The Wolf in the Shadows
The police station was cold, but Lin Yue felt hotter than the sun. She sat in the interrogation room, her hands cuffed, her eyes red from crying. The door opened, and a detective walked in.
"Lin Yue," he said. "We have a lot of questions."
"I didn't do anything," she lied, her voice trembling. "I was just... I was just looking for my sister."
"Your sister knows you were looking for the offshore accounts," the detective said. "We found the files. We found the transfer records. And we found the emails."
Lin Yue's heart sank. She had thought she was careful. She had thought she was invisible. But Su Qingwan had seen everything.
"Where is Gu Yanchen?" she asked.
"He's not involved," the detective said. "But we will be asking him questions."
Lin Yue smiled. It was a cold, cruel smile. "He won't be involved. He's too smart for that."
She knew Gu Yanchen. He was a master of manipulation. He would never leave a paper trail. He would use her as a shield.
"Get me a lawyer," she said. "And get me a phone call."
The detective hesitated. "You don't get a phone call."
"I do," Lin Yue said. "I'm a Su. And I have rights."
She knew she had to call Gu Yanchen. She had to tell him what happened. She had to tell him that Su Qingwan was coming for him.
But she didn't know that Su Qingwan was already waiting.
The Strategy Meeting
The Jiang Group headquarters was a fortress of glass and steel. It stood tall in the center of the city, a symbol of power and wealth.
Su Qingwan sat in the conference room, her laptop open. Jiang Ye stood at the head of the table, looking at the financial reports.
"Gu Yanchen is going to sue us," Jiang Ye said. "He's going to claim defamation."
"I know," Su Qingwan said. "He's desperate. He knows he can't win in the court of public opinion."
"Then we need to be ready," Jiang Ye said. "I've already hired the best legal team in the city. They're ready to counter-sue."
Su Qingwan nodded. "Good. But I have something better."
She opened a new file on her laptop. It was a list of names. Names of people who had been wronged by Gu Yanchen.
"I've been gathering evidence," she said. "Not just for the Su Group. For everyone."
Jiang Ye looked at her. "Everyone?"
"Every company he's defrauded," she said. "Every investor he's cheated. I've contacted them. They're ready to testify."
Jiang Ye smiled. It was a rare, genuine smile. "You're a force of nature, Su Qingwan."
"I'm just a woman who wants justice," she said. "But I need your help."
"Name it," he said.
"I need you to freeze his assets," she said. "Before he can move them."
Jiang Ye nodded. "It's done. I've already contacted the bank. His accounts are frozen."
Su Qingwan exhaled. She felt a weight lift off her shoulders. "Thank you."
Jiang Ye walked over to her. He put his hand on her shoulder. "You don't have to thank me. We're partners."
Su Qingwan looked up at him. She saw the warmth in his eyes. She felt a pull towards him. A connection she hadn't felt before.
"Partners," she repeated.
"More than that," Jiang Ye said softly. "I think we're more than that."
Su Qingwan felt her heart skip a beat. She had never thought about love again. She had thought it was a weakness. But now, she felt something different.
"I think so too," she said.
They stood there for a moment, the silence between them heavy with unspoken words. Then, the phone rang.
Jiang Ye picked it up. "Yes?"
He listened for a moment. His face darkened.
"What?" he said. "Where?"
He hung up the phone.
"What is it?" Su Qingwan asked.
"Gu Yanchen," Jiang Ye said. "He's gone."
"Gone?"
"He's left the country," Jiang Ye said. "He's on a private jet. He's heading to the Cayman Islands."
Su Qingwan's eyes narrowed. "He's running."
"He's not running," Jiang Ye said. "He's regrouping. He's going to come back stronger."
"Then we need to be ready," Su Qingwan said. "We need to follow him."
Jiang Ye looked at her. "You want to go to the Cayman Islands?"
"I want to end this," she said. "I want to make sure he never comes back."
Jiang Ye smiled. "Then we'll go together."
The Private Flight
The private jet was luxurious. It had a bedroom, a kitchen, and a lounge. It was the kind of plane that cost more than most people's houses.
Su Qingwan sat in the lounge, looking out the window. The clouds were white, fluffy, and endless.
Jiang Ye walked in with two glasses of champagne. He handed one to her.
