Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 — The Gravity of Seven Hearts

The balcony eventually grew too cold.

Not because of the weather, but because seven grown men trying to stand in one tiny space was simply impractical.

Jin was the first to complain.

"Alright, emotional breakthrough achieved. Can we move inside before someone falls over the railing?"

Jungkook laughed and pushed the door open.

"Group migration."

They slowly shuffled back into the living room, the earlier tension now replaced with something softer. Warmer.

But Hoseok could still feel something lingering in the air.

Not anger.

Something else.

Attention.

For the first time all evening, everyone seemed focused on him.

And it made him strangely nervous.

Hoseok rubbed the back of his neck as he sat down on the couch.

"You're all staring again."

Taehyung immediately flopped down beside him, throwing an arm around his shoulders.

"We're appreciating."

Jimin sat on Hoseok's other side and leaned his head against his arm.

"Yeah."

Hoseok blinked.

"Appreciating?"

Jungkook dropped onto the floor in front of the couch, resting his chin on the cushion as he looked up at Hoseok.

"We made you feel neglected earlier."

Yoongi sat in the armchair nearby, watching the scene with a quiet expression.

"So now everyone is overcompensating," he said dryly.

Jin walked in from the kitchen carrying a bowl of strawberries and placed it on the coffee table.

"Correct."

Namjoon leaned against the back of the couch behind Hoseok.

"We're fixing our mistake."

Hoseok laughed softly.

"This feels suspicious."

Taehyung squeezed him tighter.

"You deserve affection."

Jimin nodded seriously.

"Lots of it."

Hoseok glanced between them.

"You two were the ones ready to start a war earlier."

Taehyung grinned.

"War and affection are not mutually exclusive."

Jimin poked Hoseok's cheek.

"You know we love you."

"I know."

But hearing it still warmed his chest.

Jungkook reached up and gently tugged Hoseok's sleeve.

"Hobi."

"Hmm?"

"Come down here."

Hoseok tilted his head.

"Why?"

"So I can hug you properly."

Taehyung gasped dramatically.

"Possessive."

Jungkook smirked.

"You're literally sitting on him."

"That's different."

Hoseok sighed but slid down from the couch onto the carpet beside Jungkook.

The youngest immediately wrapped his arms around him from behind.

A warm, firm hug.

"You really scared us earlier," Jungkook murmured.

Hoseok blinked.

"Me?"

"You questioning your place."

Hoseok looked down.

"I didn't mean to scare anyone."

Yoongi spoke from across the room.

"You did."

Hoseok glanced up.

Yoongi rarely sounded serious like that.

"You're the emotional core of this relationship," Yoongi continued.

"If you start doubting yourself, everything shakes."

Hoseok frowned slightly.

"That sounds like too much responsibility."

Jin popped a strawberry into his mouth.

"It's not responsibility."

"It's gravity."

Everyone looked at him.

Jin shrugged.

"Planets orbit gravity."

Taehyung grinned.

"And we orbit Hoseok."

Hoseok groaned.

"You're all ridiculous."

But the smile tugging at his lips betrayed him.

Jimin suddenly shifted closer and rested his chin on Hoseok's shoulder.

"Hobi."

"Yes?"

"Can I say something honest?"

"That's usually dangerous."

Jimin ignored the comment.

"When we thought you supported Namjoon leaving… it scared me."

Hoseok turned slightly toward him.

"Why?"

Jimin hesitated.

"Because you're the one who always stays."

The room grew quiet.

Taehyung nodded slowly.

"You're the constant."

Hoseok felt his chest tighten again.

"But that doesn't mean I can't support someone chasing their dreams."

Namjoon spoke softly behind him.

"We know that now."

Jungkook loosened his hug but didn't let go completely.

"Still doesn't mean we like the idea of being away from each other."

Yoongi leaned forward slightly.

"Distance isn't the end of a relationship."

Taehyung tilted his head.

"You sound experienced."

Yoongi smirked faintly.

"I just understand reality."

Jin stretched his arms over his head.

"Well before we spiral into long-distance anxiety again, I believe someone promised comfort."

Six pairs of eyes slowly turned toward Hoseok.

Hoseok froze.

