I never really looked forward to school.
I always thought it was just a waste of time.
To me, it was only a side job to make my mom happy.
But sometimes… I wondered if I even wanted to do this "side job" anymore.
Riiingggg
My eyes snapped open. I'm thinking too much. I reached out to hit the alarm.
It stopped.
Feeling sweaty, I instinctively touched my forehead.
I think… I might have a fever.
The school bell rang.
I was at Furukiwa High School.
I walked down the hallway, my body feeling heavier with every step.
When I reached my classroom, I opened the door.
"Haruto Aoyama, you're late!" my teacher said, her gaze intimidating.
"I'm sorry," I muttered.
I was looking for my seat when a girl suddenly pinched my uniform to stop me.
"Rina? What's up?" I asked.
She looked up at me, her eyes sharp.
"You have a fever, don't you?"
I was about to answer when the teacher interrupted,
"Haruto! Sit!"
I grabbed my notebook and pen, taking my seat. Beside me, a boy tried to get my attention.
"Hey, Haruto. Here's my notes from the lessons you missed earlier."
"Thanks, Riku," I replied in a low, tired tone.
As I took notes, I glanced out the window. A single leaf drifted across the sky.
Then, suddenly, the teacher called my name.
"Haruto! Solve this question on the board."
Normally, I wouldn't be able to answer, but for some reason, my mind just… clicked.
I walked to the board and wrote down the answer.
The teacher's eyes widened.
"Uh… that's correct. Go back to your seat."
I returned to my seat, and Riku tapped my shoulder.
"Nice! You looked cool up there. But… you're burning up!"
"Thanks," I muttered.