"To the end of the game," he said.
"To the end of the game," Su Qingwan said.
They clinked glasses. The champagne bubbled, sparkling in the light.
"Are you scared?" Jiang Ye asked.
"A little," Su Qingwan admitted. "But I'm not afraid of him. I'm afraid of what he might do to my family."
"He won't hurt them," Jiang Ye said. "I won't let him."
Su Qingwan looked at him. "Why are you doing this? You don't owe me anything."
"I owe you nothing," Jiang Ye said. "But I want to help you. Because I believe in you."
He sat down next to her. He put his arm around her. She didn't pull away.
"You're not alone," he said. "I'm here."
Su Qingwan leaned into him. She felt safe. She felt loved. For the first time in her life, she felt like she had a home.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Don't thank me," he said. "Just promise me one thing."
"What?"
"Promise me that you'll let me love you," he said.
Su Qingwan looked at him. Her heart raced. She had never been asked this before. She had never thought she deserved it.
"I promise," she said.
Jiang Ye smiled. He leaned in and kissed her. It was a soft, gentle kiss. It was a promise of the future.
The Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands were beautiful. The water was blue, the sand was white, and the sun was bright. But Su Qingwan didn't see the beauty. She saw the danger.
They landed at the private airport. A car was waiting for them. It was a black SUV, with tinted windows.
"Get in," the driver said.
They got in. The car drove through the streets of the islands. It was quiet, peaceful, and empty.
"Where are we going?" Su Qingwan asked.
"To Gu Yanchen's hideout," Jiang Ye said. "I found it."
Su Qingwan nodded. She was ready.
The car stopped in front of a large mansion. It was surrounded by walls, with guards at the gate.
"This is it," Jiang Ye said.
"Let's go," Su Qingwan said.
They got out of the car. They walked towards the gate. The guards stopped them.
"Who are you?" one guard asked.
"We're here to see Mr. Gu," Jiang Ye said.
"He's not here," the guard said.
"He is," Su Qingwan said. "I know he is."
She pulled out a phone. She dialed a number.
"Gu Yanchen," she said. "I know you're there. Come out."
There was a pause. Then, a voice came over the intercom.
"Qingwan," Gu Yanchen's voice said. "You're here."
"Yes," she said. "I'm here to end this."
"End what?" he asked. "The game is just beginning."
"Then let's play," she said.
She looked at Jiang Ye. He nodded.
They walked through the gate. The guards didn't stop them. They knew who they were.
They walked into the mansion. It was empty. But there was a sound. A sound of a machine.
They followed the sound. It led them to a room. It was a server room.
Gu Yanchen was there. He was standing in front of a computer.
"You found me," he said.
"Yes," Su Qingwan said. "And I found this."
She held up a USB drive. "The evidence. The proof of everything you did."
Gu Yanchen smiled. "You think that's enough?"
"It is," she said. "Because I've already sent it to the SEC."
Gu Yanchen's face went pale. "You can't do that."
"I already did," she said.
He looked at the computer. The screen was red. The data was gone.
"You deleted it," he said.
"No," Su Qingwan said. "I copied it. And I sent it to the police."
Gu Yanchen laughed. It was a bitter, broken laugh. "You think you've won?"
"I know I've won," she said. "Because I'm not afraid of you anymore."
She walked towards him. She held the USB drive up.
"Give it to me," she said.
He hesitated. Then, he handed it to her.
"Take it," he said. "Take everything."
Su Qingwan took the drive. She looked at him.
"Goodbye, Gu Yanchen," she said.
She turned and walked away. She didn't look back.
The Aftermath
The police arrived an hour later. They arrested Gu Yanchen. They took him away in handcuffs.
Su Qingwan stood outside the mansion. She watched them take him away.
She felt a sense of relief. It was over.
Jiang Ye walked up to her. He put his arm around her.
"You did it," he said.
"I did," she said. "But it's not over. There are still people out there who want to hurt us."
"We'll handle them," Jiang Ye said. "Together."
Su Qingwan smiled. She looked at the sky. It was blue, clear, and full of promise.
"Together," she said.
They walked back to the car. The sun was setting. The sky was turning pink.
It was a new day. A new beginning.
Su Qingwan got into the car. She looked out the window. She saw the city. She saw the future.
She was ready.
