Outside Beijing, in an abandoned industrial zone, the sun was about to set. Piles of rusted iron, dilapidated buildings—it was like a time capsule submerged in silence. This place, once the heart of China's industrial revolution, was now home only to the howling of the wind.
But that evening, this silence was about to be broken.
Sofia Reinhardt had sent dozens of messages from her workshop in Berlin, reaching out to the Triggered in China through secure channels. Now, these six individuals were simultaneously making their way to the same location. They didn't know each other, but they shared the same fate.
The first to arrive was Ahmed Al-Farsi. A 28-year-old Egyptian engineer, he had been working on a project in China for a week. On the night of the anomaly, while sleeping in his hotel room, he had found himself surrounded by sand. It wasn't a dream. His hands could control the sand, creating giant sculptures and raising sandstorms. Now, he stood in front of the abandoned factory, gathering the courage to enter.
"Don't be afraid," a voice inside him said. "You are not alone."
He went inside. The interior of the factory was even more unsettling than the outside. Rusty machinery, broken glass, everything covered in dust. But right in the middle, a light was shining. A spotlight illuminated the emptiness.
Ahmed walked towards the light. Just then, he heard a voice behind him:
"Ahmed?"
He turned. Facing him stood a Chinese girl, around 25 years old, with long black hair and a slender build. She wore jeans and a black t-shirt, her eyes holding both fear and curiosity.
"Lin Zhang," the girl said, extending her hand. "Wind and sound."
Ahmed shook her hand. "Ahmed. Sand."
They both fell silent for a moment. Then Lin smiled. "I guess we went through the same thing."
Ahmed nodded. "Sofia sent me. She said others would come."
Just then, two more people entered through the door. One was a man in his thirties, with short hair and an athletic build. Beside him was a young girl in her twenties, looking shy.
"Zhang Wei," the man said. "Earth."
"Wang Fang," the young girl whispered. "I... I don't know what I do. Things just happen."
Lin went to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Don't be afraid. We're all in the same situation."
Wang Fang nodded, tears in her eyes. "Thank you."
The five of them gathered around the spotlight. They began to wait. Minutes passed, then hours. The sun set completely, plunging the factory into darkness. The spotlight was their only source of light.
"What if they don't come?" Wang Fang asked.
"They'll come," Ahmed said. "Sofia is reliable."
Just then, two more people entered through the door. One was a man around 35, wearing glasses, looking like an academic. The other was an energetic woman in her late twenties with short hair.
"Chen Jie," the man said. "Physicist. But now... let's say energy manipulator."
"Li Mei," the woman said. "I... talk to plants. I feel like I'm going crazy."
Lin laughed. "We're all crazy. Welcome."
The seven of them gathered around the spotlight. Now they were complete. Six people, just as Sofia had told them. But who was the seventh?
Just then, another shadow entered through the door. But this one was different from the others. The shadow slowly illuminated, and Sofia Reinhardt appeared.
"Welcome," Sofia said, smiling. "I'm Sofia. The one who brought you all together."
The six looked at her in astonishment. This was the voice they had heard on the phone. But standing before them was a real person.
"How... how did you get here?" Zhang Wei asked.
Sofia showed the small device in her hand. "Technology. But that's not important. What matters is that we are together now."
Li Mei looked around. "So what do we do now?"
Sofia walked over to the spotlight and turned it up a little. "First, you'll get to know each other. You'll share your powers, your fears, your hopes. Because together, you'll be stronger."
Ahmed spoke up: "But why? Why are you bringing us together?"
Sofia's face grew serious. "Because we have enemies. A financier named Anton Petrov is hunting Triggered individuals like you. A tech genius named Jin wants to control you. And an entity named Kronos is trying to seize control of time itself."
Wang Fang asked fearfully: "What are we going to do?"
Sofia looked into everyone's eyes. "We'll fight together. We'll protect each other. And we will win."
That night, in the factory, six Triggered individuals held their first meeting under Sofia's guidance. Each told their story. Ahmed spoke of waking up amidst the sands in Egypt. Lin told how sound waves had shattered everything around her during a concert in Beijing. Zhang Wei described how the earth in his field responded to him. Wang Fang whispered about objects moving on their own in her home, and how she hid in fear. Chen Jie explained how he felt energy in his laboratory. Li Mei shared how the plants in the botanical garden sang to her.
When the stories ended, they all fell silent. In their eyes was the relief of realizing they were not alone.
"Now we are a family," Sofia said. "And family protects each other."
Ahmed stood up. "What about practical matters? How do we use our powers?"
Sofia smiled. "Now you'll learn."
Sofia opened a small box she had brought with her. Inside were various sensors and measuring instruments. "These will help me measure your powers. We'll see what level you're at, how much control you have."
Ahmed went first for testing. He raised his hands, gathering the dust and sand on the factory floor. The sand formed a ball in the air, then transformed into a sculpture. It was a small pyramid.
Sofia examined the devices. "Impressive. Your power requires focus and control. But your potential is very high."
