Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The next morning Kaito woke up with a strange mixture of excitement and determination.

The realization from the previous night had not faded. If anything, it had only become stronger after a full night of sleep. The world he was living in was not some peaceful fantasy where everything would magically work out. It was a world filled with heroes, villains, superpowers, and dangers that he barely understood.

Which meant he needed to start learning.

Immediately.

The moment he finished washing up and changing into his small clothes, he began observing everything around him with a new kind of attention. Before, he had simply been enjoying life like a normal child rediscovering the world. Now every little detail felt like a piece of information that might help him understand where exactly he stood.

The Amamiya household itself became his first subject of study.

It was a traditional Japanese house, but much larger than any normal home he had seen in his previous life. The structure had a mixture of classic architecture and modern conveniences, polished wooden corridors connecting wide tatami rooms, sliding shoji doors letting sunlight spill gently into the house. There were decorative alcoves displaying calligraphy and art pieces, a large garden that stretched across the back of the house, and even a small koi pond that he had discovered while exploring a few days earlier.

The house was quiet.

Too quiet for something this large.

Only three people lived here, himself and his parents, yet the building could easily house eight or ten families if necessary.

That fact alone confirmed what he had already suspected.

The Amamiya family was wealthy.

Not outrageously rich like the people who owned skyscrapers or private islands, but definitely well off enough to live comfortably. The neighborhood itself reflected that status. The houses nearby were all large and separated by stretches of greenery and carefully maintained gardens. The streets were calm, almost peaceful.

It was the kind of place where people valued privacy.

Kaito made a mental note of it while walking toward the dining room where breakfast was already being prepared.

'Wealth means opportunity,' he thought quietly. 'But it also means expectations.'

His thoughts paused as the smell of food reached his nose.

His stomach responded immediately.

Despite the serious train of thoughts running through his mind, his three year old body still had priorities.

Breakfast.

When he entered the dining room he found his mother already placing dishes on the low wooden table. Akari Amamiya moved gracefully across the room, setting down bowls of rice, grilled fish, miso soup, and a small plate of pickled vegetables.

The sight alone made Kaito pause.

Even after several days of living here, the warmth of these moments still felt surreal to him.

In his previous life meals had often been quiet affairs in sterile hospital rooms or small apartments filled with medical equipment.

This was different.

Warm.

Alive.

Akari noticed him standing in the doorway and smiled gently.

"Good morning, Kaito."

"Good morning, Mom," he replied, walking over with small careful steps.

She reached down and ruffled his hair affectionately before sitting beside him.

Moments later the sliding door opened again and Daigo Amamiya stepped inside.

Kaito's father carried himself with an easy confidence that filled the room without being overwhelming. He was tall, broad shouldered, with short dark hair that looked slightly messy as if he had just run his hands through it.

"Morning, everyone," Daigo said while stretching his arms slightly.

"Good morning," Akari replied.

Kaito watched his father carefully while the three of them settled around the table.

This was the perfect opportunity.

He had been thinking about it since the previous night.

If he wanted to understand this world, the best place to start was right in front of him.

His family.

The conversation remained normal for the first few minutes while they began eating. The quiet clinking of chopsticks and bowls filled the room.

Kaito waited patiently.

Then he looked up at his father.

"Dad?"

Daigo glanced down with a curious smile.

"Yeah, Kaito?"

Kaito tilted his head slightly, trying to look like a curious child rather than someone conducting an investigation.

"What do you do for work?"

The question seemed simple enough.

But the reaction he received was not something he had expected.

Daigo paused mid bite.

Akari looked up from her bowl.

For a brief moment there was silence at the table.

Then Daigo chuckled softly.

"Huh. That's a good question."

He set his chopsticks down and leaned back slightly.

"Well, I guess you're old enough to hear about it."

Kaito felt a small sense of anticipation rise in his chest.

Whatever the answer was, it would probably reveal something important.

Then Daigo spoke.

"I'm a pro hero."

The words landed like a thunderclap inside Kaito's mind.

For a brief second his brain stopped working entirely.

'...What?'

He blinked.

Once.

Twice.

His chopsticks slipped slightly in his fingers.

'A pro hero?'

His father continued casually, apparently unaware of the mental explosion happening across the table.

"My hero name is Helios Dynamo."

Kaito's brain exploded a second time.

'Helios Dynamo?!'

He stared at his father with wide eyes.

'Wait wait wait wait...'

A thousand thoughts rushed through his mind at once.

'My dad is a pro hero?'

'Helios Dynamo?'

'Why don't I remember that name?'

Daigo seemed amused by his son's stunned expression.

"You look surprised."

Kaito forced himself to respond.

"You... fight villains?"

Daigo grinned.

"That's part of the job."

Akari sighed softly beside them.

"Daigo, he's three."

"Yeah, but he's curious," Daigo replied with a shrug.

Then he turned back to Kaito.

"My quirk is called Solar Capacitor."

The moment Kaito heard those words something clicked instantly inside his mind.

'Power from the sun...'

An image appeared immediately.

A certain caped alien standing proudly under a yellow sun.

'Superman.'

Kaito's brain started running calculations rapidly.

Solar energy absorption.

Energy release.

Physical enhancement.

His father's voice continued explaining.

"My body works like a kind of biological solar battery. I absorb solar radiation and convert it into usable energy."

He lifted one hand slightly while describing it.

"I can release that energy in a few different ways."

Kaito listened carefully.

"One way is thermal blasts from my hands. Basically focused heat beams."

