Chapter 15 - A Storm of Power

The moon hung high above the Crescent Moon pack, its pale silver glow spilling across the clearing and stretching long shadows between the cabins and towering trees. The pack had settled into uneasy quiet after the long day, yet beneath the calm surface a tension lingered that no one could fully explain. Wolves moved through the clearing with cautious awareness, as if some invisible storm hovered just beyond the horizon, waiting for the right moment to break.

Seraphina stood inside the healer's cabin, the wooden cup resting carefully on the small table beside her. The faint scent of poison still lingered in the air, sharp and bitter even after the healer had sealed the liquid away in a small glass vial. The old woman who served as the pack's healer moved slowly around the room, her wrinkled hands steady despite the seriousness of the discovery.

Seraphina watched her in silence, her thoughts swirling like dark water beneath the surface of a calm lake. She had suspected Lyra the moment she recognized the poison, yet suspicion alone was not proof. If she accused Lyra without evidence the pack would likely turn against her, especially since Lyra had spent years building trust among the members while Seraphina had been treated as little more than an invisible shadow.

The healer finally turned toward her with a grave expression.

"This poison is not natural," the old woman said slowly. "It is mixed with dark herbs that are rarely used except in the deeper regions of the supernatural territories."

Seraphina felt a chill run through her spine.

"Would it kill someone?" she asked quietly.

The healer shook her head.

"Not immediately," she replied. "But it would weaken the body and cloud the mind. If the victim were already exhausted or injured it could be enough to destroy them."

Seraphina's hands curled slowly at her sides.

Someone had planned this carefully.

Someone had expected her to drink the tea after training or patrol when she would already be tired and vulnerable.

The thought ignited a quiet anger deep within her chest.

The healer studied her carefully for a moment before speaking again.

"You must be cautious," she said gently. "Power attracts enemies, and the moment the kings arrived here your life became more dangerous than ever before."

Seraphina nodded slowly.

"I know."

Yet even as she spoke those words she felt something strange stirring inside her, a restless energy that had been growing stronger with each passing day.

Her wolf instincts pulsed beneath her skin like a second heartbeat.

Her magic flickered quietly in the back of her mind like distant lightning.

And somewhere deeper within her a colder presence stirred with ancient patience.

The vampire blood.

Seraphina inhaled slowly, trying to calm the sudden surge of power rushing through her veins.

The healer noticed the change immediately.

"Seraphina," she said carefully. "What are you feeling right now?"

Seraphina hesitated.

"It is difficult to explain," she admitted. "My body feels restless, like something inside me is waking up."

The healer's eyes widened slightly with understanding.

"The three kings are near," she murmured. "Their presence is strengthening your bond and awakening your bloodline faster than expected."

As if summoned by her words the door of the cabin opened quietly.

Kael stepped inside first, his tall frame filling the doorway as golden eyes scanned the room with protective intensity. Behind him came Dorian, his expression calm yet alert, followed closely by Lucien whose quiet presence carried a subtle darkness that made the air feel heavier.

Seraphina's heart skipped as the bond between them flared to life instantly.

Each king affected her differently.

Kael's presence warmed her chest like a steady flame.

Dorian's power sharpened her thoughts like the edge of a blade.

Lucien's energy stirred something deeper and darker within her blood.

All three together created a storm of sensation that nearly stole her breath.

Kael stepped forward first, his gaze falling immediately on Seraphina.

"We heard there was trouble," he said firmly.

Seraphina glanced briefly at the healer before answering.

"There was poison in one of the cups outside," she explained. "The healer confirmed it."

A dangerous silence filled the room.

Dorian's eyes darkened slightly.

"Someone attempted to weaken you," he said thoughtfully.

Lucien leaned lightly against the wall, his crimson gaze narrowing with quiet interest.

"An interesting choice of method," he murmured. "Subtle enough to avoid suspicion but effective if the victim were already struggling."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"No one harms her within my territory," he said.

Seraphina watched the three kings carefully as their protective instincts ignited almost instantly. The bond between them pulsed through her chest, warm and powerful, yet it also reminded her that she could not rely on them forever.

If she truly intended to survive the growing dangers around her she would need to become stronger.

Much stronger.

"I believe I know who may have done it," she said slowly.

Kael's gaze sharpened.

"Lyra."

The name hung in the air like a spark near dry leaves.

Dorian considered it carefully.

"She has always shown hostility toward you," he admitted.

Lucien's lips curved slightly with quiet amusement.

"Jealousy is a powerful motivator."

Kael folded his arms across his chest.

"Do you have proof?" he asked Seraphina.

She shook her head.

"Not yet."

The room fell silent again.

Then Lucien straightened slowly, his gaze fixed on Seraphina with a thoughtful intensity.

"Then perhaps this is an opportunity," he said.

Seraphina frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

Lucien stepped closer, his voice smooth and calm.

"If someone within the pack believes you are weak enough to destroy quietly then we allow them to continue believing that," he explained. "Meanwhile you grow stronger in secret."

Dorian nodded slowly.

"That strategy would reveal the enemy eventually."

Kael remained silent for a moment before speaking.

"It will also require Seraphina to train harder than she ever has before."

Seraphina lifted her chin slightly.

"I am ready."

The three kings exchanged brief glances before turning back toward her.

Lucien studied her carefully, his crimson eyes glowing faintly in the lantern light.

"Then we begin immediately," he said.

Seraphina's pulse quickened.

"Tonight?"

Kael nodded firmly.

"The sooner you learn to control your power the safer you will be."

Dorian gestured toward the door.

"The forest will provide enough space for training."

Seraphina hesitated only briefly before stepping forward.

The moment she walked between them she felt the bond surge again, stronger than before, as if the world itself recognized the significance of the moment.

Outside the cabin the forest waited beneath the silver moonlight.

Cool air brushed against her skin as she stepped into the clearing with the three kings beside her.

Somewhere deep in the shadows unseen eyes watched quietly.

And far beyond the lantern light Lyra stood partially hidden behind a cabin, her gaze fixed on Seraphina with cold calculation.

A faint smile slowly spread across her lips.

She believed her plan had gone unnoticed.

She believed Seraphina remained weak.

But she had no idea that the tribrid she despised was already beginning to awaken.

And when that awakening was complete the entire supernatural world would feel the force of the storm rising within Seraphina's blood.