Next, Lin used her voice. She sang a note; the note echoed through the factory, making the windows tremble. She laughed, and the laughter spread in waves, causing rusty metals to fall from shelves.
Sofia took notes. "Your voice can be a weapon. But also a source of healing. You need to learn both."
Zhang Wei summoned the earth. The concrete floor of the factory cracked, and earth erupted from within, forming a small mound. Wang Fang stepped back in fear.
Sofia turned to Zhang Wei: "Earth is the most stable element. But also the strongest. You could be a protector."
When it was Wang Fang's turn, she was scared. "I can't."
Lin took her hand. "You can. We're here."
Wang Fang closed her eyes. For a moment, the small metal pieces around her lifted into the air. They trembled, then fell to the ground.
Sofia smiled. "Telekinesis. Weak, but it's there. It will develop with time."
Chen Jie felt the energy. He absorbed the light from the spotlight, formed a ball in his palm, then released it back. Li Mei summoned plants. Tiny green shoots emerged from the cracked factory floor, grew, and spread around.
Sofia noted everything. "You are all different. But you are all special."
As the night progressed, the bond between them grew stronger. Ahmed made Lin a small sand sculpture; Lin sang him a song. Zhang Wei made Wang Fang a bed out of earth; for the first time, Wang Fang slept peacefully. Chen Jie and Li Mei combined energy and plants to create a small light show.
Sofia's heart warmed as she watched them. Maybe they really could win. Together, anything was possible.
But just then, a message came to her phone. Sender: unknown number. She opened the message:
"Such a sweet family portrait, Sofia. But I would have expected an invitation."
Sofia's face turned pale. It was Anton.
She quickly replied: "Where are you?"
The answer came: "Very close."
Sofia looked around in panic. The factory door was open. Outside, in the moonlight, a silhouette appeared.
Anton slowly entered. Beside him were dozens of armed men.
"Hello, children," Anton said, smiling. "I'm Anton. And I'm here to recruit you."
Ahmed immediately readied his sand. Lin raised her voice. Zhang Wei summoned the earth. Wang Fang stepped back in fear. Chen Jie gathered energy. Li Mei grew her plants.
Sofia stood before Anton. "You have no business here, Anton."
Anton laughed. "On the contrary, I do. These six have exactly the potential I'm looking for. If they join me, they'll be rich. If they refuse..."
The guns were aimed.
Ahmed stepped forward. "We're not with you, Anton. We're on the side of good."
Anton raised his eyebrows. "Good? Good loses, kid. That's how history has always been written."
Lin raised her voice: "This time will be different."
Anton raised his hands, using his micro-telekinesis to lift Lin into the air. "Different? We'll see."
Just then, Sofia threw her device into the air. The device emitted a blinding flash of light, temporarily blinding everyone. "Run!" she shouted.
The six began to flee. But Anton's men were after them. A chase began inside the factory.
Ahmed created a wall of sand, stopping the men. Lin's scream toppled shelves. Zhang Wei split the earth, creating a trench for them to jump into. Wang Fang used her telekinesis to open doors. Chen Jie stunned men with energy blasts. Li Mei bound them with plants.
Finally, they escaped through the factory's back door. But Anton was already there.
"Where do you think you're going?" he said, smiling.
Sofia clenched her teeth. "Get lost, Anton."
Anton approached her. "Sofia, Sofia... I would have liked to work with you. But you always choose the hard way."
Just as he was about to raise his hand, the sound of a helicopter was heard. A helicopter appeared in the sky, shining a spotlight down on them.
"Sofia!" a voice shouted. "Grab the rope!"
It was Mert.
Sofia shouted with joy. She grabbed the rope and called to her friends: "Hold on!"
The six held onto the rope. The helicopter began to ascend. Anton shouted after them in anger: "You can't escape! I'll find you all!"
But the helicopter had already risen. Anton and his men shrank below, then disappeared.
Inside the helicopter, Mert hugged Sofia. "Are you okay?"
Sofia was breathless. "I'm fine. But Anton... he was so close."
Mert nodded. "I know. We have to be more careful now."
The six Triggered individuals looked at each other. They had escaped. But Anton's threat still hung over them.
Ahmed took Lin's hand. "We escaped together."
Lin smiled. "We'll fight together."
Wang Fang smiled for the first time. "Our family is growing."
As the helicopter moved through the darkness of the night, Sofia turned to Mert. "Anton found us. We need to be more careful now."
Mert nodded. "Yes. But for now, we're safe."
But just then, the pilot shouted: "We have a problem! The engine died!"
The helicopter began to shake. The lights went out. Everyone panicked, holding onto each other.
Mert looked down. They were over a dark forest. "What happened?"
The pilot fiddled with the controls. "I don't know! It's as if someone... stopped the engine!"
And the helicopter began to fall rapidly.
Everyone screamed. Mert held Sofia tight. Ahmed grabbed Lin. Zhang Wei tried to protect Wang Fang. Chen Jie and Li Mei clung to each other.
The darkness swallowed them.
