The pediatric quirk diagnostics wing of the hospital was quieter than the rest of the building.
Not silent, hospitals were never truly silent. but calmer.
The usual distant sounds still existed: rolling carts, faint intercom announcements, the soft beeping of medical equipment somewhere beyond the walls. Yet compared to the busy emergency floors below, this section felt almost peaceful.
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows that lined the hallway, filling the space with a warm glow. It reflected softly off the polished white floors and pale blue walls that had been decorated with simple murals meant to comfort young patients.
Cartoon animals.
Bright clouds.
Smiling suns.
Kaito sat on the examination bed inside one of the consultation rooms, his small legs dangling slightly above the floor.
The events of the morning still felt surreal.
Floating.
Actually floating.
The memory replayed in his head over and over again.
The look on his mother's face.
His father dropping the newspaper.
And then the hurried decision to immediately schedule a visit with a specialist.
Which was how the three of them had ended up here.
Kaito glanced around the room quietly.
The hospital office itself was fairly spacious. A long desk stood near the far wall, covered with a computer monitor, stacks of files, and several medical instruments. A model of a human skeleton stood in one corner beside a tall cabinet filled with diagnostic equipment.
The faint scent of antiseptic lingered in the air.
It was not an unpleasant smell.
But it carried memories.
Unwelcome ones.
For a brief moment, Kaito's chest tightened.
Hospitals.
White rooms.
Medical machines.
Weakness.
His mind drifted back to his previous life without permission.
Kaito blinked slowly and forced the memory away.
This was different.
This life was different.
He flexed his fingers slightly.
Strong.
Healthy.
Alive.
He reminded himself of that fact as he sat there, waiting.
Across the room, Daigo and Akira sat side by side in two chairs positioned near the doctor's desk.
Both of them looked tense.
Not panicked.
But definitely anxious.
Akira had her hands folded tightly together in her lap. She kept glancing toward Kaito every few seconds, her expression a mix of curiosity and concern.
Daigo leaned back slightly in his chair, arms crossed, but the faint crease between his brows betrayed his own nervous anticipation.
Quirk awakenings were common in this world.
But every parent still worried about the same things.
What kind of quirk would their child have?
Would it be safe?
Would it cause complications?
The door to the consultation room opened with a soft click.
A middle-aged doctor stepped inside, holding a tablet filled with diagnostic data.
He wore a simple white coat with a hospital ID badge clipped to the pocket.
His name read:
Dr. Kenji Morita.
He closed the door behind him and smiled politely.
"Thank you for waiting."
Daigo straightened slightly in his chair.
Akira leaned forward just a little.
Kaito remained seated on the examination bed, quietly watching.
The doctor glanced down at the tablet for a moment before speaking.
"Well… the results are quite clear."
He looked up again.
Then he said calmly,
"Your son has awakened his quirk."
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then Akira let out a breath she had clearly been holding.
Daigo's shoulders relaxed.
Both parents looked at Kaito.
And a small smile slowly appeared on each of their faces.
Akira covered her mouth slightly as emotion flickered across her expression.
"Our son… has a quirk."
Daigo chuckled quietly.
"Of course he does."
Kaito simply tilted his head slightly.
The doctor continued.
"There's also something else we checked during the scan."
He gestured toward the digital display on his tablet.
"The toe bone test."
Akira nodded quickly.
"Yes, we heard about that. Something about an extra joint?"
Dr. Morita smiled.
"Correct."
He turned the tablet so they could see the X-ray image.
The faint outline of a small foot appeared on the screen.
"Historically, individuals without quirks possess an additional joint in their pinky toe. It's a small evolutionary trait that has gradually disappeared as the human body adapted to quirk development over generations."
He tapped the image lightly.
"Kaito does not have that extra joint."
Akira's smile widened instantly.
Daigo leaned forward slightly.
"So he definitely has a quirk."
"Yes," the doctor replied.
