"Erm..." Nathan hesitated, clearly struggling to explain the ridiculous situation that had stalled his progress.
Evie waited, but when the silence stretched too long, she spoke up. "I'm on a very tight schedule right now, Nathan. Just tell me—what's the bad news?"
"You aren't going to believe me when I tell you, Boss," he replied. His voice sounded strained, as if he were both frustrated and embarrassed.
Realizing that being harsh wouldn't get the answer any faster, Evie softened her tone. She didn't want him to feel pressured, just honest.
"Just tell me, Nathan. I promise I won't be angry," she said gently, leaning against the window frame. "Is the location somewhere we can't reach?"
Nathan let out a long, heavy sigh. "We already found it, boss. I tracked the IP address, and it's registered to a device currently located at a shopping mall on the outskirts of the city. But the bad news is... my laptop is damaged."
Evie blinked, totally taken aback.
