In the southeast of Chankrai lay the Kingdom of Arichayan. It was renowned for its strategic location, fertile lands, and majestic temples. Yet, it achieved its greatest glory during the reign of King Thirasak Siriporn. Following the sudden death of the previous monarch, and as the sole surviving heir, he was forced to ascend the throne at an early age, time and again proving his worthiness despite his youth.
There were those who opposed his ascension, but their prayers and machinations were not destined to bear fruit. Of men like Siriporn, it is often said that they were "born under a lucky star." In fact, this was literally true - it was not for nothing that he was given this name. On the day of his birth, not only did the stars shine brighter, but it is said that the gods themselves bestowed their blessings upon him.
Yet the King himself did not wait for manna from heaven. He studied and trained diligently. Ultimately, he became an accomplished diplomat, a skilled military commander, and a just ruler, respected and beloved by his people. Divine favor alone is not enough to make a ruler - or so Siriporn believed. But it is enough to grant one the chance to be happy.
But more on that later.