"Without a doubt."
Akira glanced toward Kaito with bright eyes.
"Our son is going to be amazing."
Daigo laughed softly.
"I'd expect nothing less."
Kaito scratched his cheek slightly.
He appreciated their enthusiasm.
But he was more interested in the important part.
What kind of quirk?
The doctor seemed to anticipate that question.
He adjusted his glasses slightly and continued.
"Now… this is where things become particularly interesting."
His tone changed.
Not worried.
Not alarmed.
But intrigued.
Very intrigued.
He looked directly at Kaito.
Then back at the parents.
"Your son appears to possess a hybrid quirk."
Daigo raised an eyebrow.
"Hybrid?"
Akira blinked.
"What does that mean exactly?"
Dr. Morita nodded.
"It means his quirk exhibits characteristics of two different quirk classifications."
He turned the tablet again and pulled up another set of data.
"The primary type appears to be a Transformation quirk."
He paused briefly.
"With a secondary Emitter component."
Silence filled the room for a moment.
Then Daigo slowly leaned back again.
"A mix of both our quirks…"
The doctor nodded.
"That is the most likely explanation."
He turned slightly toward Kaito again.
"Transformation quirks alter the user's body into a different functional state."
He tapped the screen again.
"Based on the biological scans we just performed… Kaito's body appears to shift into a solar-charged condition."
Daigo's eyes widened slightly.
Akira tilted her head.
"Solar… charged?"
The doctor nodded.
"Yes."
He gestured toward the window where sunlight streamed into the room.
"As we speak, his body is actively absorbing solar radiation."
Kaito blinked.
'Wait…'
Dr. Morita continued.
"The process is subtle at the moment. His body temperature and cellular energy levels are rising gradually in response to sunlight exposure."
He studied the data again.
"In simple terms… the sunlight is strengthening his body."
Akira looked stunned.
Daigo slowly let out a quiet whistle.
"Huh."
He glanced toward his son.
"So he inherited my solar absorption ability."
"Partially," the doctor replied.
"But that is not the entire story."
He swiped across the tablet again, bringing up another chart.
"Your son's body appears capable of processing only a limited amount of solar energy at once."
Daigo frowned slightly.
"A storage limit?"
"Exactly."
The doctor nodded approvingly.
"Any excess energy is being stored internally rather than immediately used."
Akira looked confused.
"What does that mean?"
Dr. Morita turned toward her.
"It means that while his body transforms into a strengthened solar state, he also accumulates surplus energy."
He paused briefly.
"Which brings us to the secondary classification."
He tapped the screen again.
"Emitter."
Daigo leaned forward.
"So he can release it."
"Most likely."
The doctor nodded.
"Emitter quirks involve releasing energy or manipulating forces outside the body."
He gestured toward Daigo.
"Much like your own quirk."
Daigo rubbed the back of his neck.
"So basically… he charges up from sunlight…"
"And then potentially releases that energy externally," the doctor finished.
Akira stared at the screen for a moment.
"That sounds…"
She struggled to find the word.
"Powerful."
Dr. Morita chuckled softly.
"Potentially, yes."
He glanced toward Kaito again.
"In fact, I must admit…"
His eyes sparkled with academic fascination.
"This is a very rare quirk structure."
He leaned slightly closer to examine Kaito more carefully.
Almost like a scientist observing a particularly interesting specimen.
"The combination of transformation-based biological enhancement and stored emitter output could create many possible applications."
He tapped the tablet again.
"However, the true extent of his emitter abilities cannot be determined yet."
Daigo frowned slightly.
"Why not?"
"Because the output hasn't manifested yet."
The doctor shrugged lightly.
"We would need to observe him releasing that stored energy in order to properly measure it."
Akira looked between the doctor and her son.
"So… we don't really know what he can do yet."
"Not fully," the doctor replied.
"But based on what we see so far…"
He smiled slightly.
"Your son has a very promising quirk."
