Chapter 10 - Letter

"Are you okay?" Izanagi asked worriedly.

"Yes, baby, mommy is just dealing with a lot right now, but how was school?" Sasaki asked, looking in the rearview mirror.

"It was alright, I made a new friend though, her name is Fuyumi."

"Oh, congrats, I'm surprised you made one," Sasaki said dryly.

"Hey, I said I didn't want to go, not that I didn't want friends," he said defensively.

Izanagi was many things, but he wasn't a loner; he usually chatted it up with friends at his workplace, which made the grueling hours pass more quickly.

They eventually arrived home, and Izanagi changed into his home clothes, ready to go to sleep. Even though he had the mind of a nineteen-year-old, he still had the body of a four-year-old, which needed much rest.

As he was about to fall asleep, Sasaki came into his room and turned on the light.

"Izanagi, we need to talk," she said solemnly.

'Finally.'

He's been waiting for her to spill the beans all day. Izanagi got up and sat on his bed, staring at Sasaki, who looked very troubled.

"Your dad turned himself in to the cops, he found out they found his dna and turned himself in." Sasaki pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to the shocked Izanagi.

It was a goodbye letter from Ryota.

'Dear Izanagi, I don't even know how to write this right now, but I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I promised myself you wouldn't grow up without a father as I did, but here we are. There have been so many things in life that I regret, but you're not one of them. When I saw you for the first time after Sasaki's labor, I cried because you looked just like your mom and me. I want you to know that I love you, Izanagi, and without you and your mom to pull me down, I don't know where I would be right now. You're a special kid, Izanagi, unusually smart for your age and mature. I can tell you're going to make a big impact in this world, and it would be stupid for me to limit that, so your mom and I decided to let you practice with your quirk from now on. You're already behind the best of the best, so it's time for you to catch up; see it as a parting gift from me.'

'Love, Dad,'

Once Izanagi was done reading the letter, he wiped his eyes, confused as tears fell.

'Why am I crying?'

Izanagi didn't feel he had a deep connection with Ryota or Sasaki because he always put up a barrier as a defense mechanism, so he could never forget his original parents, whom he treasured dearly, yet here he was crying.

'Could it be that I've grown to see them as my parents?'

Before Izanagi could dwell on it more, Sasaki pulled him in a tight hug, holding her tears back to keep a strong face.

"It's going to be okay, Izanagi, believe me, I'll make sure of it," Sasaki said, rubbing Izanagi's back.

A few minutes later, after Izanagi and Sasaki calmed down, they went to the basement.

"Okay, I'm not very familiar with quirks, but I had heard it functions like a muscle, so from now on you're going to do about three hours of physical activities a day. It could be from playing tag with your friend Fuyumi to kicking a ball; as long as you're moving your body, you're good, and you're going to become strong just like your mommy." Sasaki raised and flexed both her arms, which got a slight chuckle from Izanagi.

"Now, regarding your quirk, fire is too dangerous to be practiced in or anywhere around our house, so we've hired a private quirk instructor who is an ex-Flaming Sidekicker who is going to teach you at a hero training facility for future heroes in training. He should be here any minute now so we can all get to know each other."

"What's a Flaming Sidekicker?" Izanagi asked.

"It's a sidekick group that works for Endeavor."

"Hah? Did he charge you an exorbitant amount of money?" he asked incredulously.

"Um, yes… but it's for your future, Izanagi. It's more than worth it," Sasaki said, scratching the back of her head sheepishly.

"I'm sorry to tell you this… but you got scammed," Izanagi said deadpan.

"Ahh, I know, he was such a good salesman, I realized it too late," she said wryly.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

"Oh, speak of the devil," Sasaki said as she and Izanagi walked upstairs.

She opened the door, and in front of them was an intimidating, tall, and muscular man with wavy grey hair styled into a ponytail. He had a bearded chin-strap and red-colored eyes, one of which was covered by a black eye-patch.

"Greetings, Ms. Kurosawa." He bowed.

"Greetings to you too, come on in." Sasaki gestured for him to come in.

He walked in, and they sat in the dining area with Izanagi forcibly placed on Sasaki's lap.

"Izanagi, this is Mr. Burns, and Mr. Burns, this is Izanagi—my son," she said, smiling.

"Yo." Izanagi waved.

"It is nice to meet you, Izanagi. I have heard great things about you from your mom. Your quirk intrigues me, to say the least," Mr. Burns said, rubbing his hands together.

"I'm going to become number one, it only makes sense that it would be intriguing." Izanagi smiled slyly.

"Cocky one, aren't you… we'll have to discipline that," he said coldly, squinting at Izanagi.

Before Izanagi could reply, Sasaki covered his mouth.

"He's quite a smartass, don't mind him." She smiled sheepishly.

"Haha, none taken, I've dealt with quite a handful of them; each one ended up very humble. Hopefully he learns before it comes to that extent."

'You have no idea what's coming to you, old man.'

Sasaki let go of Izanagi's mouth and gave him a glance that told him to shut up; the grown-ups are talking now.

"Getting back to the topic, what does your program offer? I already know, but I want Izanagi to hear from the man himself."

"Our program is the number one quirk training facility for future heroes in Japan. We have trained people like the likes of Ryukyu, the number nine hero, and Edgeshot, the number five hero."

"The facility offers special quirk analysis from esteemed scientists that surpasses the backwater quirk doctors that you're used to. We also can request special support items for our clients, straight from I-Island, if it's deemed necessary, which I'm sure you need considering you get naked when you use your quirk," Mr. Burns said with a faint smirk.

Izanagi cleared his throat as his ears turned a light shade of pink.

"We also have specialized training zones similar to U.S.J., though it's to a much lesser extent, and a massive gym and a recovery wing," Mr. Burns finished.

"You hear all that, Izanagi? You're basically going to a mini U.A.," Sasaki said excitedly.

"Haha, we get that a lot. Most future U.A. students have been to the facility before," he said with a chuckle.

"I'll admit your program does sound good. It makes sense why it would be expensive now," Izanagi said.

"Glad to hear that. Now we should be on our way." Mr. Burns got up and started walking towards the door.

Sasaki picked up Izanagi and followed Mr. Burns. Since it was the first day, she was going to come as well, to see if the facility was as good as Mr. Burns described.