Images of blazing energy shots flashed across Kaito's mind.

"I can also produce electrical output. Sometimes I use it to power machinery, other times I overload equipment during villain arrests."

Daigo continued speaking with casual ease.

"I can also emit intense radiant light. Bright enough to light up large areas during rescue operations."

Kaito stared.

His father wasn't done.

"And finally, I can channel the energy through my muscles for short bursts of physical reinforcement."

The explanation ended.

Silence filled the table.

Inside Kaito's head a completely different conversation was happening.

'That is literally a toned down version of Superman.'

His thoughts ran rapidly.

'Energy absorption from the sun, energy projection, enhanced strength, light emission...'

'How is this not overpowered?'

Then another realization struck him.

'Wait.'

His eyes narrowed slightly as his brain searched through memories of the anime.

'If my dad has a quirk like that...'

'Why don't I remember him being in the top hero rankings?'

In the world of My Hero Academia, a quirk like that should easily place someone among the top ten pro heroes.

Maybe even higher.

Yet the name Daigo Amamiya did not ring any bells.

Neither did Helios Dynamo.

His confusion must have shown on his face because Daigo chuckled.

"I can tell you're thinking really hard."

Kaito tilted his head again.

"But... that sounds really strong."

Daigo laughed.

"It does sound strong, doesn't it?"

Then he leaned forward slightly.

"But like most quirks, it has limitations."

Kaito immediately paid closer attention.

Limitations.

Important information.

"My body can only store a certain amount of solar energy," Daigo explained. "Once I reach that limit, I can't absorb any more until I use some of it."

He continued calmly.

"And when I release all the stored energy, I become extremely weak for a while."

Kaito blinked.

That changed things.

Daigo continued.

"If I run out of energy at night, I basically become similar to a quirkless human."

Another weakness.

"And releasing too much energy at once can damage my own body," Daigo added. "Burns, extreme exhaustion, sometimes even muscle damage if I push too far."

Kaito's mind recalculated everything he had heard.

'Energy cap.'

'Cooldown period.'

'Self damage risk.'

'Dependence on sunlight.'

Suddenly the quirk made much more sense.

Strong.

But not invincible.

Akari finally spoke up with a slightly annoyed tone.

"Daigo, why are you explaining combat limitations to a three year old at the breakfast table?"

Daigo shrugged with an easy grin.

"He's curious."

"He is three."

"So?"

Akari sighed.

Then Daigo added something that instantly shifted the mood.

"Besides, you're just jealous you can't brag about your quirk too."

The moment those words left his mouth Kaito froze again.

'Wait.'

His head turned slowly toward his mother.

'Mom has a quirk too?'

Akari rolled her eyes slightly but there was a hint of amusement on her face.

"My quirk isn't anything impressive."

Kaito leaned forward slightly.

"What is it?"

Akari hesitated for a moment before answering.

"It's called Featherweight."

Kaito listened carefully.

"It's an emitter type quirk," she explained. "It lets me slightly reduce the gravitational pull acting on my own body."

His brain immediately started analyzing.

Gravity manipulation.

But she continued before he could get too excited.

"It's very weak though," she said. "It doesn't allow real flight or anything like that."

She lifted her hand slightly as if demonstrating.

"When I activate it, my body becomes around ten to fifteen percent lighter than normal."

Kaito blinked.

That was... small.

But Akari continued describing how it actually worked in daily life.

"I can jump a little higher than most people. When I fall from small heights, I fall slightly slower."

She smiled gently.

"Carrying heavy objects feels easier because my body weighs less."

Then she added another example.

"If I hop off a chair or a step, it sometimes looks like I'm floating for a moment before landing."

Kaito's eyes widened slightly.

A memory surfaced instantly.

'I've seen that...'

He remembered noticing how light and graceful his mother seemed while moving around the house.

At the time he had assumed she was simply athletic or naturally graceful.

Now everything made sense.

To most people it probably just looked like elegance.

But it was actually her quirk.

Before Kaito could respond, Daigo suddenly added something with a mischievous grin.

"And that's how she cheats on the weighing scale."

Silence.

Akari slowly turned her head toward him.

Her smile remained.

But it was not a real smile.

Kaito felt a sudden chill run down his spine.

Daigo noticed it too.

Instant regret flashed across his face.

"Ah."

He stood up quickly.

"I just remembered something important I need to do."

Akari's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Daigo."

"I'm late for work!"

Without waiting another second he hurried toward the door.

Akari stood up calmly.

"Kaito," she said sweetly.

"Yes, Mom?"

"I'll be right back."

She gave him a smile.

A smile that definitely was not a smile.

Then she walked after her husband.

The sliding door closed behind them.

Silence returned to the dining room.

Kaito slowly lowered his chopsticks.

Somewhere in the distance he thought he heard his father apologizing very quickly.

He clasped his small hands together.

"...Good luck, Dad."

Then he leaned back slightly in his seat.

For the first time since breakfast started, the room was quiet again.

But his mind was anything but quiet.

His father was a pro hero.

Helios Dynamo.

With a quirk that resembled a controlled solar battery.

His mother had a minor gravity manipulation ability.

Featherweight.

And suddenly Kaito realized something that made his heart beat slightly faster.

'If both of my parents have quirks...'

Then genetically speaking there was a very strong possibility that he would have one too.

He stared at the table thoughtfully.

The world of heroes had suddenly become a lot more personal.

And he still had many questions left to answer.
