Chapter 4 - Human Torch

Izanagi got out of the car and looked at the massive crowd that had formed around him, with people having their phones raised, recording. He looked for Ryota and Satsuki and found them on the sidewalk.

Ryota looked him up and down, and both he and Satsuki walked up towards him, then Ryota crouched down to his level at a safe distance.

"Can you turn it off?" He asked.

'I have no idea,' Izanagi thought as he concentrated, trying to turn it off. His body slowly went back to normal until the flames went away, and so did his fever as well.

Ryota quickly took his shirt off, covering Izanagi then Satsuki picked him up, her hands moving all over his body, checking for any injuries in worry.

"Are you hurt? Does anything hurt? Look at me."

"I'm fine," he said.

She pulled him against her shoulder and held him, holding back tears as Ryota slowly rubbed her shoulders.

Two firefighter trucks arrived fast. Two of them, pulling up as firefighters got out and sprayed the car with the truck hoses. One of them came to the family and asked them a series of questions, like whether they were hurt, etc.

Ryota answered each of the questions with a simple no. The firefighter looked at Izanagi, still in Satsuki's arms, and rubbed his head.

"You doing okay, little guy?"

"Yes," Izanagi said.

The firefighter smiled at him and moved on. What was left of the car was a burnt piece of crap. Izanagi looked at it, feeling bad for destroying their car.

"Sorry about the car," he said.

"It's okay." Both parents said simultaneously.

They took the bus home. Satsuki sat with Izanagi on her lap while Ryota took the seat beside them and was on the phone with a quirk doctor.

"My son displayed a Quirk this morning. We need an appointment, tomorrow, if possible....that works, we'll be there."

They eventually arrived at their mansion, and Izanagi felt exhausted. As they walked in, Satsuki crouched in front of him.

"You want to eat something first?" She asked.

He shook his head, and she brought him to his room, and he was asleep before she closed the door.

Satsuki sat at the kitchen table, finishing her coffee while Ryota was at the counter, lost in thought.

"Satsuki," Ryota called out

"Yes?"

"Do you think our son might be autistic?"

"What..Why would you think that?"

"He was on fire for crying out loud, yet he didn't even look scared."

"Don't say such things about him, he's just a special kid."

"Yeah, he's special, alright, are we not going to address the elephant in the room, how he has a quirk?"

"Okay, he has a quirk? What's the big deal? Shouldn't you be happy that he doesn't have to deal with the same shit we both had to deal with?"

"I am happy for him, yes, but he's dangreous what if one day, while he was sleeping, he suddenly bursts into flames and kills us all?"

Satsuki quickly stood up and slammed her hand on the table.

"You know what! I'm sick and tired of your negativity today, Ryota. He clearly has some type of handle over his quirk. Stop trying to demonize our son. You know what, I'm done having this conversation with you. Goodnight." Satsuki said as she walked upstairs to her bedroom.

"What a bitch." Ryota mumbled under his breath.

The next day, they arrived at the quirk doctor's office. The doctor introduced himself as Ikari. He was a tall, fat man with one tooth missing. He greeted the family, then looked at Izanagi and crouched to his level.

"So you're Izanagi. I'm Dr. Ikari. I'm going to take a look at what your body can do today, okay? Nothing scary."

"Okay," Izanagi said.

Ryota described what happened on the street, and as the doctor listened, he wrote things down. They took Izanagi to a separate room, which was a testing room that was fireproof with an observation window in one wall and a small speaker mounted near the door. Sasaki also brought extra clothes for Izanagi.

The doctor's voice came through the speaker, "Okay, Izanagi. Can you try to go on fire again? Like what happened yesterday?"

Izanagi concentrated. It came to him more easily this time as he burst into flames.

"How do you feel?" the doctor asked.

"Fine," Izanagi said.

"Good. Can you try to make the fire do something? Anything you can think of."

Izanagi held out one hand; he didn't really have any reference as TV shows and most entertainment were basically extinct, so he was trying shit. He thought about pulling the heat in his palm together into a shape.

The flame on his hand drew inward, compressed, and formed a small sphere in his palm.

"Very good," the doctor said. "Can you hold that while I time you? We just want to see how long you can stay in that form."

Izanagi held, and minutes passed until it reached the five-minute mark, and his flames went away. Then, the doctor's voice came through the speaker.

"Come on out."

He went back in the main room, wearing the extra clothes. Ikari sat across from the family and put his notes on the table, addressing what he thinks Izanagi's quirk is.

"Transformation-type Quirk. When it activates, Izanagi's body converts to living fire, which doesn't cause any noticeable harm, and when he's in that form, it grants him access to pyrokinesis. The form so far holds for about five minutes, but it most likely will get longer if he trains or just gets older."

"It's an unusual quirk", Ikari continued. "I have never seen or heard from any of my peers about a quirk that turns someone into an element espically one as strong as fire. He will be a great hero one day." Ikari finished with a smile.

"Well, it's up to him for what he wants to be, I would prefer if he follows in my footsteps, haha," Ryota said.

"Of course, of course, hero work can be dangerous after all, but one last thing, some kids like to give their Quirk a name. You don't have to, but I'll write it down if you want. Whatever feels right."

Izanagi thought about it; his powers reminded him of a torch, he was like a-

'Human Torch.'

"Human Torch," Izanagi said with a smile.
