Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Web Tightens

The Private Deal

The boardroom was silent after Jiang Ye's announcement. The directors were still processing the news that the Su Group and the Jiang Group were merging. It was a move that defied all the logic. The Su Group was struggling, while the Jiang Group was the titan of the industry.

Su Qingwan stood by the window, watching the city lights flicker below. She could feel Jiang Ye's presence behind her. He hadn't left yet.

"You didn't have to do that," Su Qingwan said, not turning around. "You could have just watched me fall."

Jiang Ye walked up to stand beside her. He looked out at the same view. "I don't watch people fall. I watch them rise. And you... you are rising."

"I need you to know something," she said, turning to face him. "This isn't just about business. Gu Yanchen is dangerous. He won't stop until I'm dead."

Jiang Ye's eyes darkened. "I know. I've been watching him for years. He's a cancer. And you... you are the cure."

Su Qingwan felt a shiver run down her spine. It wasn't fear. It was something else. Something warmer.

"Why me?" she asked. "Why help me?"

"Because I see myself in you," Jiang Ye said softly. "We both know what it's like to be used. To be discarded. We both know the cost of power."

He reached out and touched her hand. It was a small gesture, but it carried a weight that made her breath catch.

"I'm not going to let him win," Jiang Ye said. "And I'm not going to let you fight alone."

Su Qingwan looked at his hand on hers. In her past life, she had never felt this kind of protection. She had always been alone.

"Thank you," she whispered.

"Don't thank me yet," Jiang Ye said, pulling his hand away. "We have work to do. Gu Yanchen is already moving."

The Leak

The next morning, the news broke.

"Su Group in Crisis: CEO Su Qingwan Accused of Embezzlement."

The headline was splashed across every major news outlet. The article claimed that Su Qingwan had been siphoning money from the company to fund her personal lifestyle. It was a lie. A blatant, malicious lie.

Su Qingwan sat in her office, reading the article on her tablet. Her father was pacing behind her, looking panicked.

"Qingwan," he said. "What do we do? The stock is dropping. People are calling."

"Let them call," she said, her voice calm. "I know who did this."

"Who?"

"Gu Yanchen," she said. "He's trying to destroy my reputation before I can destroy his."

She stood up and walked to the window. She could see the city below. It was a battlefield. And she was the general.

"Father," she said. "Call the PR team. I want a press conference. Now."

"But... the evidence..."

"I have the evidence," she said. "I just need to release it."

She opened her laptop and pulled up a file. It was a recording. A recording of Gu Yanchen's voice, admitting to the fraud. She had recorded it in her past life, but she had kept it hidden. Now, it was time to use it.

"Send it to the media," she said. "And tell them I'll be there in an hour."

Her father hesitated. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure," she said. "This is the first move. And I'm not going to lose."

The Press Conference

The press conference was held in the main hall of the Su Group headquarters. Reporters filled the room, cameras flashing, microphones ready.

Su Qingwan walked to the podium. She wore a black suit, sharp and professional. She looked like a queen on her throne.

"Thank you for coming," she said, her voice echoing through the room. "I know there are rumors. I know there are accusations. But I am here to tell you the truth."

She pressed a button on the podium. A video played on the screen behind her. It was Gu Yanchen's voice, admitting to the fraud.

The room erupted into chaos. Reporters shouted questions. Cameras flashed faster.

"Who is this?" one reporter asked.

"This is Gu Yanchen," Su Qingwan said. "And he is the one who has been stealing from this company. He has been stealing from us."

She pointed to the screen. "I have the evidence. I have the bank records. I have the witnesses. And I am not going to let him get away with it."

She looked at the cameras. "Gu Yanchen thinks he can destroy me. He thinks he can ruin my family. But he forgot one thing."

She paused. The room went silent.

"I am not the same girl who walked into this room a year ago," she said. "I am the Phoenix. And I am rising from the ashes."

The applause was deafening. The reporters were writing furiously. The stock price of the Su Group began to rise.

Gu Yanchen watched the broadcast from his office. He was furious. He slammed his fist on the desk.

"She's ruining me," he said. "She's ruining everything."

"Sir," his assistant said. "We need to do something."

"I know," Gu Yanchen said. "I know."

He picked up his phone. He dialed a number.

"Lin Yue," he said. "I need you to do something for me."

"What is it?"

"I need you to get close to her," he said. "I need you to find out what she's planning."

"Are you sure?" Lin Yue asked. "She hates me."

"She doesn't know I'm still in love with her," Gu Yanchen said. "She doesn't know I'm still the one who can give her everything."

He hung up the phone. He smiled.

"Let the game begin," he said.

The Night Walk

After the press conference, Su Qingwan walked out of the building. The night air was cool, but she didn't feel cold. She felt alive.

She walked to the edge of the building. She looked out at the city. It was beautiful. It was full of possibilities.

"Qingwan."

She turned to see Jiang Ye standing behind her. He had followed her.

"Jiang," she said. "You didn't have to come."

"I wanted to," he said. "You did well today."

"I had help," she said. "You gave me the evidence."

"I gave you the tools," he said. "You did the work."

He walked up to her. He stood close, but not too close. He respected her space.

"You're stronger than you think," he said. "I know you're carrying a lot. But you don't have to carry it alone."

Su Qingwan looked at him. She saw the sincerity in his eyes. She saw the man who was willing to stand by her side.

"I know," she said. "But I need to be careful. Gu Yanchen is dangerous."

"I know," he said. "But so are we."

He reached out and took her hand. This time, she didn't pull away.

"We're a team," he said. "And we're going to win."

Su Qingwan smiled. It was a small smile, but it was real.

"Yes," she said. "We're going to win."

The Trap

Meanwhile, Lin Yue was in her car. She was driving to the Su residence. She had a plan.

She had been working with Gu Yanchen. She had been feeding him information. She had been planning to steal the Su Group's secrets.

She parked the car and walked into the building. She had a key. She had always had a key.

She walked to Su Qingwan's office. She opened the door. She started to search for the files.

She found a folder. It was labeled "Offshore Accounts."

She smiled. She had found it.

But then, she heard a sound.

"Who's there?"

She turned to see Su Qingwan standing in the doorway. She was holding a flashlight.

"Qingwan," Lin Yue said, trying to sound surprised. "I... I was just looking for you."

"You were looking for me?" Su Qingwan said. "Or were you looking for something else?"

She walked into the room. She picked up the folder.

"You were looking for this," she said. "The offshore accounts."

Lin Yue's face went pale. "I... I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't lie to me," Su Qingwan said. "I know what you did. I know what you're planning."

She held up the folder. "This is evidence. And I'm going to use it."

Lin Yue tried to run. But Su Qingwan was faster. She blocked the door.

"You can't escape," she said. "I know where you're going. I know what you're doing."

She picked up her phone. She dialed the police.

"Gu Yanchen," she said. "You're next."

The New Dawn

The police arrived an hour later. They arrested Lin Yue. They took her to the station.

Su Qingwan stood outside the station. She watched them take her away.

She felt a sense of relief. It was over. For now.

Jiang Ye walked up to her. He put his arm around her.

"You did it," he said.

"I did," she said. "But it's not over. Gu Yanchen is still out there."

"He will be caught," Jiang Ye said. "I promise."

Su Qingwan looked at him. She saw the determination in his eyes.

"I know," she said. "I trust you."

They walked back to the car. The sun was rising. The sky was turning pink.

It was a new day. A new beginning.

Su Qingwan got into the car. She looked out the window. She saw the city. She saw the future.

She was ready.