"Why are you all looking at me?"

Taehyung grinned.

"Because you're the comfort."

Jungkook tightened his arms again.

"And tonight you're receiving it."

Hoseok laughed.

"So I'm the patient now?"

Jimin nodded proudly.

"Exactly."

Taehyung leaned closer.

"And we're very attentive caretakers."

Namjoon chuckled quietly behind them.

"This feels slightly unfair."

Yoongi raised an eyebrow.

"Jealous?"

"Maybe."

Jungkook glanced back.

"Get in line."

Namjoon walked around the couch and sat beside Hoseok on the floor.

Now Hoseok was surrounded again.

Taehyung on the couch above him.

Jimin pressed against his side.

Jungkook behind him.

Namjoon beside him.

Yoongi watching from the chair.

Jin leaning against the counter.

Hoseok looked around at all of them.

"This is… a lot."

Jin laughed.

"You asked for attention."

"I absolutely did not."

Taehyung slid off the couch and knelt beside him.

"Well you're getting it anyway."

The playful energy slowly replaced the earlier tension.

But beneath the teasing, something deeper lingered.

Gratitude.

Relief.

Love.

Jungkook suddenly spoke again.

"You know when I first fell for you?"

Hoseok blinked.

"What?"

Jimin gasped.

"Confession time."

Taehyung clapped excitedly.

"Story time."

Yoongi sighed.

"This is going to be dramatic."

Jungkook ignored them.

He rested his chin on Hoseok's shoulder.

"It was the first time we all had a huge fight."

Hoseok frowned.

"Which one?"

Jin laughed.

"That does not narrow it down."

"The one about schedules," Jungkook clarified.

"Oh."

Everyone remembered that one.

It had been chaotic.

"You stayed up all night with each of us," Jungkook continued.

"You listened to every complaint."

"You calmed everyone down."

Hoseok shrugged.

"That's normal."

"No," Jungkook said quietly.

"It's not."

Hoseok looked back at him.

"You didn't take sides."

"You didn't judge anyone."

"You just… cared."

Jungkook smiled slightly.

"That's when I realized I loved you."

The room fell silent again.

Hoseok felt warmth creeping up his neck.

"You're embarrassing me."

Taehyung leaned forward.

"My turn."

Jimin laughed.

"This is becoming a competition."

Taehyung ignored him.

"I fell in love with Hoseok because he laughs with his whole body."

Hoseok groaned.

"That's not a real reason."

"It is."

Taehyung nudged him playfully.

"When you laugh, everyone else laughs too."

Jimin nodded.

"That's true."

Yoongi spoke next, surprisingly.

"I fell for him because he doesn't let me disappear."

Everyone turned to him.

Yoongi looked slightly uncomfortable under the attention.

"Hoseok checks on people quietly," he explained.

"You don't even notice he's doing it."

Hoseok looked down shyly.

"I just care."

Yoongi nodded.

"Exactly."

Namjoon smiled softly.

"I fell for him because he understands people better than anyone I've ever met."

Jin clapped dramatically.

"And I fell for him because he cooks with passion."

Hoseok stared at him.

"That's your reason?"

Jin shrugged.

"Food is love."

Jimin giggled.

"I fell for him because he makes everyone feel safe."

Hoseok's chest tightened again.

Six confessions.

Six different reasons.

But they all pointed to the same thing.

Him.

The warmth in the room grew stronger.

Taehyung leaned his head against Hoseok's shoulder.

"So stop doubting yourself."

Jimin nodded.

"You're literally the emotional backbone of seven people."

Hoseok groaned again.

"That sounds exhausting."

Jungkook laughed.

"Good thing we're helping now."

Namjoon gently squeezed Hoseok's hand.

"We don't say it enough."

"But you matter."

"Just as much as anyone else here."

Hoseok looked around the room again.

Six faces.

Six hearts.

All focused on him.

And for the first time that night, the insecurity in his chest finally faded.

Replaced by something warm and steady.

Belonging.

Maybe being the beta in the middle wasn't a weakness.

Maybe it was exactly what made their strange, complicated relationship work.

Seven hearts.

One gravity.

And Hoseok sat right at the center of it all.