Daigo leaned back in his chair again.
A slow grin spread across his face.
"Well… that explains the floating this morning."
Akira laughed softly.
"I suppose it does."
The doctor nodded thoughtfully.
"It is possible the transformation aspect is affecting his gravitational interaction slightly."
Kaito blinked.
'...Gravitational interaction?'
The doctor continued speaking calmly.
"Solar energy reinforcement may be temporarily altering the density of his body."
Akira raised an eyebrow.
"Meaning…?"
"He becomes lighter."
Akira stared at Kaito.
Then she burst out laughing.
Daigo laughed too.
Akira wiped a tear from her eye.
"Our son literally floats."
Kaito sat there quietly.
Listening.
Processing.
Thinking.
Because inside his mind…
The gears had started turning.
Fast.
Very fast.
Solar absorption.
Energy storage.
Emitter release.
Body enhancement.
Floating.
All those pieces…
All those possibilities…
A faint bead of sweat appeared on his forehead.
Because the potential combinations forming inside his mind were… absurd.
Ridiculous.
Possibly terrifying.
'This could become extremely broken…'
Or extremely dangerous.
Or both.
His life…
Had just become far more complicated.
But he kept his expression calm.
The appointment ended soon after.
The doctor scheduled several follow-up tests for the coming months, mostly to monitor Kaito's development as his quirk stabilized.
After a few final discussions, the Amamiya family left the hospital.
Outside, the late afternoon sun hung warm and bright above the city.
Their car waited near the curb.
The family driver, Tanaka, stood beside it and opened the door politely as they approached.
"Welcome back, sir."
Daigo nodded casually.
"Thanks, Tanaka."
Akira and Kaito climbed into the back seat.
Daigo took the passenger seat beside the driver.
The car pulled smoothly into traffic.
For the first few minutes, the interior filled with excited conversation.
Akira was practically glowing.
"I can't believe it…"
She reached over and gently ruffled Kaito's hair.
"A solar hybrid quirk."
Daigo chuckled.
"Kid hit the genetic jackpot."
Akira laughed again.
"I mean really, Daigo… that doctor looked like he wanted to write a research paper about him."
Daigo grinned.
"Wouldn't blame him."
Outside the window, the city passed by in a steady rhythm.
Tall buildings.
Crowded sidewalks.
Colorful billboards advertising hero agencies and new products.
The distant silhouette of a hero patrol crossing between rooftops.
The world of heroes moved constantly around them.
Inside the car, Akira kept talking excitedly.
"We should start thinking about how to support his training."
Daigo nodded.
"Yeah."
"And maybe get him enrolled in a good preschool program."
"Sure."
"And we should definitely keep monitoring his health."
"Obviously."
Halfway through her enthusiastic planning, Akira suddenly paused.
She turned slightly.
Kaito had been very quiet.
Too quiet.
He sat beside her, staring out the window.
Lost in thought.
Akira tilted her head slightly.
"Kaito?"
He blinked.
Then looked at her.
"What are you thinking about?"
Her voice was gentle.
Curious.
Kaito hesitated for a moment.
Then he answered honestly.
"The changes."
Akira's expression softened.
Without another word, she pulled him gently into a hug.
Her arms wrapped around his small shoulders.
Warm.
Protective.
Comforting.
She didn't say anything.
But the message was clear.
Everything will be okay.
Kaito slowly returned the hug.
For a moment, the worries inside his mind quieted slightly.
Outside the car window, sunlight continued streaming across the city.
And somewhere deep within Kaito's body…
Something was beginning to awaken.
AN: Yes, I have caped his powers for the time being. Don't want him to be too OP in the beginning part of the story.
Also don't say I didn't warn you but I am going to write a character into this and build them up only to kill them off at some point. Those who know.... Will know why. But, I am not gonna say who that is going to be..... Maybe it's someone who has already made an appearance or someone yet to come.....😎
