A confused Evie looked at the box, then asked, "A gift? From whom?"
Mr. Charles explained, "The gift is from Charlotte. I'm not entirely sure why she sent it, but I imagine it's because you've become quite good friends. You should check inside; her assistant delivered it to my office this morning and mentioned there was a note. Perhaps once you read it, the purpose of the gift will become clear."
"Okay, thanks," Evie replied. She felt grateful for his thoughtful explanation and watched as he finally headed out of the room.
Once the door clicked shut, Evie walked over to the table and began to open the box. Just as Mr. Charles had mentioned, a small, elegant note was tucked inside.
