfully: "It's unnatural… he talks to beasts like a god."

Ravenclaws studied from the trees, fascinated: "He's conducting behavioral experiments… with magic… incredible."

Hufflepuffs watched quietly, protective of the creatures, unsure whether to intervene.

Slytherins smirked, murmuring approval: "He is shaping the future… and we are watching the future."

Even some magical creatures outside the trial watched from shadows: centaurs, hippogriffs, and forest sprites, sensing that a new power was rising in the castle.

The Egg Speaks

By the end of the day, the basilisk egg pulsed violently. Its thoughts had begun to take shape:

"This… one… does not command… does not dominate… guides… teaches… I… trust… perhaps?"

I knelt and whispered, feeling the pulse:

"Yes… my child… observe… learn… grow… with me."

The connection deepened. For the first time, the basilisk recognized me not as an enemy, but as a mentor—a partner.

Slytherin's gaze lingered.

"Few have ever forged such a bond before the egg hatches. You are extraordinary… and dangerous."

I allowed myself a small smile. This was only the beginning.
